This the Big One ! 🎈
The Hummer H2 was produced between 2003 - 2009, so now many of them have over 100K miles on the clock.
Auto transmissions are very complex systems, with many moving parts. Transmission fluid lubricates and prevents overheating, but burnt-out or old contaminated fluid, choked filters, leaky seals, metal fragments and microscopic debris can cause irreversible damage.
We do of course, regularly check the transmission fluid levels, but as you'll see there is a little more to it than just the "level"
Start by watching this video, then by doing the work yourself you can save money in the long run, save your transmission and you'll have the satisfaction of knowing the work has been done properly.
On the subject of "flushing" here's a quote from GM Service Bulletin 04-06-01-029J "It should be noted that analyses of returned parts that have been exposed to these aftermarket 'flushes' show indications of potential damage and shortened durability shortened durability"

Got the new pan on, I used a transmission jack to lower the pan. 4 quarts total came out. Have put in amsoil and could feel an immediate difference.

You may find you don't need the magnet your current pan should have one, the one I bought is stuck to my office desk at the moment.

I took off my passenger side rock bar and steps. It makes it so much easier to get under the truck. I use a mechanics roller too. Really don’t notice its off. I haven’t put back on the transmission protector either.

Another detailed and extremely helpful video. Very much appreciated. Regarding the seal removal, I used a quick and easy homemade tool of a 12"X1/2" threaded male pipe (to screw into the seal), attached to a 1/2" female t-section, with a 4"X1/2" male nipple also on the t-section for tapping down. Why is the oil pan replaced? Is that a nice to have or mandatory during the ATF oil/filter change? Great video!

Thank you for your comment. The choice to change the oil pan depends if you want to add a drain plug. To perform the progressive series of fluid changes it would ease the workload considerably. Sadly it's not possible to drain all the fluid in one visit without special equipment, or should I say it's not easy.

The new GM magnet is much beefier and stronger than old magnetic. Will say made in china, but its the right one.

Nothing excessive, similar YT videos showed similar results, normal for the mileage probably.

next time DONT change that O ring that comes with the filter... just change the filter only.. the O ring doesnt go bad just leave it in there and re use it... and why did you disconnect the battery?? you dont have to do that!!!
@hummerfixes
@hummerfixes 2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment, appreciated. Good points, the O-ring did appear OK, and certainly next time won't be changed. However for my 1st time, given the vehicle's age, mileage, sevice history, oil cost, time and effort required, to be 100% certain the O-Ring is OK and not degraded or damaged seemed worth it. Regarding battery disconnection, this step could be omitted, however it's all about safety, reducing risk from accidental shorts or running the battery low etc and it only takes a minute to do, so again seemed worth it. All viewpoints are important so people can decide how to do a job and do it safely.
