Defne becomes successful on winning Bayezid's heart and tells Selim a secret that she has found out. The trap that Selim has set for Bayezid drives him crazy. Mihrimah gets lesions on her body. Doctor Pedro who comes to cure Mihrimah's lesions enamours her. Fatma puts Hürrem in a grat danger. Suleiman gets shocked because of what he sees as he comes to save Hürrem. Suleiman banishes Fatma from the capital. Hürrem gets terrified because of what the fortune teller has told her. Suleiman throws his heart into the flames within Mustafa's letter.
At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

Interesting that this fight comes at the same time as Hürrem's diagnosis. Because it it frames the fight between Selim and Bayezid as being the thing that kills her. Since it requires her to actually choose between her sons and as their mother she can't do that.

i love how selim's first reaction is to ask nurbanu if she did something . this couple is unlike any other in the show , they dont pretend to be angels in front of each other . they know the other one's dark side . they do everything to protect each other . another thing i love about selim is that even tho he is well aware of the conflict between his mother and nurbanu and his mother's inclination to bayezid , he loves and respects his mother no matter what but he loves nurbanu as well and hence protects her from his mother's wrath every time even after knowing full well about her wrongdoings , he knows and understands that whatever she does is for him and his son , he doesn't expect her to be perfect and innocent . that is the most logical and realistic love story in the show . the other kings of this show could take advise from selim how to balance your relations with yr mother and love . Hurrem too is the best mother of the show . first of all she never lusted for the position of valide , all she wanted was to live at peace with her family and she always prioritized her son's happiness . she even gave nurbanu several chances just because she knew how much nurbanu loved selim . same with bayezid and hurichihan , she supported their marriage and kept it a secret just because it made bayezid happy even tho she didn't agree and was furious with it . she never hated hurichihan after that and never tortured her like the other sultanas of the show did with their daughter in laws

Many things to say... Once again I am impressed by the (lack of) intelligence of Bayezid. I mean he has a golden opportunity to discredit Selim with his father (or at least plant doubt in his mind) by going straight to the capital with the concubine who tried to poison him and let explain everything (an evidence that could corroborate in addition to Defne's confession is the fact that his sister is in the custody of Nurbanu and Selim) and sayint that that he surrenders entirely to the judgment of his father not enough to punish Selim but enough to gain points in his favor and lose some of Selim.Moreover he can take Selim or even Nurbanu of speed because one is not aware of the poisoning attempt the other does not know that it failed . But what is he doing? He gives a letter without proof while telling Suleiman that he will go and eliminate his brother without his consent. There is nothing to add. With the betrayal of his teacher Roose Bolton - not so Roose Bolton in the show disapointment - makes sense. Hurrem I understand you can't choose between your sons and you are angry with Nurbanu but could you please stop accusing her of bringing discord between Bayeznd and Selim she only did it to use to his advantage and of course trying to eliminate Bayezid but the dislike was already deep and almost without reconciliation when it came (Hurrem wrongly accused Mustafa of the same). And Selim isn't wrong when he says that Hurrem and Nurbanu are alike and they only do these things to protect their children. P.S: even though Nurbanu brought her children although I disagree but understand that she is scared I find the fact that she does not respond as sure and impulsively smarter than young Hurrem. Each successor surpasses the master but ultimately falls into the hands of their next true infernal cycle students- Hafsa then Hurrem, Nurbanu, Safiye, Kosem and Turhan-

Agreed. Bayezid is an idiot and Nurbanu is Hürrem 2.0. I think in character Hürrem accusing Nurbanu comes down to her defensiveness of her family. But in writing it comes down to a certain trope.

Selim started it. Why the rest the brothers weren't act like this? Mustafa, Beyazid, Mehmed and Cihangir were beloved each other, they always supported each other. They had done a deal that if Mustafa was Sultan one day, that they were all together, no one of them wouldn't be executed and all together they were be ruling the state. However Selim always never loved his brothers (not even Mihrimah), he killed three of his brothers (Mustafa, Cihangir and Beyazid with his sons, his own little nephews) and then he also dared to threat Mihrimah, who was his sister and his Valide Sultana. He should be more careful of what he does, not Beyazid, who always was telling the truth.

Turning point for Bayezid was when Lala Mustafa. Made the decision to back Selim…. Putting nail in coffin for Bayezid. Lala knew at that point. Selim was the future. And he had to survive.

Say what you want about Hurrem, gods know she wasn't innocent, but she never used her children in battles against her enemies. Meanwhile Nurbanu uses her kids as a literal meat shield. Yes, case might be made that Hurrem used Mihrimah by forcing her into a political marriage, but whether you like it or not that's how it was at the time. She wasn't lying when she said that, even if Mihrimah divorced Rustem, Suleiman would've married her off again sooner or later.

