Installing air bags on this kind of car doesn't feel right. Maybe if it was an OEM system.... But with the chrome tank and compressor inside the car feels cringe.

My MK7R is on AirLift 3P. Everything is hidden in the spare tire well. This is my first car on air and it’s better than any coilover car I’ve ever had. My R has DCC and it’s better than that. Like rails through corners and I can get it on a lift easy. I’m not sure I could go back.

Definitely only a German thing. Shitty thing is if the warning light comes on in the dash, most likely you’ll have to replace the sensors too.

Commenting mostly for the algorithm since this series deserves a million views -- not just for the swap and mods, but for your showing us the thought process of solving problems such as welding together a radiator mount, splicing together an exhaust, wheel spacing, sifting through a hojillion parts catalog to find a shifter that works, etc, etc. Truly epic work!

Air ride seems to be counter to the overall ethos of an RS3 swapped Golf R imo, especially a setup that low to start and that only goes lower from there. Would much rather have seen this on some nicely dialed in coils and I suspect Charles does too lol. Excited to see the car at wookies and hear a more complete verdict overall lol

I stopped modding my gti after doing an IS38 with e48 map, new springs, bilsteins, rsb, poly bushings, bigger intercooler and uprated clutch. I was glad to be done. Watching Charles makes me want to start again. Take all my money

I think im in agreement with charles. Coilovers and would be done in a short time. No running lines, no buzzing compressor, no trunk space compromised. Im not an airride hater, those cars look cool and all and the adjustable aspect is cool too but i think this choice is outside charles usual MO

Agree. I’ve done coilovers and I’ve done air suspension. Air suspension installation is miserable.

I know the frustrations of major engine mods and air bag installation. It blows my mind you are doing them AT THE SAME TIME! I was LOL at all Charles’ airbag comments in this video!

I appreciate you giving the air ride a chance. I think they can be ran tastefully without slamming the car to the ground. With your setup, it seems like the highest setting is quite a bit lower than I'd be comfortable with. I have bags that I've been holding on to for well over two years now and in that time I also purchased and installed two sets of BC Racing coilovers (newest set is DS Series). I still don't know if I'll ever run the bags on my car, but I appreciate your video giving me a clearer picture of the process. Thanks for this series!

I don't care too much about the ride height, but I'm just really curious if a Golf on air bags can handle like a normal Golf R on steel suspension or something a bit stiffer like a Mk7 GTI Clubsport S or so on? Conventional steel springs and steel rollbars do ofter a certainly predictability. You don't tend to see air suspension as OEM on sport compacts (not so much even on the A45s, C63s, M2s & M3s? only on the E63s and M5s and above I think?), you don't even tend to see hydraulic suspension on sport compacts anymore -- not since the days of the MG TF and Citroen BX 16-valve.

Hell ya! I just did a very similar setup on my Dakota R/T. Best of both worlds, low when you want it for looks, and performance and ride quality for the rest of the time. Good Choices and THank you for bringing in JohnLudwick. His work is impeccable.

I agree with Charles 100%. A good set of coil overs is so much more reliable and simpler to install. I don’t understand why people want to bag your car and lay it out like a spatchcock Turkey. Bottom line to each his or her own.

I bagged (bagriders kit) my mk1 225Q TT back in 2016. Always had coilovers on all my mk3 gtis/jettas/cabrios. I worked on the bag install after work each night for 5 days as I had never done it before (it was my project/weekend car) and to be honest - I loved it. It rode great. Wasn’t bouncy, and felt like a mid range set of B&Gs. And I never worried about speed bumps/horribly crowned roads and my oil pan ever again lol This video brought back a lot of memories of fumbling through a bag install with no prior experience. Great job on the whole build!

Yeah AirRide is controversial, but I dont understand why it has to be THAT low in the highest setting when Charles is clearly interested in driveability. These little bags are too low and have not enough travel in my opinion. Also the sporty RS3 engine, big- brakes and 4WD setup clash wioth a floaty air suspension. Atleats it can be all turned back to stock, I predict that a good set of coilovers is going to replace the air setup soon :)

this is basically a distillation of years of experience showcased because you can - not for the faint of heart or basically anybody other than foreign auto pros or they will find out what true sadness really is but it seems to have worked out for you and it is pretty interesting if nor recommended

I love this series! I owned a 2010 TTRS manual here in the UK and the engine was one of my favourites for sure. I loved having it with a manual box, even if the box wasn’t perfect. Incredible sound, incredible power and torque. Very excited to see the finale, but hope that you also make a few videos after it’s done to see how it’s going and how you like it 😊

Installing the pipe tape backwards does indeed leads to bunching and leaking. This is a big nono in oil and gas but I guees in automotive it doesn't matter, lol.

I love Billstien on my MKIV but am curious to see how you adapt to this. I think we were getting close to Scirocco in Florida swap Charles as this suspension install went on.

Seeing Humble keep a happy, humorous attitude throughout this Frankenwagen build has been a treat. Old school steel springs and shocks would have been my choice. The upcoming body fender mods make me cringy, if you like sausage, don't watch the process to make it!

15+ years ago the rear sway bar was #1 on my list. Really made my mk4 337 fool-proof. If I had too much understeer, it just rotated more and got more grip.

Love this build, but not a fan of the air suspension. Honestly, I’m not even a huge fan of air suspension even in OEM fitment. Especially in sporty cars. Just doesn’t have that linear feel. Also, changing your height changes your spring rate. But it’s your car and I hope you love it.
