Perry was using the state cancer fund to provide kickbacks to political donors, all the fund managers resigned over the corruption. A Perry crony was indicted, and then Perry vetoed the budget to the investigating DAs office and shut down all corruption investigations, across the entire state, for both parties. Abbot was the Attorney General who turned his head and looked the other way, then used the same donors in his campaign.

Not even a powerful hurricane. It was a Cat 1, a stage above tropical storm. What hit Jamaica was a Cat 5. I live in Texas in the coastal area, the eye wall actually crossed us twice. So much damage. So many trees took out the power lines. Pecan trees have notoriously shallow root systems so nearly every one in my county was taken out by Beryl. Dealt with flooding during Harvey, it was a Cat 5 and we never lost power, it just dumped buckets of water endlessly. Also only lost power for about 2 hours during the ice storm of 21. This storm, one of my pecans is laying on the neighborhood power lines, and my neighbors pecan tree wiped out the power lines to my house. Yanked it straight from the house. Its gonna be a while til we get power back I'd say. Anyway my point is, this was a baby hurricane and so much of the state is without power. Hell, my county had numbers where an estimated ~90% is without power. The infrastructure only does so well if the maintenance of lines and trees are kept up with. Unless all of Texas decides to have all power lines buried with no power poles, I dont see it getting any better to be honest.

@@michaelconner1771 oh it would be astronomical. Atleast doing it for the coastal areas and any new construction projects going forward would be a start. It would take decades for the areas most affected to get there, and the taxes from the state would definitely go up to help pay for it. Or, some of the roadway projects could take a backseat to help the infrastructure of the state, and have their funding go to help with the costs.

@cornxx3 Well, this definitely deserves a case study. No one in this modern-day era should be without power resources because of rain and wind. We are far more advanced than that. Unless of cousre, a true class system is in place where the money one earns and where one resides determines who and when one receives immediate help that I believe we are ALL entitled to.

@@michaelconner1771 I agree with you there. It should be commonplace that all newly developed areas have the system in place that everywhere else would get later. Work on the problem from both ends and stop doing it the current way. The transformers would likely have to be on boxes on the ground with tight seals or at the very least, be on elevated poles. Say the pipes are buried at depth, they then travel up the pole to the transformer and then back into the ground they go. Massively limits the possibility of trees being the reason there's no power. It would have to be a direct hit to the pole and not just anywhere along the length of the line. Considering how the population keeps increasing just by natural means of reproduction and then (im)migration, the system has shown its flaws. Not working to make it better is willful ignorance. It's like putting a bandaid on a gunshot would, sure it looks good from the outside but it's not doing anything. But in this case the shot actually broke bones too. Need to address the issues from the inside, outward. And as little as people like to admit, the state needs to add more nuclear plants for energy production. Until brighter minds can actually come up with a greater source of renewable and clean energy other than solar/wind/hydro/geothermal... nuclear is by far the cleanest and most efficient power production to date. Biggest problem with it is how finite it is and of course the price point. Definitely need more think tanks on energy production with some of the brightest minds in both experimental and theoretical physics to let us know what would and wouldn't work. It's just with how the political landscape is for corporate America, there will be many roadblocks for new and better changes if it affects their business interests. Can't even get a speed rail between Houston and Dallas because the Airports threw a fit and blocked the proposals starting back from the 90's. Something that would help so many people by being able to afford a cheaper safe and reliable transportation, especially if the rail network were expanded to included other areas and states, gets blocked because of corporate greed. Anyway, I'll end it here because I can go on and on with my thoughts.
