tbf, the dialogue and script was -probably- definitely awful, so maybe if he was given a better line or delivery, plus a sense of direction (like the director saying that the guard is out of breath and tired) then the line would've definitely been better

@@jockeyfield1954 direction is key for voice acting. that's also why you can have decent or good voice actors that sometimes do a really bad job. There are some directors that don't shoot enough takes, refuse to give context, and don't give hints on how an actor should use their voice. Now multiply this issue by ten when you're dealing with people who can talk well but don't have a lot of experience in voice acting tequniques. When you deal with someone that's pretty inexperienced you have to be able to guide them and it really seems like they didn't do that here. They also could have done some post editing, like putting an effect on his voice to at least make it sound like its muffled from a mask. It wouldn't be great but it would have been better then leaving it as-is. the acting itself could have been better but there's also a LOT that the directors messed up on as far as leading a team of actors goes.

@@GwyndolinOwO Yeah, but still, if I was given a piece of paper with "the aliens are coming, we've been compromised" and told to voice act it, I'd run a lap around the outside of the house between takes to get that out of breath sound, because there's no situation where you're saying that sentence calmly.

EDIT: i apparently got it wrong and it's due to the devs misconfiguring an NPC to not deal damage, probably due to a sloppy copy and paste job, thanks to CTB 333 for pointing it out -By the way, i think the whole "not getting damaged" thing is due to how half life 2 works, you'll get damaged but quickly recover health if you don't have the HEV suit, this is used in the intro to not have the combine police ever kill the player, the devs probably overlooked this-

Incorrect. You can still take permanent damage and die with no suit. It's just that in the opening of the game they set a flag to change the behaviour of Civil Protection officers so that their attacks deal no damage (the idea being to set it up to instead teleport you out of the way with a fadeout to represent you getting tragged out of a restricted area). However, if the mapper does not set it up as such, they'll just thwack you endlessly and harmlessly once provoked. The only game I can readily think of with regenerating health and the HEV Suit in the files is Portal which does not grant you the suit at any point in the game: however if you have a custom map with it or give it to yourself using impulse cheats your health will still regen after a period of not taking damage.

The kitchen model that shows up around the 10 min mark is actually from Half-Life 2. It shows up when you take the elevator down after entering Black Mesa East, with a Vortigaunt cooking with it. The reason certain sides aren't textured is because that model is never meant to be seen from that side.

If you are wondering where they got the low-poly kitchen assets from, it's from the Black Mesa East section in HL2, where you see the Vortigaunts cook while in the elevator. Since it was a room the player was only meant to see for a few seconds and only from one angle, the assets inside were optimized. These clowns decided to add it to their mod but didn't bother changing or updating the models lmao.
