Photographing the Beautiful Hummingbirds of Peru - Episode 1

4 жыл бұрынMy latest search for hummingbirds to photograph took me first to Lima to photograph the Peruvian Sheartail and then to northern Peru to find the endemic Koepke’s Hermit. At the Aconabokh Reserve I found many species of hummingbird including the Black-bellied Thorntail, Gould’s Jewelfront, the Golden-tailed Sapphire and more.
My name is Carole Turek and I am on a quest to photograph every single hummingbird species on the planet! There are over 350 types and I currently have photographed more than 150 of them.

Wow what beautiful colours and beautiful colours on these hummingbirds and flowers some i have never seen before thank you so much for sharing your beautiful videos especially the Peru ones where i have never been to so the flowers and the birds were amazing which i have never seen before thank you so much Carol stay well and stay safe oh and please say hello to that beautiful sweet bird if yours i did hear it on your videos singing and talking away too sweetly thank you Carol

So many gorgeous hummingbirds! The Golden-tailed Sapphire, Gould's Jewelfront, Grey-breasted Sabrewing, to name a few, are stunning and the spotted and speckled hummers are adorable! What a great tip you shared for photographing hummingbirds, your photos are incredibly beautiful!

What amazing photos you got of all those little jewels. I love the last photo of the Koepke's Hermit and the Violet Headed. Of course the photo of the birds wings matching the flowers was amazing. Doping the flowers, wow. I feel like I have just learned a trade secret. Sure made for some awesome photos.

Thank you, Ginger. Flower-doping is quite common. Sometimes it is the only way you can get them to come to flowers when there are a lot of feeders around!

I have tried tripods and monopods. They just get in my way. I need to move that camera fast! Fortunately I now have the 500mm f/5.6 PF lens which is so light it is hard to believe! New technology allowed them to remove a lot of glass.

What best sound too attract hummingbirds

They aren't attracted by sound unless it is a sound the male is making during a mating display. They are attracted by food.
