There was a woman who never had a child. One day she said that she does not care if the God gives her a puppy she would bring up it as well. Shortly a piggy came into the world, she named her Red-Piggy and she treated her as a child, and sent her to school as well. One day the neighbour-boy watched Red-Piggy as she was taking off the pig-coat and she changed into a beautiful girl. He proposed her and after the wedding when she took off the pig-coat her mother-in-law burned it so that she could never reconvert.
Made by the Kecskemét Film Studio.
Directed by: Mária Horváth, Marianna Hajdu
Storyteller: Gyula Szabó
Music: Kaláka band
The makers used the decorative art of a certain countryside region at each episode. The trio of folk art, folk music and folk tales are masterfully combined in the episodes, which have unique imagery, sometimes spicy folk humor in the dialogues. Thanks to the natural presentation of the storytellers, and the music of the Kaláka band, the viewer can experience something unique and special.

This story is unique to me since it gives me the vibe that the whole "pink pig" disguise can be considered as a metaphor. Where in the part when the boy saw what she really looked under can be viewed as the boy learning something about the girl and that made him fall for her.

what an unusually sweet one. usually in these 'marry an animal' stories the person doesn't learn to love the animal until AFTER they've been revealed to be another human in disguise, like they've being forced to marry a bear or frog or what ever. here, it only matters that the boy knows the pig is human because otherwise it would be weird that he cared about a pig romantically XD i think that's the joke

There is a lot of symbolism in this tale. From the desperate mother getting what she wanted yet was displeased when she got it because it wasn't what she really wanted, the pig child being kept from being with other children do to her mothers shallow opinions of her looks, the pig being beautiful on the inside, and the boy next door falling in love and marrying the girl he loved in spite of everyone trying to change his mind. Something that I absolutely loved about this story was how, aside from the mother and the teacher, everyone else in the village really tried to give the pig girl a chance to have a normal childhood. The mothers forced the issue of allowing the pig to go to school and the only reason the boy next door saw the pig childs true self was that he was told to look out for her while they were playing with the other children. Sure, his parents still didn't want a pig as a daughter-in-law but that's only because they didn't know the real her the way their son did and, in the end, they still relented and openly endorsed his marriage. It's a really beautiful and meaningful tale.

My opinion is that the pig look and the way she is treated as an outsider by the villagers is a symbol of being born form a married man. It is something you could never keep as a secret in that village. Bastards were always treated as outsiders back in those days, especially in small communities. This is why the neighbour family feels that shame. My interpretation is that with the marriage, a brand new unity is born - she's not a bastard anymore, but "Ms Neighbour Guy" - which makes the "curse" disappear.
@WobblesandBean
@WobblesandBean Жыл бұрын
She wasn't displeased though, she loved the pink pig. She was just afraid what the other villagers would think, which is valid, as I know all too well how horribly you can be treated just for being different.

Beauty is important weather you like it or not. Genetically beautiful women have healthier babies with immunities to sickness and disease. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder because it conveys a woman's genetics and men will always seek out genes that will complements his, calling her beautiful. It's biology and you can't fight biology.

This is the most logically confusing tale comparing to others 😂 The mother doesn't even know it's a girl under the pig skin, and the pig was clever enough to go under disguise from birth to age of a small child. And the boy never had questioned his vision and destined to marry the "girl" he saw only once. What if he was dreaming or was seeing things? And the girl had never thought of ripping off the pig skin because of its inconvenience? And who was the father who have created a pig as a baby?
@goonerOZZ
@goonerOZZ 5 жыл бұрын
I think I can give a simple "logical" explanation, I think the pig facade is the girl in her normal everyday appearance, it's how the mother seen her, an ugly looking child, but she cannot complaint about it because she asked God for her, and therefore she tries to hide her, by not letting her go to school and socialize, until the other parents encourage the mother to let the "pig" do as other kids do. Now you know that there are outfits and accessories that can actually hide someone's appearance to look bad, I think the forest scene just highlights how the boy next door see her maybe let her hair loose, take off her glasses, you know like those rom-com stuff where the ugly girl revealed that she is actually beautiful? Something like that, and now that he is the only one that see her like that UNTILL the marriage where I honestly think he did some cool makeover to reveal how beautiful she was given the right clothes (and maybe make up) That's how I see it at least.

The Boy's interaction with his future wife reminded me of Prince Florian in Disney's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (1937). He met Snow White once, yet the adolescents desired each other nigh immediately. My elder brother played an installment of the "Kingdom Hearts" franchise where Florian got featured. He (the Prince) wondered whether or not his meetup had been real. The Holy Spirit was responsible for the Pig's birth. "Lazy Jancsi" pulled off the same miracle. However, the latter was due to the Fish. Roman Catholicism dominated, so pious folklore, whether drawn from the Bible or hagiography, often gained incorporation.

It’s not a suit, or a disguise. This is her. The transformation was just something she could do to herself sometimes, that the boy just happened to see. It looked like she was stripping off a skin, but in actuality she was shedding off her other body.

From how I understand the story, it is a metaphor of how a parent overprotect their child. In the first scene, the mother wanted a child so badly that when she finally had one, she is very careful not to lose the child. And how to do that? By making people least interested with her child or dislike her child, so no one would dare to take her child away from her. She also taught the child to never venture outside or be away from her mother. If we will look at the bad side/possibility, the mother could have discouraged the child to see her own beauty or talent to lower her esteem which made her grow up shy, hiding her true self and being distant from people. But due to the prodding of the neighbors or the customs/norm of the society (and the mother, not wanting to be accused of being a terrible parent, I guess), she finally allow her "pig child" to socialize and go to school. When the pig child finally gets to go outside, the mother kept on being overprotective by assigning the boy next door to keep watch on her. The set up which did not go to the mother's favor, because the person who keeps watch on her child realizes her true nature (which is beautiful) and fell in love. The feelings resulted to making the boy next door determined to marry the pig child, and since it is the dictation of norm/culture/society, the mother cannot object to that anymore and just allowed the marriage to happen. (Or maybe she knew the man truly loves her child and trusts him?) So the moral lesson is that no matter how much parents try to manipulate, train, or lower the self esteem of their child to shelter or overprotect them, they would still separated/leave their custody through marriage. That's why instead of doing those things, they should let their child shine, explore, love and recognize their true self, enjoy childhood and be happy.

Like other fairy tales, I think this is just an exaggeration. The "pig" maybe was just a nickname for her for having pig like traits, maybe she's fat/obese, or something with her nose, or could be anything really that made the child had the moniker as "the pig".