Bayezid like Mustafa were mot fit to rule….this scene shows why bayezid could never be Sultan. Even if Selim did do what he is accused of, Bayezid should of shown restraint. And could of gotten back at Selim without going out trying to fight him and killing many along the way. Sultan Suleyman said it perfectly….Selim sins hurt only him, But bayezid takes down the whole kingdom with him to try and get his revenge.

Ayse too(in the show)had intentions to turn Murad against Kosem in the beginning of season 2.But then Farya came and she lost the influence. Ayse is not different from Mahidevran ,Nurbanu or Turhan.Also irl,she was kinda similar like Turhan.

Real Ayse was turhans version of series actually but valide sultan ended her career , didn't even let her marry her own daughter Kaya with the man she wanted. At least it turned to a happy marriage. Turhan had no political power and as valide , she was overshadowed by the grand vizier koprolu who didn't like her.

Kosem wasn't even haseki and she threatened and was superior than Safiye and Handan.Irl,that was impossible.Turhan too was not arrogant irl, like in the series. Turhan was not overshadow as Valide,and she had a lot of political influence,lol. What you had wrote about Turhan is completely false. You should read her biography.

@@drfhgs428 Turhan had no actual power, she ran to emetullah Rabia gulnus sultan for help at once when koprullu ignored her. Also haseki emetullah sultan had more influence over mehmed than Turhan did. Kosem sultan was strong as haseki , not as in series but she had power, she knew how to speak with Ahmed not to cross any limits. She had more power than safiye and more influence than handan (about handan , before she gets the haseki title)

Turhan had power as Valide,and Gulnus also had power as Haseki too.Their relationship was not like Nurbanu and Safiye,not even close as their.They had neutral relationship.She didn't "run" after Gulnus for "help",but they worked together to remove one pasa from the divan. Because both of them disliked him. And during this period, Koporllu was dead. Mehmed was bad sultan,basically Turhan ruled the state from behinds(like Safiye did with her son),even after her regency title was removed.That's why people had said that after Turhan's death,his reign has come to end. Of course, Kosem was more powerful then Safiye and Handan irl, but not as concubine like in the series. She was powerful, when Handan had died, and Safiye was exiled in the Old Palace.

Selim was jealous when he and Bayezid were children; Bayezid’s jewelry work on the knife was better than the work Selim did. Selim ruined all of the hard work that Bayezid put in to the scabbard!

I would have liked that the show introduce an event according to some sources: a spy who was under Rustem order spy the sehzade Mustafa but Mustafa managed to return to his favor and made him a faithful ally whereas. It would have subsequently made an interesting parallel to the fact that Selim managed to turn Lala Mustafa in his favor who was also to spy on him on Rustem's orders since the vizir favor Bayezid at that time. It would have shown the limits of Rustem who seems to me to underestimate these two sehzades in his own way ( Mustafa and Selim), and their ability to attract the loyalty of important and powerful people (which was true historically)

Yes that is true.That pasa who betrayed Rustem was later married with Nergisshah,and he become a loyal supporter of Mustafa. Also Lala Mustafa betrayed Bayezid irl to Selim,and he was married to Humashah(daughter of Sehzade Mehmed) later when Murad(Selim's son) ascended the throne. There is also another very important historical event missing.When Bayezid rebbelied against Selim,Suleiman planed to apoint his nephew Sultanzade Kara Sah Osman(son of Hafise Sultana)as his heir,if Selim and Murad had died. So Bayezid,couldn't not get the throne. If this had happened that will be the first case when a sultanzade(son of sultana)ascende the throne.Another example is when the sister of Mustafa I and her husband Davud Pasa wanted to apoint their son as heir to Mustafa,and also Halime Sultana supported them.But they were stoped by the statesmen. There are more missing important things which happened historically. In this show, they made Suleiman and Mustafa literally naive and stupid.

@@drfhgs428 For the appoiting of heir I Kara Sah Osman, I am agree with you I already talk in a video of MCK where I am explaining why Kosem apoint another heir instead of Bayezid if Bayezid suceed to kill Murad ( in the show but I make a parrallel with this in history) it was the tradition a Sultan would do anything to not appoint a sehzade traitor. Suleiman in history was not naive and stupid at all just like Mustafa. But in the show he was not naive too he pretends to be manipulated (to get away with it) but deep down he decides the fate of everyone in any state of consciousness. Thanks to the show to make only Nergissah as a daughter and don't include Sah, because otherwise we could have had this interesting parallel with lala Mustafa- Roose Bolton as I like to call him he has interesting historical parallels with him if we compare- and the marriage with Humasah. The problem is that the writers spent a tiny bit of time on Suleiman's grandsons -not enough time but we could see their personalities a bit- and not at all on Suleiman's granddaughters. Anyway it is always interesting to have your view :)
