Hundreds of skateboarders could be seen as they rolled through Downtown Los Angeles on Friday, which was also "Go Skateboarding Day." Mike Rogers reports.

Been doing it for like 20 years or more. Local area used to have events all day. Nowadays it's just 2 hrs for a small event. Times changed

Buy your kid a skateboard not another video game. These kids aren't all obese like most kids these days and at least they're socializing and gaining life experiences.

Yeah but what if you buy them a skateboard and Tony hawk pro skater because then they will also have a phenomenal taste in music. You will also be definitely hitting up the ER for broken arms and wrists I guarantee it. Video games aren't inherently bad but skating is definitely an incredibly athletic sport.

100% idk how popular skateboarding is now but in the 2000s and 2010s it was hella popular in Cali. I hung-out with really good skateboarders in the Central Valley and we made trips to the Bay and Sac to skate. Amazing times

@@RandomRabbit007it’s still super popular. It has gone down in popularity though because of Skateboarding Big Business, from what I been told. Most riders I know don’t care for it and prefer to use cheap stuff, other than the board and bearing.

@@nannerz1994 I am much better off having broken bones and healed than I would be had I been an obese vegetable addicted to video games. I would much rather my children learn to mitigate risk and overcome hardship in the face of danger than avoid anything that scares them. One day children will have to face the world without their parents, practicing difficult athletic activities like skateboarding makes them much more able to face and overcome the hardships of life. So many adults still live in the make believe reality their parents constructed for them as children to shelter them from reality, it's really sad to see, children are much better off learning to deal with reality rather than being sheltered from it their whole lives. Not to mention skating and other athletic activities are good for their health and longevity, and I want my children to be as healthy and live as long as possible.

Every June 21st is international Go Skateboarding Day. Skateboarders all over the world spend the day going skateboarding. Many will gather for designated skate events at skateparks and many cities will have “Wild in the Streets” skate-a-thons rolling through the city streets on a designated route. It’s a lot of fun and just a day to celebrate the hobby we love.

For the most part skaters aren't looking for trouble. They are normally pretty motivated to develop their skills on the board throughout the day. The most trouble they are making is minor damage to curbs and ledges. But when the weigh that against the amount of tax dollars it would take to have tens of thousands of youth and even adults entertained all year round, outdoors, physically exercising whilst engaged in a sophisticated sport/art form, it's really a no brainer in terms of societal return on investment.

good for them! skateboarders brought al lot of tourism money to LA in the 60s and 70s and kind of made the area a tourist attraction well into the 2000s. skateboarders are misunderstood. glad they stayed safe
