We thank you soooo much for this video as we can see that our 55 Viking Princess (EXCALIBUR) has survived and is still upright and seemingly undamaged. Tom K- thanks for making this drone footage available. Unfortunately I only got a fast glimpse of my power vessel but am greatful for you film. It appears my hatch over the bearth blew open but my cockpit canvas looks still intact. Go figure. We will see everyone on the long road to better days. God Bless.

Just saw your recent video, I am very sorry about the condition of your sail boat. Don't lose heart, she certainly looks salvageable with out a tremendous cost. Your mast, with such a defined break, looks like an aluminum sleeve will make it better than new. During your video you dwelt on our 52 Jefferson and I really appreciate seeing this view. We are fortunate in that other than a missing bridge deck locker door she looks intact. Thank you for your time and effort to provide video information to me and others who are at a considerable distance from the yard. I hope we have an opportunity to thank you personally over lunch or at least a beer.

I'm so sorry, man. That's really tough. I know our boats have souls, and we put a lot of love into them. Some may not understand the love for a boat. They carry us safely, and are our even our homes sometimes.

I have to say I found this quite moving. we don't get this sort of thing in the UK, well maybe once in a blue moon, and my heart goes out to those affected in any way or form by this, and any other , hurricane. The lack of post production added to the realism and therefore the emotion and shows respect for the subject matter and those suffering it. I hope your wait for parts will not be long yet I fear there will be significant supply problems with so many masts and specialized rigging components about to be ordered.

Pick your boat up with airbags to reduce damage. Fire departments have airbags and perhaps volunteer fire departments would be easier to lend you the bags.

I'm a boatie who has yet to have a boat, this makes me hurt inside. Life keeps me dry for now, im hoping to make it. Seeing this hurts.

My heartfelt prayers are with the people affected by this disaster. Yes boats can be repaired or replaced, but to have a quote "this sucks".

On the hard stand or in the sea.those boats had no chance. Hope fully they are all salvageable and insured.

I'm sorry for the loss of everyone's dreams but they can't be fixed just will take time. I own a boat slip in Wilmington and my renter thank God had no problems I have a slip in a hurricane Safe Harbor and my renter is a older guy with an older boat no problems I wish everyone had that luck. I wish everyone good luck with getting everything repaired and getting on with their lives.

Looking at this boatyard. In fiji in 1991 i was in a marina with dirt hardstand. They wanted 1,600.00 to build a cradle. Out of wood. I asked them to dig a hole for my keel. And we did. 50.00 thats what i did and now they do it like that for all mono hulls. This would have prevented a whole lot of pain. Since flooding was not a issue here. The boat yard that does this now is vuda point marina

There should be a requirement to pull the mast from any boat stored for the hurricane season. Extra tiedowns and sail removal for all others even for a short term in the yard. Sailors should know the effects of windage on their boats. Even short squalls are dangerous.

So sad to see such devastation. Is there much more than the mast and rigging lost? Can’t even imagine the cost of replacing that.

It seems that in a hurricane prone area a better design of "jack stand " could be developed . With the safety of your boat rested on a couple of pipe stands sitting on sand doesn't seem like it has a chance against a hurricane . Sorry for everyones loss .

Hi Tom (and fellow boat owners at Safe Cove who have gleaned quite a bit of info from your video and are leaving comments)... Since we are still unable to get any information whatsoever from Safe Cove, a month later, does anyone know anything further about being able to get in at some point? I really do understand the risks/liabilities Safe Cove has. But, on the other hand, I fear further damage is occurring to everyone's boats now because of the elements, mold, etc. We live on the west coast so we can't just go over in person every few days to try to figure out what's happening. Any ideas, Tom or anyone? Thank you!

Please dont get mad at me but some of those boats have a cover style frame over them. Were some of those boats ready on the land or did they have someone come in and start putting a cover over it. Was severely impacted by hurricane ike . It was a very similiar to IAN.i dont care what news people say here in texas. Ike was the worst to hit texas since the 1900 storm . Dear Sea Cowboy, meanwhile in Nova Scotia, people lost houses and lobster fishers lost their entire season due to the Fiona storm the army and navy have been helping others, and some had no insurance so be glad you can recover what you can.

I know this sucks but this has been happening as long as can remember and yet people act like it's a surprise, I don't understand. this is why I can not get affordable insurance.

Notice the catamarans do much better on the hard in these situations due to twin hulls being supported.

Roller Furling jibs and mains are a lot of unwanted windage. Why on Earth wouldn’t a person take them down in long term storage. True this certainly would not have made a significant difference in this case, but still.

Can't emphasize enough HURRICANE STRAPS....I am in Jacksonville, FL and pay for strapping when I am on the hard and hurricane season begins.

Thank you Sea Cowboy for this heart breaking video. I am so sorry for your broken mast. I hope the stands didn't pierce the hull. It was encouraging to see the number of boats that have been placed back on their stands already, and to see the hurricane straps back on. No work has been done on my boat, an Island Packet ITS A DREAM that is in the same row as yours, just closer to the road. Did you find out how they are deciding to move which boats? It looks like they were working in our row as your neighbor's boat has been removed. Was it moved because of the large hole? I was hoping that they might focus on more simple lifts first to help minimize more damage to boats. Oh well, not much I can do in Ohio. Again, I really appreciate the videos you have posted!

I feel sorry for many of those boat owners. But many of the boats that fell over appear to NOT have had the yellow straps. Am I wrong?

Do the straps down to stakes or weights help keep the boats from tipping over?

How do they fall over? Does the wind push them up and over the boat stands, or do the boat stands fail under the added loading?

Every thing is fixable its just how much money you got to throw at it.

Have you heard anything about j & r boat storage. I can't get any info. Would you possibly do a drone fly over there?

U could have done several videos by drone and ask for a donation, I'm mean how hard is it to use the drone. Help people they may have lost everything and their boat is all that's left.

No need to make comparisons as it’s all bad! Had it gone to Tampa bay as that was the projection I would have been wiped out! Already lost a home to Charlie in 2004!
