Our Hunter Douglas blinds are 10+yrs years old... they're awesome!
This DIY video walks through fixing the broken rise & lower spool. Along the way, we address things that other videos on this same topic don't tell you. In other words, there's a fair amount of content available on this topic. Rather than being redundant, this video fills the gaps... things they don't tell you.

This video was very helpful. My wife and I fixed our blind, after a so-called professional came to our house, charged us $75 for the house call, and told us the blind could not be repaired. The customer service people at Hunter Douglas were very helpful and courteous. By following the video, it took us less than 2 hours to do the repair.

Thx for your kind words DonStark. This video is 1 of 3 on this topic. Check out the ‘Hunter Douglas things they don’t tell you’ video. It includes a checklist, and is our most popular video. We’ve been a huge benefactor of KZfaq and desire to give back to the community. Did you subscribe? We’re in process of constructing more ‘things they don’t tell you’ videos… following the same format on all types of projects.

This video made my Christmas - my dad and I were able to fix our blinds easily thanks to this video. Thank you!! We were able to pull the string through the blinds by putting a loop on the paper clip, essentially replacing the bad tool Hudson provided

Yo, thanks for the video, I have the ones you just lift to open and pull down down to close, relatively similar and this helped me fish the cord back through and get them repaired with only 25 min of my time and the expense of 2 paper clips 🙌

Hi priceandpride… appreciate your perspective. For us at Suburban DIY, we see these types of projects & challenges as super satisfying and rewarding, rather than PITA. With that being said, it’s worthy to note, that we used to view all repairs as PITA. Meaning, we’ve learned the value of tackling DIY challenges over the years, rather than paying for repairs and/or buying new. 😉

Just moved into a rental and all the windows have these exact blinds. Of course the one in my master bedroom is not working. Will not go up or down. Landlord advised that it indeed worked when I moved in. WHATEVER. So, love love love your video. Not very mechanically inclined but I think I can handle this project. But where, how do order the parts? Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi Maura, thanks for subscribing and your kind words. Hunter Douglas makes it wicked easy to get replacement parts. You'll first need to identify the type of Hunter Douglas blinds. Then at their website, make the request for parts. Check out this video: m.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gJiliJiY3M3WgIk.html It shows how to order parts, and some additional detail when making the repair. Let us know how it turns out!

Thank you so much for this video...Now I have a problem mine has 3 spools because it's a wide window. My issue is that it won't go up and down evenly. On one side gets higher than the other. Could you tell me why? and how to fix it? Thank you.

Hi Eliana - for me it was the same issue on a 2-spool and 3-spool. Process is the same. We posted our first HD Blinds video prior to this one… it was a 3-spool. But the repair was the same. Even if it’s the middle spool of the 3-spool blind. Does that help?

@@suburbandiy Hi Ok I'll watch it..the other thing is that the cord was too old and from trying to get it even pulling one side and the other, it broke so I have to replace the cord too. It looks like the first spool is not working since it doesn't run down as easily.

It’s actually easier to put the wire into the blind from the bottom and pull the string through the hole.
@suburbandiy
@suburbandiy Жыл бұрын
Hi Ernie, thx for the tip. To clarify for viewers, if you elect to push the wire through the hole from the bottom, remember to ensure the wire loop is what’s going through the hole first. Reason is… the tape line is connected to the spool at the top. Meaning, the tape line goes down from top to bottom. So connect the tape line to the wire loop, then pull the wire back down through the hole to feed the tape line from top to bottom. 👌
