At the end of 2022, a transfer of the technologies developed by the partners in the EU project DrapeBot to one of the robotic cells at the Center for Lightweight Production Technology in Augsburg took place. The focus was on the cooperative transport of soft materials by a human and a robot. The video shows first demonstration after successful integration.
During the collaborative transport of large cut-pieces of soft CFRP material, human leads the robot by controlling and moving the material edge he is holding. The camera analyzes the deformation of the material and the system corrects the trajectory of the robot based on the material deformation. This adjustment prevents the material to get damaged and allows responsive control of robot’s movement. The technology was developed by STIIMA-CNR in Milan, Italy.
The technologies developed in DrapeBot will support highly skilled human workers using common industrial robots in a responsive and secure environment, taking over some of the tedious and repetitive work. Center for Lightweight Production Technology in Augsburg is providing and developing a use case for the production of complex CFRP components for the aerospace sector.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement No 101006732 and runs until end of 2024.
