The scenery and vegetation are more interesting features than some over-represented Their mums might disagree). Likewise the animals, routes etc in the area, landscape, not portrait.. It's interesting how those places change over time, & also well filmed stuff is a good snapshot of places & times that don't get repeated. That area has changed a lot, those creeks were a spectacular sea of mountain lily at one time, and chamois were probably the most common in the open. If preaching pest control, shoot every breeding tahr seen (mature bull don't count yet). There are plenty more not seen, & the advocacy of some (blind) tahr lovers has caused some of the problems. Consider the tallies DoC managed to shoot, the fact the numbers haven't decreased much, and the populations various groups claimed to be there. They've all been killed possibly more than one in some opinions. Respect earned is deserved Hopefully learned from the experience of getting into tight spots, teh dignity of being stuffed into a black bag is over-rated. And helicopter extraction isn't reliable, weather actually happens, so a bent leg for a few days in poor weather (it's one of the wettest places in NZ) is worth thinking about before sticking the neck out. If using ropes & ice gear learn how to use them properly, & to get out of trouble, not into it. Particularly if trying any of the sites further north, it's a bit less forgiving.

You do aim for eradication right not just game, we need a pest free Aotearoa

Eradication with current options is not feasible. Doc and khunters can't even restrict the range of these goats (that are also highly valued as hunting objects). The numbers building up (& competent observers would see far more than these bit-time rec hunters) in this site are prime evidence. When DoC was begat there were very few, possibly none in these creeks. They were a sea of mountain lily etc. These hunters, and all their ilk combined, plus Doc's "professionals" have failed to even limit the numbers significantly, at best they have reduced them in the easy places. But they have spread them further. If next time they shoot every nanny they see (unrealistic, but good hunters will get a significant proportion) they might help a little. A few parties got worthwhile tallies when the ballot access-for- pest control- blocks nearby were initiated, most simply made tahr wary. As has recent aerial shooting. Doc managers & skidbiters kept their jobs. Pest free NZ is a pipe dream currently. Some localised (manageable) sites are well worth controlling pests to minimal levels for ecological protection, with tahr additionally being controlled to the levels defined in the Himalayan Tahr Plan. Those with save the tahr stickers & that attitude are deluded, tahr are very capable of saving themselves, & there would be far less pests in the hills if they could shoot back. Those who think most pests can be eradicated are likewise on a different planet. Much of suitable habitat NZ is now well overpopulated by wild animals. DoC's management competence is evidenced by the current goat control competition, a meaningless number of goats (probably abysmally small) will be shot, and many more made wary, populations dispersed etc. Although it would be good to be proved wrong, and see 100,000 tails entered.

@@johnmead8437 that is depressing to hear. I think with CRISPR we can make a change to have a infertile possum and that could be the way to wipe them out

@@awhesian Future tech, not current, & on the right idea (current opinion). Fits the ZIP target species. But deer, maybe other ungulates are not politically acceptable, we farm deer. With larger wild species eradication is unaffordable as well, so we may as well have quality ones. Which isn't going to persist as populations exceed carrying capacity
