Top 4 ways to wear and tie a shemagh , The Pirate, The Bedouin, The Bandit and The Buff.
How to use a shemagh, also known as tactical scarf or
The keffiyeh or kufiya (Arabic: كُوفِيَّة‎ kūfiyyah, meaning "from the city of Kufa"[citation needed] (الْكُوفَة); plural كُوفِيَّات kūfiyyāt), also known as a ghutrah (غُترَة), shemagh (شُمَاغ šumāġ), ḥaṭṭah (حَطَّة), mashadah (مَشَدَة), chafiye, dastmal yazdi (Kurdish: دستمال یزدی‎) or cemedanî (Kurdish: جه مه داني‎), is a traditional Arab headdress, or what is sometimes called a habit, worn in the Middle East with origins from the Fertile Crescent (Iraq, the Levant, and Egypt)[citation needed] fashioned from a square scarf, usually made of cotton.[1] It is commonly found in arid regions as it provides protection from sunburn, dust and sand. Toward the end of the 1980s, the keffiyeh became a fashion accessory in the United States and, during the 2000s, it became very popular among teenagers in Tokyo, Japan, where it is often worn with camouflage-style clothing.[2]

@@MetalGopnikTV I mean it we’re strictly talking about day to day uses, then it’s subjective, but the Bedouin style is far better than all the others that are listed in here because of its practicality and how well it protects you while living in a desert, there’s a reason as to why my people prefer it over the normal day to day styles (the ones with the iqal and the taqiyya, basically what you see when you look up “Arab business man)

I have several. I've also used them for about 5 to 6 years now. My wife likes to stay up late and have the lamp on. I wear one every night like the incognito look you did. Just laying over the top of my head but I'll pull the top down to cover my eyes to shield me from the light she has on. Even if she goes to bad early or b4 me I'm still so use to wearing it I still use it. They have become like a safety blanket to me or like a child's woobbie or somthing. Lol . gotta have mine with me or close by at all times.

Been wanting something like this since for weeks now, but didn't know what scarves like this were called. Finally found "shemags" tonight and have learned a lot. Was bummed that this link was for an item that doesn't ship to the USA, but then kept browsing & found the same company has items that *do* ship here. SO - this was a very helpful vid for demonstrating this can be used how I want AND for the link to a recommended brand. Big thanks!!

I'm wearing my Moroccan tagelmust- basically the same thing, just tuareg- slightly longer and narrower- like 6 or 7 feet by 2 feet- around Los Angeles. It's a lot of fun having an excuse to wear turbans around town. They are definitely the most stylish of covid 19 facemask solutions. People really like it.

I love my Shamog I usually wear it every day of the year since I got it . It and trekking poles I always thought was strange until I started using them out backpacking now I love them and can't understand why others don't use them as well .
@cbass0684
@cbass0684 Жыл бұрын
Treking poles are useless for anything other than river crossings, and even then you can just pick up a branch to measure depth. You're better off without the (cumbersome to pack/store) pole, keeping both hands free for balance and obstacle clearing. Spoken as a very experienced outdoorsman and military veteran. Shemaghs are only useful in a windy desert environment to reduce sand in eyes and face. And even then it's a tradeoff with elevated body temperature because you're losing heat ventilation from the top of your head which will heat and dehydrate you faster, reducing your endurance.

Picked up as a souvenir when I was in the MFO in the Sinai back in 87/88. Until the first sandstorm hit. Then it was real handy to get from the barracks to the office and to chow. The last few years until I retired I used one at work around the neck in the winter when our heat was less than optimal. By using it around the neck stayed warm and could be in shirt sleeves comfortably. Guess I'll pull em out and use one the next time I go to town. LOL
