Exactly ….. I’ve been homeless and hungry. I was 18 and found myself alone and on the streets of Cleveland in the middle of winter. I’ve never forgotten how I felt and I’m really a blessed man today and it gives me a lot of empathy for folks on the streets.

Due to a pretty silly circumstance, I found myself with no money at all, no phone in a stranger city. I was homeless for 3 days (mid winter). I will never forget that as long as I live, and to you all I want to say: it's tough and scary. And I only tried it for such a short time.

What we need to remember is that homlessness also addiction is not a choice or weakness, it can easily happen to anyone at any time. Even if you in your own struggles can't give a lot we must each do what we can for each other. It is as simple as "do unto others as you would have them do unto you".

I was homeless from May 2019 to June 2021 in Kentucky and I will never forget my experience and struggles. I struggle with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fibromyalgia, PTSD and addiction. If not for my dog, I don't know if I would have survived my time on the street. He protected me, kept me warm, provided company and gave me a purpose to get up every day and continue to battle my demons. I am now in transitional housing and my pooch is staying with family members until I can get he and I a place of our own. It's not easy out there.... It's so difficult and exhausting. Not enough resources out there for the amount of people in need.

It's because our country has services that attempt to help these people, those countries do not and they literally starve to death on the sides of roads. People are too poor themselves to give up the food they need for their families in order to live one more day. Here for the most part that just wouldnt happen.

Sending love to all ❤️ people are way too judgemental the world over. Homelessness is going to include many more of us in the future. It's true, it is not always drug or alcohol related and even when it is there is often tragic reasons behind addictions too. Humanity needs to wake the f... Up ! We should all care enough about people not to allow anybody to have to suffer the indiginities of homelessness.

I get asked for money a lot going into Walmart and I say”come in and I will buy you food at the deli and a drink” I hate going to bed hungry ...all I think about is something to eat and what time is it instead of sleeping. Homeless people can’t jump in their car and go to Wafflehouse for some eggs and hash browns. I might not have a lot but I hope I always have a couple xtra bucks for someone in need. Every time I watch these, I always think of how I have a garage with very little stuff in it. I feel like I want to set up a few beds in there And let people stay while they get back on their feet. Especially if children are involved. They are so innocent and don’t deserve to suffer. I could give these people money one time but I feel like giving them a place to put their things and feel safe would help them so much more. I wish I had money like the kardashians. I would do so much good for the homeless.

The one thing I think that makes you have a greater chance of ending up homeless is not having family support. I really beg the young people not to get on drugs and if they have kids to love them and give them a safe place to land, their ENTIRE lives if the alternative is being out living in the woods.

I'm Disabled, a Veteran, and have been homeless for two years. I'm not a drug addict, just lost my housing two years ago when the apartment complex I was living at in Mesa Arizona was sold to a buyer in Toronto, who promptly notified the tenants living with Section 8 or VASH assistance they had the option to move out or pay full market value rent without assistance. I found while looking for a place to move to, that most low income housing in my area was eliminated in this same fashion by greedy investors and was unavailable to find another place to live. I bought an old van on payments and was forced to start living in it. I did so for a year and was offered a tiny fiberglass trailer on payments. I found that the person I bought it from had mislead me on a clear title, and have had difficulty getting it registered and legal to tow. I have been stranded at a Recreation Area, above Kingman Arizona for seven months now trying to get repairs done to my van. It is no longer safe to drive, and definitely not suitable to tow my trailer. It has been a living hell, upto 128 degrees at times this summer, now dealing with freezing cold at night and heavy winds. Every time I try to get some repairs made, something comes up. I bought a used generator which failed in a couple weeks, had to buy another one, then my emotional support dog Archie was badly bitten and required veterinary care, my air conditioning compressor failed in my Van, I cut my knuckle to the bone and ligaments on some glass discarding some trash which resulted in an Emergency Room Visit. I have been trying to get help, and have not had much success. I was accepted for PATH Rapid Rehousing through the Catholic Charities, but have searched all over Mohave County but found I cannot afford an apartment on my disability income. I have been looking for a room for rent, but no luck. So now I'm in a panic as I was notified by the Catholic Charities Caseworker handling my information, had their computer stolen and now my personal information has been compromised. I am on a waiting list for Section 8, basically started over. I did not choose to be in this homeless situation, and have been doing my best to deal with everything I have experienced the past 2 years. I had to literally give everything I owned away when I lost my apartment EVERYTHING!, I did try and keep my many tools, but those to were lost to a "friend" who was going but keep them until I get settled, but would never respond to my calls or texts. I am absolutely sick of my life. I don't live anymore, I merely exist, and it's not much of an existence at that. I have not showered in nearly 8 months, and haven't bathed in over two years since losing my apartment. My teeth are broken, many missing, and I broke another one recently, not looking forward to the toothache that's coming. I am nearly blind in one eye and can only see clearly with glasses, but I lost one of the lenses. I have reached out to every VA organization or service center I know of for help, but am ineligible. I worked for the Air Force starting my senior year of high school, as a civilian employee and for the next decade. I also simultaneously served 6 years in the Air National Guard, and was honorably discharged, but still don't meet the requirements as I was on active duty for well over a year with Avionics Technical School, and was activated during Desert Storm, but could not deploy with my unit, as I was a 3 level technician straight out of school. I have no family for support, no friends, only a few people I have met while being homeless. I have had a fellow vet brings some water bottles and food items several months back, and just today was given a propane tank, heavy sleeping bag, and nice winter coat by Catholic charities, these were definitely a blessing and will definitely help, but I don't see how I can ever get out of my situation as my limited income doesn't suffice to handle the many needs I currently have trying to get out of my homeless situation along with handling my major dental problems, lack now of a safe vehicle, and trailer registration. Any day the area I am staying may be closed, the BLM Rangers have told me they plan to close access to this Recreation Area soon. I will be in an Emergency Situation when they do, and have no idea yet what I will do.

