From a favorite to Valide Sultan. Nurbanu was the first woman to hold both Haseki and Valide title before her son was even on the throne. It was Selim who gave her the Valide title in order to proclaim Murad as the crown prince. When Selim took the throne Nurbanu become the head of his Harem and gather a group of powerful people at her service: Gazanfer Agha, Canfeda once her stewardess at Manissa(Kāhya), Radiye (Kalfa) who was her forewoman, as well as Esther her lady-in-waiting (Kira) who was a Jewish woman, originated from spain and late wife of the Highly, respected Elijah Handali and she was responsible of Nurbanu's transactions with the exterior world. Hurrem ISNT the strongest in the show, and she ISNT in the strongest in history also. Well truth be told Hurrem also was in the most comfortable position of them all. Hürrem took over when Suleiman still had enough time. She didn't had to worry about life of her sons until later. Nürbanu could loose both Selim and her sons at any moment because Suleiman was already old and Selim was not the favourite heir apparent. Safiye was in pretty good position being the mistress of heir apparent and giving birth to a boy before Suleiman even died. Also Mehmet 3. was very loyal to her. Kösem had enemies all around her and because Ahmed died young she had to be strong and protect the lifes of her underaged children's. Türhan is an interesting case, most people hated her in the series but I would say I get her. By the time Ibrahim died Kösem was beyond cruel and ruthless and Türhan knew that sooner or later she will get on her bad side and Kösem would kill Mehmet without a second thought. So she did the only thing she could do and killed Kösem.

It's definitely Kösem!! Türhan defeated her but she never able to take that place in the pages of history which kösem did and has... Safiya became powerful when she bacame the valide sultan but kösem became valide plus buyuk valide sultan bc she was powerful....And I hate Nurbano bc for me she was too evil as she destroyed her son and considered safiya witch for the sake of power... And Hürrem my second fav, she was the only Sultana who took the most right decisions, manipulative who knows how to get things which she needed , cunning and smart but still she didn't able to achieve the people's love of those time which kösem had and still having....

@@editsbytalhaa there's no doubt that Kösem did have it... She was officially having the title of Naib-e-sultanat.... In fact she had the power to overthrew the reigning sultan and make the other sehzade to sit on the throne.... But at the same time Türhan was no less... Both the sultana worked as the regent but it's evident that she often had to take help and suggestions on political matters from viziers... She was quite politically incapable bc she was inexperienced still a lady in her twenties which led to the appointment of Mehmed pasha as the new grand vizier giving him the special political authority and limiting her own power.....

Yes kosem was so experienced when when she was Naib-e-Sultanat she took her own decisions which came from experience! Turhan doesn’t have that experience! Safiye had to fight hard for the power and kosem had to fight hard with Safiye for the place too! I guess Turhan got the power so easily without much difficulty. so we can never compare kosem with Turhan!

