We hear the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) have "developed strategic plans to counter any potential threat of looting or any other opportunistic crimes during this Hurricane". Yea, a grand statement to make. Plans may well have been developed, but the minute the JDF & the Police are seen to be leaving the streets, for their own safety, if that is they are deployed beforehand as a deterrent. There will be some types in Jamaica that take advantage of the situation as we have seen for days on end in the USA a few years past and full on loot the place. It'll happen and great steps will later be taken by that Government to keep it out of the news. Due to the utter shame. How bad it would look on that Govt. Most Jamaican will to their credit not go out looting, even if they are not that financially well off, but sadly some out of utter greed and indifference are likely to. Depriving hard working local store holders their future living and hope. The wind & flying debris may be bad enough for shop keepers in the first place, damaging their property and stock of goods, then in some cases the locust hoard of looters will descend and pick the place clean. I can't stand seeing those who do it or the poor store owners later seen to be in much despair. That those around them would do that to them, though they will and not care much about it either. All planned out in advance, various stores picked out for this grievous act of criminality. Stolen shopping carts currently at the ready with pick up trucks that'll be deftly put in place to load up the loot. Doing that to their fellow Jamaican's. Of cause as these criminals amongst us do the World over in these opportunistic situations. Harsh penalties must be imposed. There is no excuse.