Yes this comment 👏 please treat everybody respectfully. I went to a gas station by one of my clients house the other day at 5:00 in the morning, to get some more bottled water for their pets real quick. I pull up to a lady screaming at a sweet little old lady about how this is not the area to be doing her business and it's too nice and they don't want that kind of traffic up here. Meanwhile, the homeless lady is trying to let this other b**** know that she didn't ask anybody for money she was just hanging out there and she's got her own money. I know that is true, as the homeless lady offered to buy me a drink because I got the lady off her back 🥺 Yes, I ended up giving her money, but it literally took 45 minutes for her to accept $5 from me... So don't judge.

Watched Vice documentary where a hotel is charging very cheap weekly rates to help some get back on their feet. It is keeping some who have very low paying jobs out of homelessness. I think it is a good idea. There are many in my area who are homeless but still have jobs or are Vets with a tiny pension. Low weekly rent would help these people a lot. Not all homeless are drug addicts and many do work to feed themselves.

Tony L I started alumni program at salvation army just for this reason. for years I was a counselor at salvation army and the women's shelter, and the number one thing that I was so frustrated about, was they have no way to take care of themselves or get themselves successfully on their feet 😲 just like when you leave prison, you are put out on the street with nothing but your clothes on.... So now try to get yourself successful .... You can't, because the system is failing you to be put out there to be a successful productive human being. The alumni program I started here in Las Vegas, was for graduates, and they would have barbecues or car washes that I would provide the stuff for, and they would earn the money and then that way they can get a bus pass some clothes ID, place to live. They had to be there and actively participate and be clean and the alumni program if they continue to come to alumni, we would help them out and make sure they got on their feet successfully...(bus passes, places to live/halfway houses,, clothes, food, ID,) on the other hand you have to come to terms with what's reality. majority of them didn't want to help and our alumni group was very small, because there was no interest in it,.... I literally had to run the program with seven people.... Out of 123 people that went through that 6 months together 🥺....obviously it still didn't run because we did not get any donations, I was funding the whole thing. Just like everybody wants to talk about it but when push comes to shove no one's really there to help🤷‍♀️ I ended up getting a divorce and my financial position changed. I had to work, instead of volunteer, and I didn't have the money to keep the program going 🥺

And before everyone attacks me, I know there's a lot of people that do good. I just couldn't find any in Vegas🥺 also, unfortunately the stigma around homeless and drug addicts is very negative, and while people say that they care about it, they might, but they don't act because they feel like they put themselves in that position🥺🥺

Hey Hey Paula Oz I’m kinda going through that too, cancer came back 3 times along with a heart attack and to boot diabetes, the list goes on believe me, and I was in a position of being homeless! It was rough, how people look down at you and automatically think you’re a drug addict or an alcoholic (I’m neither), it’s rough living for sure trying to stay clean, keeping insulin cold, meds protected & especially being able to make it to the doctors appointments! God bless all these people that are out there!

