Power was restored in my apartment this morning; a couple of hours ago, I walked to my mailbox. As I approached the mail boxes, I saw a police officer standing near the parking lot and the smell of rotting flesh struck me. I saw a stretcher laying on the ground outside of another apartment. The thought suddenly struck me, someone probably died there. I'm sure it will be more than 3 that died due to overheatting.

They will hide it for centerpoint. They will call it heart failure, respiratory failure, natural causes. Bet! These people lived half their lives on same powelines always paid their bill and centerpoint never updated their lines or even spent enough on maintenance! Criminal!

The local government need to help Centerpoint clear trees. Holding them accountable does nothing but deflect the blame. Why are there no word of more cooling centers open throughout? This is not hurricane preparedness, this is shifting responsibility and BS politics.

Electric utilities are not in the tree business and they don't plant them either. If they even suggest cutting a tree they are met with customers screaming bloody murder. People need to make a decision of the need for trees or electric power.

A tell u one thing. A couple years ago I finally decided to buy real work boots. I like my running shoes. Well I looked on peer-2-peer sites. Dude was selling red wing boots. I bought them for $10. They was like new. Wear them everytime I cut grass. I was in one yard couple days ago. A tree fell on power line. I thought the line was cold. Picked up the meter jar and watched what 240volts/200amp sparks look like. Im glad I bought the redwing. They come with electrical hazard protection. I dont know what possessed me to pick-up the box.

@@cerebrumexcrementwhile it may have gotten one degree hotter in our lifetimes, I must say that humidity plays a big part. I don’t remember ever feeling this hot when I was a kid, and I would play outside all summer with jeans and long sleeves to protect me from thorns and mosquitoes. I mean, Houston is coastal, but Dallas, where did the humidity come from? Sure, there are a lot more lakes now then there were a century ago, but not any more than when I was a kid. Also, my ancestors didn’t have AC till like maybe the 50s or 60s. I know houses were built different back then, with breezeways and such, but I don’t think that’s it either. There’s plenty of century old houses still around that don’t seem to cool down much. If anything, they’re worse due to the insulation and windows not keeping the heat out. I suppose people stayed cool on the porch, and sleeping with you windows open. Not really something you can do anymore.

I relocated to Texas from Kansas, and I love this state, but... The lack of insight with our infrastructure is astounding. I have never seen trees trimmed back or taken care of ANYWHERE where I live. I had a tree I wanted trimmed (because I saw a limb was close to the powerline) and called a tree trimmer. He looked at it, and told me he wouldn't touch it because it was too close to the powerline. SO...I called Entergy twice requesting they come look at the tree, no one ever came. Fast forward three months and the limb blew off during a particularly windy day, and knocked out the power to my entire neighborhood for almost 2 days, in summer. Don't get me started about the roads being put under construction dangerously with no shoulder, no crews ever working. for YEARS. YEARS. Don't get me started on that. I know people love Texas but my god, this state needs A LOT of infrastructure work.

People are aware of what's being said about Hidalgo's refusal of help from Lt.-Gov. Patrick, right? He offered assistance in advance in preparation for Beryl in case it came our way, and she said "No." Now the people of Harris County have to suffer for ANOTHER one of her mistakes. I finally got power Friday afternoon. I had to throw out a lot of food. This is the second time this year that I have lost power for 3 days or longer. This is obviously a management problem. There were plenty of trucks and workers but it doesn’t look like the men and equipment were used in an efficient manner. Hats off to the linemen who worked in adverse conditions and had to tolerate angry outbursts from some Centerpoint customers. I work remotely but I managed to stay connected using my cell phone as a hotspot. I also had a solar panel set up to recharge a battery and an inverter to run my computer.

Weak storm. Armchair Meteorologist. 1) Houston got hit by the dirty side of the storm. 2) 200+ reports of Tornado warnings during this storm. 3) We had a drought last year that shifted the ground and impacted the roots, then we get more rain this year and it settles more and then you get hit by this storm. 4) Grid was bad, but when trees fall, who do you blame. A lot of super tall trees that weren't trimmed caused these issues.

Brutal... Had all these years to make adjustments.. Now, we hope the power stays on so we don't cook in our homes. Worse? Stopping would only accelerate it. All that smog is acting like clouds. Reflecting light. When we shut down over the pandemic, the rate jumped wildly. Now, it's a matter of time and phased denial.

Some people don’t have the funds or transportation & not all businesses nearby were open due to no power. A lot of hotels were fully booked or price gouging. I camped inside my truck with the a/c on & went looking for businesses that were open to rest my truck & walk around to cool in. I get you but we don’t know this persons circumstances. No one deserves this even if they weren’t prepared.

There are fans you can get that are not electric. This is why they also say to stock up on water or electrolytes drinks when there’s a hurricane coming. People don’t seem to think to stay hydrated when it’s hot outside. Center point needs to shut down as they do not care about the customers

You know? You pay HOA dues religiously so why doesn't HOA reach out to their communities and provide services needed to these people who are suffering??? Like cutting those trees away and providing a portable kitchen or something??? Everyone passes the buck!! That is the least they can do!!!!

The elderly and disabled are on their own. Their communities will not be able to save them and it is not the priority of government leadership to do so. The vulnerable have no chance in this state or country anymore. They ask for patience as their citizens are baked to death.

There is a climate change for sure happening. Back in the early 70s, in Toronto Ontario, we never even thought of air conditioning. Even less in Quebec. And now, you can’t survive the heat in Toronto. The city has cooling center to relieve from the heat!! And Quebec is becoming the same with heat alerts. I can’t imagine 110 degrees in the US every day. That’s insane
