One of the reasons the Chimera Ant Arc is one of the absolute greatest stories in ALL media...the monster becomes a man, the boy becomes a monster. And it was all done in a believable, seamless manner that wasn't at all forced or for the sake of the main character.

Basically what gon did was he wanted the power to kill Pitou and wrote a blank check with his Nen as a condition. He signed a contract without reading the fine print because he didn't care what the price was as long as he got what he wanted.

Phinks talked about Nen after Death at the End of the Yorknew City Arc. That's why they couldn't hunt down Kurapika. Because his Nen after Death might just kill them all.

Many of the reactors watched this episode in tears, while yours truly laughed.

What I like about this episode is the two main call backs to the Yorknew Arc. First is Kurapika's training and the conditions of Restriction and Pledge. Which applies to Gon's sacrifice of his entire life going forward and his incredible potential, which has been hyped up and pointed out by various characters over the course of the series. And the other is that nen doesn't necessarily disappear after death, sometimes becoming even stronger depending on the situation. Which applies to Pitou's nen puppet ability. It's a real shame they cut out the Kite parts in the beginning. They definitely made a mistake there, since for some people it undermines Gon's spiral.

At the end of Yorn new arc after Kurabika placed a nen chain of Chrollo's heart preventing him from using nen Gon asked Phinks (Phantom troupe member) "why don't you just kill Kurabika, wouldn't that make his nen chain disappear amd solve your Boss's problems?" And that's when Phinks told him about how nen can stay even after death if there were strong emotions and feelings behind it and they also talked about nen after death in other ways, (like the arts in York new that have nen from centuries in them).

In HxH Nen IS life energy. He did a vow just like what Kurapika did but he’s willing to pay so much more.

Gon used a restriction to gain this power, same like Kurapika vs the Phantom troupe. Both put their life on the line

You may have to really think about it for a bit but TLDR all the nen-rules explained throughout all the arcs till now laid the groundwork for Gon to do something like this
