As a former cattle ranger, 250,000$ for a dairy cow may seem a lot but it all depends on the breed of cow, Jersey can go anywhere from 100,000 to 500,000 Hosting 150,000 to 600,000, Angus 250,000 to 750,000 Bramha 300,000 to 1 million. And that's on the lower side. High side can set you back almost 2 million. But I'm the type that would rather you work off what is owed then pay out of pocket and must ranchers are every understanding. But there are a few that only care about the money they are losing out on.

They can’t hit you with the future cost of profits and future offspring when there are replacement dairy cows all over the country ready to go right now. Anything lost until a reasonable replacement is found sure they can have that. That’s like a truck driver getting in an accident and saying you have to pay him for all the future money he would make with his truck. There are trucks all over the country ready to go. Yes Dairy bloodlines have a ton of genetic investment into them but they are shared all over the country and I doubt a prized milk cow is being pastured way out in the bush. They tend to keep these operations close to home. Also if there was no calf and she is in pasture then she’s not milking right now anyways. Actually this whole story is starting to not make sense the more I think about it. This must be for content??

Yeah, the dairy farmer is screwing with you. That dairy cow can be replaced with another one, of equal bloodlines and equal age and fertility. Auction or simple purchase price is going to be more like $2500, not a quarter million. Start recording your phone calls (there are apps for that) or corresponding only by writing/text. Go into town, find a lawyer, LET YOUR LAWYER DO ALL FUTURE COMMUNICATING. Maybe you'll spend a grand or two. Not even a small town inbreed court judge would award a quarter million dollars for a dairy cow. For an award winning breed mare or stallion, sure. But dairy cows don't go that high. That's called EXTORTION and it is a crime, even in Utah.

agree. have your lawyer try and negotitate a reasonable settlement with the rancher, probably start at $5K, and put the limit at $10K, this will be the fastest way to settle it, without going to court.. if they aren’t willing to settle, bring it in front of a judge.. will take more time, and cost you more $ for your lawyer, but guranteed it will be far less than $250K

If you don't know what the animal looks like that you're supposed to be hunting, you have no business going hunting. Cows and deer look nothing alike. And you're hunting license should be revoked for a few years to permanently. Also a bull may have cost even more on the future value and thousands of calves he may be able to breed with AI

She does owe the money. The dairy farmer lost income and potential income. Dairy cows are expensive to keep and that's a lot of lost income in milk, meat and income in offspring that she has taken away from that farmer.
