Deep ocean and abyssal marine life is often thought of as creepy, bizarre, and all around strange-- but what of the creatures that seem akin to psychedelic imagery brought to life? Truth, especially nature, is stranger than fiction. These are just seven such creatures.
A huge shoutout to the kind and talented folks at PHILTECH who gave DSO permission to use their unique Venus Girdle (Cestum veneris) footage! Check out their original upload:

That Venus Girdle was beyond amazing! I hope more study can be applied to it one day.

Honestly, we're gonna find aliens and theyre not gonna be that impressive even if theyre super bizarre. That Venus Girdle is just incredible. The fact its actually a comb jelly doesnt make it any less bizarre. Basically what should look like a glowing bag, looks like a wiggly sheet of bubble-wrap which is both coming and going and does whatever the hell that is lol. Amazing.

The Venus Girdle was amazing, it's impressive how fast and well-coordinated it was for such a simple animal.

Before watching you’re videos I enjoy to think that these are actually aliens they really live in a different world than on land habitants, to think that if we humans never came to technology and engineering we would have never seen or even think that these species existed. We as humans were never meant to see these amazing creatures, it’s why I’m so appreciated. Keep it up bro.

This weekend is a weird weekend for me. I quit my job and the girl I like is moving away from my city and I am sad and I need some quiet video to distract myself and you just uploaded it. Thank you.

It's a strange blessing of our time that we are able to witness these fascinating phenomena that were hidden to people only a few decades ago

I think the fireworks jellyfish and venus girdle take the cake for me in this video, as far as some of the strangest things I've seen yet, like compared to their relatives. I've never known that ctenophores (or comb jellies) could come in ribbon shapes. I mean I guess it makes sense. These things have been evolving since at least the Cambrian period, if not longer. I'm just used to the round ones with those crazy rainbow light shows. The fireworks jellyfish looks like a living koosh ball or something. Absolutely mesmerizing.

It’s insane how we know more about the moon and some of our planets than we do the ocean

Its footage like this that makes me feel like the deep sea is an actual underworld. Like after death we swim through a darkness or maybe have bodies of light, no brain or brainstem to worry or suffer in the traditional sense, as the soul eases on a journey to its next life.

Despite catching these amazing creatures on film, actually seeing them is still almost beyond belief!---I frequently resist pushing the play button, & then when I do, I ask myself why I hesitated!

Ended up subscribing I spend many late nights awake in abject pain and this helps me forget watching all these creatures I would never have known about. I still have my full Jacques Cousteau encyclopedia set I’ve loved the sea my entire life. Kinda weird for a dirt farmer

These creatures are absolutely fascinating. The #3 looks like someone blew a huge bubble gum bubble. I can see why they call it the venus girdle as it quickly spirals upon itself and tightens. Awesome vid.
