My drug counselor who helped me get clean died right at the end of my rehab stint a couple months ago. He was a massive Tool fan as well and this was his favorite song. The man was 52 and seemingly in great health but his doing cocaine for years on end ended up finally killing his heart, even after over a decade sober. They played this song at his funeral and I’m not gonna lie it brings me to tears now. You’re going home, David.

Tool are in another league entirely in terms of musicians. However, in my opinion when it comes to rating their songs this is excluded as it’s automatically far and away the greatest piece of musical art they or anyone will/could ever write. I just automatically assume this ones taken for granted it’s clear number one and whichever song is named first Is best of the rest(which is nothing at all to be ashamed of) Saw them in Melbourne a month ago, from the moment Danny’s double bass kicked in on Ænima to the end of the song, never ever has a live piece sent such tingles and emotion through my body!

Around 3:55 mark you can see Adam's concern for Maynard when he walks close to him and looks up at him. I know that is somewhat a rare thing when tool performs for the most part. They typically all somewhat stay in their own little world of the stage. He was trying his best to provide some sort of emotional support from afar.

My dad died of pancreatic cancer that spread through his whole body on May 30th 2022. I wasn’t a Tool fan yet but he FOR SURE was. His birthday is June 25th, as a birthday gift we were all gonna see see Maynard’s other band, Puscifer, which I also never listened to. But I’m pissed off, he was so close to his birthday, he was so close to the concert, it was on June 11th. He didn’t even get to see one of his favorite singers once, it was his dream to see Maynard live, and it never happened. After the concert, i was willing to check out more of the band, but before I dove deeper into Puscifer, i knew i had to try Tool. I listened to the album “Undertow” and it blew me away. I had it on repeat constantly, then in like august, i decided to listen to Ænima, Lateralus, and 10,000 days all in one sitting on the same day. And that night I went to my local store and purchased a Lateralus cd, then i checked out Fear Inoculum, then opiate, then bought undertow on vinyl , then bought 10,000 days, then bought the fear Inoculum expanded book edition, and lastly traveled to Jerome Az with my grandpa to Puscifer, the store, and got the classic opiate cd. I’ve been listening to Tool nearly every day for almost a year along with Perfect Circle and Puscifer. Now as a genuine tool fan, I’m gonna make it my life goal to see Tool live for my dad.

This song helped get me through my mother's last year, and the year after her passing. I didn't eat much. Not much sleep. Taking care of a 4 year old daughter who has no recollection of the stories my mother told her. Except what I remind her of. Wrecked my heart physically and emotionally. But the music helped. I was not so alone. So grateful

When it comes to Danny's drumming people keep talking about Rossetta Stoned, Pnuema or Lateralus and rightly so, but how come nobody ever mention this song? His drumming is so delicate, elegant, creative here. How he creates atmosphere with different rhythms on the cymbals, Then the unique pattern he plays from 3:13 onwards. Masterful. Just masterful.

my mother passed away in 2022 with covid, she had been in pain for a very long time with other medical issues and she had been living with me for the past 3 and a half years. she was a christian and i'm an atheist and we had many discussions on the topic of faith and religion. this song breaks my fucking heart every time i hear it. this is the MOST heartfelt tribute ever penned and i'm so grateful to Maynard for writing it.

When I first started listening to these songs (i.e before i knew the story) I thought they were really great songs by themselves. Then, I read up on them out of curiosity and afterwards everytime Maynard shouted "Unconditional one!" I always shed a few tears from the sheer power combined with the story behind the two songs. And now, with my grandma being dead only a month; give or take, these are very hard songs to listen to and every time Maynard utters the three words "bring me home" at the end of the song I start crying because I'm positive that my grandma is in heaven now and that she will serve god as a pillar of light along with Ms. Judith Marie.

When I discovered this song (with its twin, Wings for Marie, of course), I realized only a few seconds after it started that I should get out to a solitary peaceful place (which was extremely hard because I was in school), close my eyes and just surrender to the experience. About halfway into the song, a great inspiration struck me and I couldn't let it just fade away, so I (trying to stay as peaceful and calm as before), went to my class, took a notebook and a pen, and went back out. Then I sat down on the grass and just started writing whatever was in my head. No matter how weird or irrational those ideas were, I pulled them out of the spiritual experience I was willingly trapped in, and wrote them down on the notebook in front of me. As I started writing, a story took shape in my head, a story that I have worked on a bit with my former band members for a concept album. It was the story of a man who have arrived on another planet, and didn't manage to return home. He was completely alone, and he started to go mad. He started to hallucinate and come up with highly intelligent and abstract ideas, and eventually, he realized that if he would die alone on that planet, all of those ideas would go to waste. At the same time though, he came to the conclusion that life has no purpose, and his isolation drove him crazy to the point where he didn't see any reason to live. But if he would kill himself, all of those highly intelligent ideas would disappear from existence and probably would never be thought of again. Suddenly, a friend of mine came and shook me back to the real world, and said that we have to go back to class because recess was over. In the few following hours, I was just peaceful and happy. It made me appreciate life more and see things differently. For that, I forever thank TOOL.

Yeah exactly. There are technically more "talented" vocalists but it's not preferred. There's probably some 18 year old that songs Bubblegum pop that's technically a "better" singer but obviously that's not our thing. In the end it comes down to individual voice and style.

Amazing beauty this song has. It was played maybe a handful of times. Such a personal song from Maynard about his mother's struggle being crippled after having a stroke and still having so much faith in god. I know what it's like to watch your mother slowly wither and die. Different circumstances, I was 29 but it stays with you forever. I always get a tear from the depth of Manard's lyrics in this song. The music is phenomenal. These guys are legends that have stood the test of time. I've seen TOOL maybe seven times since 97' and in my opinion, the 10,000 Days Tour is still my favorite.

We listen to the tales and romanticize, How we'd follow the path of the hero. Boast about the day when the rivers overrun, How we rise to the height of our halo. Listen to the tales as we all rationalize, Our way into the arms of the savior. Feigning all the trials and the tribulations. None of us have actually been there, Not like you... Ignorant siblings in the congregation. Gather around spewing sympathy, Spare me... None of them can even hold a candle up to you. Blinded by choice, these hypocrites won't see. But enough about the collective Judas. Who could deny you were the one who illuminated Your little piece of the divine? And this little light of mine, a gift you passed on to me I'm gonna let it shine To guide you safely on your way. Your way home... Oh, what are they gonna do when the lights go down? Without you to guide them all to Zion? What are they gonna do when the rivers overrun Other than tremble incessantly? High is the way, But our eyes are upon the ground. You are the light and the way. They'll only read about. I only pray heaven knows, When to lift you out. 10,000 days in the fire is long enough. You're going home... You're the only one who can hold your head up high. Shake your fist at the gates saying, "I've come home now! Fetch me the spirit, the son and the father. Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended. It's time now! My time now! Give me my Give me my wings!" Give me my [5x] Give me my wings You are the light, the way, That they will only read about. Set as I am in my ways and my arrogance. Burden of proof tossed upon the believers. You were my witness, my eyes, my evidence, Judith Marie, unconditional one. Daylight dims leaving cold fluorescence. Difficult to see you in this light. Please forgive this bold suggestion. Should you see your maker's face tonight, Look him in the eye. Look him in the eye and tell him, "I never lived a lie, never took a life, But surely saved one. Hallelujah It's time for you to bring me home."
