Tihany should not be missed out on your Hungary Travels as it is a Charming little Town at Lake Balaton full of rich history and culture! One you'll surely fall in love with!
The Hungarian Countryside offers some cute villages and towns to visit and one of the highlights of those has to be Tihany. A place that is part of Hungary's history for almost a 1000 years, it can be seen from miles away as the famous Tihanyi Bencés Apátság (Benedictine Tihany Abbey) towers over the Peninsula of Lake Balaton. But besides the Abbey, the small town has some charming little streets with cute houses and many artisan shops.
Lake Balaton offers many interesting places to visit. One of our Favorites closeby is the Badacsony region where you can explore some geological formations, hike and most importantly: Enjoy some excellent wine and food. Check out the first video in our 3 part series about the Badacsony Region:
• Hungary Travels: Lake ...
Another Charming Little town in the Hungarian Countryside is Kőszeg. Also full of history and interesting stories:

More About Tihany:
The most common product of Tihany is Levander, the place is famous for it. There is an insane amount of stuff that have Levandar in them. From Beer to Pálinka, from Cosmetic Goods to Decorative items. You'll definately find something you can take as a souvenir. You can even visit a Levander Center where you can learn more about this plant and how it is used in everyday products! (I would not recommend the Levander Pálinka for it's flavour though.... it's an experience)
The town of Tihany has many traditional Hungarian Restaurants (called Csárda, or Fogadó) so if you wish try out some local dishes, you can easily find a place as the town isn't huge it's easy to get around and visit any of the eateries when you are hungry.
The Tihany Peninsula has many hills and forests, you can easily spend a day here hiking around, or when it's the hot summer you can rest on the beaches.
We visited Tihany from the City of Siófok using the Boat services. Similar services run from Balatonfüred and Szántód as well. But you can visit the town also from Budapest by using Public transport. It will be around 2,5 hours to reach Tihany. With car it should be under 2 hours to get to this town from the capitol.

We went to Tihany when we were in Hungary in 2021. We also took the boat from Siófok. We took the tram up to the Benedictine Abbey, but too hilly and didn’t go inside. Stay fluffy! We tried Lavender ice cream. It was our first time. (Eric)

Again, love the video and your style of presenting it! I first visited Tihany when I was 2,5 years old in 1967 (that was the first time my father dared to go back after he fled the country in 1956). Since then I’ve visited Tihany numerous times showing it to (Dutch) family and friends. They all enjoyed the abbey, the village and the surroundings very much. Very much worth a visit!

It depends on what kind of experience you look for. Siófok is good if you have kids as there are many activities besides laying on the beach and going for a swim (the arcades during the night can be fun, there is a little zoo, some gokart circuit etc). Or using Siófok as an HQ and visit other places from there like Füred, Tihany, Keszthely, Badacsony or the Balatonboglár region could be a good idea. But if you are not super into laying on the beach for several days, then a weekend should be enough for a nostalgic experience :)

Hey there! You'll need to take a train from Budapest (Kelenföld) to Balatonfüred and from there Buses take you to Tihany, it's about a 2,5 hour journey in one direction from Budapest. :)