Hey Hey Paula Oz I’m so sorry to hear about your cancer and the stage, I know it’s not easy. You must be scared & I don’t blame you, what comes to mind is all the people you wanna help or wish you had helped or maybe have done more. just grab that damn cancer by the horns, fight as hard as you can, that mind over matter really helps in time of need, I really wish the best for you.. I’ll make sure to say a prayer for you every day, you’re a sweet soul and we’re all gods children! You be safe I’ll have my fingers crossed 🤞🏻 you have great news!

There are people like me who need help . Have the room to help someone, but reality hits hard when you live with a stranger. Most roommate scenarios end badly. It’s very difficult to bring broken people together and have them live functionally ? Mental illnesses and drug addictions make this situation even worse. Even when given shelter it usually ends with homelessness again.

We see someone driving a nice car and wearing nice clothes and we assume they are well-off. The same way we see persons on the street and think they are addicts and lazy. Life is full of assumption. What we need is education about life circumstances and that is what this video is giving us so that we can shift from the lane of assuming to knowing.

I can't walk good or stand good but I have shared with people when I can from my window. I ask,. What's your story? Then we chat. Once a man wore a sign hungry so I grabbed two bags of drive thru and took it back to him. We chatted for ten fifteen minutes and he was off on his bike again. He migrates on his bicycle twice a year from Penn to florida. Alone. I'm perfectly amazed at the human spirit

They are in every area but some people don’t know about. Call the town hall in your area and they can get you in touch with the Vet rep for your area. There are many outreach programs that you may be eligible for. Good luck my friend.🙏😊

It’s actually harder to give a dollar to a homeless person today because we don’t carry money, we just have ATM cards. The only reason the whole world isn’t cashless is because too many poor people can’t get bank accounts and ATM cards. Everyone should have a Universal Basic Income. Please show more with women and children who are homeless.

What amazed me is how that these people manage to keep their places so clean and neat,, gave me an completely different take on homeless people, here where I stay (SA) most of the homeless tend to be of a completely different social stance (much lower,) Here most of the homeless you have every reason to be scared of (they are usually serious criminals) but these people just seemed to have very bad luck and are just normal, every day people like you or me

i dont understand how ppl are forced to go fight a war the government started, then they get kicked out to a life of homelessness due to PTSD when the war was what caused the PTSD in the first place
@tundrawomansays5067
@tundrawomansays5067 3 жыл бұрын
I’ll tell you how: Step One: Your most highly decorated vets come back and the “P” in PTSD kicks in and then.... Step Two: They still have some time left on their enlistment and start having an Article 15 here or there, just minor stuff but definitely related to the war so.... Step Three: What does this country do when it has a large standing military and the wars are over? Hmmmm, hey here’s an idea! Step Four: Give ‘em an Administrative Discharge, an End-Run around a Court Martial because ya don’t have crap to court martial them with but *now* you get rid of them without having to acknowledge YOU BROKE THEM so you don’t have to pay them any benefits! Eureka! Step Five: Now you got rid of “them” and also completely violated the contract you signed with them when they enlisted, but ohwell, “shit happens.” Step Six: Act oh-so-sad when you learn they became drug addicts/homeless/committed suicide etc. *Who could ever have predicted THAT outcome/s.*

So many nice people... I wish all of them would get some help. It is really true. Most of the homeless ones is the most caring and giving people on earth. Companies should build homes for this. This would be a good investment for everyone. It would be less crimes, less health issues, less sick people, less unemployed, means much more money for the whole community. Housing is the first thing that has to be done. The logic is just so easy to see. Is there only a few that can see this?

I was almost murdered by my army husband. Got kicked in the streets homeless by the army. after the abuser got arrested and charged. Was hell in a foreign country, no family, no money. Had to take the first job I could get my hands on, first one 48 hr shift, second job 7 nights week. I found an old lady to babysit my kids overnight le5 me pay her when I got my first pay she was a life saver, couldn't work without childcare. she was wonderful. Borrowed money for 2 campbeds. I worked at night slept in my car during the day. Saved saved for months sleeping in my car until i had deposits. Got us a crappy apt. Worked my way up. Trained in corrections to get enough money to feed my kids pay the bills. Everyone who isn't rich is a couple paychecks away from the streets. For women we have childcare money to find hundreds a month. It's hell.

When you apply for a job or an apartment, you can always tell them up front if you have a criminal record and if they automatically say no, then you don't have to fill out the application and save the hundred dollar application fee.