@@ismasakki3882 Safiye Sultan: The Golden Queen of the Ottoman Empire Safiye Sultan was the chief consort of Murad III and queen mother of Mehmed III. She was one of the most powerful chief consorts and queen mothers in Ottoman history. Contrary to the previous chief consorts or queen mothers, Safiye Sultan didn’t need a great love story, and she never hesitated to show her intelligence and ambitions. Her background is quite unclear, like every woman in the harem. While some argued that she had Venetian roots, some of them claimed she was Albanian or Bosnian. Whatever her origins, it is clear that she didn’t come from a peasant family. Her further acts showed that she had strong courtier education and diplomatic sense. In 1563, she came to the court as a present for the heir apparent (later Murad III). They called her Safiye (pure one) because of her golden hair and fair skin. There is no information about her education period in the harem, but she had her first child (the future Mehmed III) in 1566. As the mother of the oldest son, she had a bit power and freedom in the harem. Safiye remained as Murad’s only woman for several years in an unusual way, but they had no other son. At this point, Safiye used her logic and accepted Murad’s other concubines without jealousy. Moreover, she sent concubines to take control over him. Over time, Sultan Murad had twenty-five sons out of fifty children from different women. During Murad’s reign, Safiye enjoyed state events and was highly respected as the mother of the first prince. Moreover, she was very active in foreign affairs of the Empire; she corresponded with European rulers directly. She even received a golden coach from Queen Elizabeth I. She used to go around the city with her gorgeous coach and caused a scandal. At these times in Ottoman Empire, it was very odd to see a woman with a coach. Also, ambassadors knew of her fondness for gold and precious gifts, and soon she became the richest women in the Empire. Safiye Sultan had very good relations with the Venetian ambassador who never forgot to send gifts and gold. When she became queen mother in 1595, she became more active in internal affairs and continued to support Venice on foreign affairs. She had to handle serious internal struggles and struggles with the army instead of her son. She gave money for the war expenses from her personal account to support her son. Safiye Sultan arranged the highest allowance ever for herself as queen mother. Although she enjoyed her allowance, Safiye Sultan was famous for her generosity and charity works. The most famous thing that she built was the New Mosque. In 1598, Safiye Sultan started the building process; it was the last big mosque complex built by the Ottomans. The building process stopped after her death, and the mosque was abandoned for a while. It was finally finished in 1665. In 1603, Safiye Sultan supported the execution of Prince Mahmud (her oldest grandson) with his mother, after an argument between her son and Prince Mahmud. Prince Mahmud and his mother were executed that same year. Tragedy struck in her life right after the executions; her son died on 21 December, so she lost her title as queen mother and her role in the court. She was exiled to the old palace, but she continued to take her allowance. During her grandson’s reign, she couldn’t return the main court except for short visits. In 1619, while returning from a court visit, she suddenly fell ill inside her coach and died the same day. In the end, Safiye Sultan’s story wasn’t about a great love, but a strong desire to govern. She showed everyone that if a woman wants to govern, she doesn’t need to stay behind the curtain. No one could defeat Hurram. He won over every enemy. Suleiman's ring as a token of his love later became a symbol of strength . She never insulted Valida Sultan. She was always respected vialide , she did not go against them until they left a way for her unlike other. All the other sultanas loved their sultan but not more than their power postion whereas Hurrem could even end her life for Sulaiman. It was Hurram who started the woman Sultanate. If she was not there then none of the coming sultana would have got so much power.

Kosem even by her words she showed who's the real boss to Safiye she destroyed even with words.Kosem for having one of Islam greatest Mosques built for her & cause she is the first Sultana to rule like Padishah and Turhan cause she was calm power and super intelligent too and ruled like Padishah too I love these 2 women the best and make me proud as a woman for female gender!!! I'm sure a lot women would see Kosem & Turhan as women leaders admirably & inspirational female figures who became leaders of one world's greatest back then empire when this empire was at the peak of it's period! Both Kosem & Turhan are physically some of the most beautiful gorgeous Ottoman Sultanas but they are successful and powerful. I don't like Hurrem for being the least attractive and most satanic one and Nurbanu for ruining the empire and being evil,greedy. Safiye may was greedy for power she poisoned her son,plot against her first grandson and had Mahmood being executed and poisoned Ahmed too but Safiye was a great woman of her time that fire burned her and she became and survived,Safiye is badazz she had personal friendships with foreign Queens one was Queen Elizabeth of Tudor dynasty, Safiye was gorgeous and amazingly beautiful but smart it takes a lot of strength and intelligence to survive the suffer from having to face the pain of seeing your family die and being taken with force from Albania to Istanbul and be a real legend! An Albanian poor slave that she co-ruled with Murad III and she did all for power that succeeded and the best are Kosem & Turhan they took power in whole new level with small difference like it or not Mahpeyker Kosem was loved so much by Sultan Ahmed he gave her whole world

Eventually women's reign ended and I love how the series portrayed it. That ring is not real, it's a symbol of power. Hürrem said that she wanted the ring to be buried w her since it was her soul. She said it herself, that ring would harm everyone but me. So when Nurbanu stole the ring, i thought of Hürrem's words. It will eventually hurt her. And it kind of did we witnessed every person with the ring loose to the next women in the reign line. Turhan Sultan is an exception however let's not forget that she gave up the ring, symbolizing the power, herself.
