I am actually thankful that you didn't disparage those who couldn't evacuate. Yes, it is better for them to do so and safer. However, too many miss the fact that some literally CANNOT LEAVE. Whether it's for health, financial or transportation reasons. And millions have no where to go. Just want to thank you for that. Most other places are being disrespectful to the poor/disadvantaged who can't move out of the way of the hurricane. You didn't do that. And I applaud you for it. 🤗

@@ghostwalk2446 People who can't relate with/have never experienced poverty usually don't even notice/realize when they're disrespecting the poor. Usually people disrespect the poor accidentally, but that doesn't make it any less wrong because it shows that people don't consider how their messages effect people in different economic situations. When a news station says "Residents were told to evacuate, but many did not" you are implying that the people who stayed made the CHOICE to not listen to the warnings, when in reality they simply could not afford to. Implying those who could not afford to evacuate made a conscious choice to not obey warnings makes them look unintelligent and reckless. That's why it's important to acknowledge that some people just do not have the option.

There needs to be more legislation for 1. Insurance companies to insure fairly, and 2) build codes requirements and restrictions in flood zones. If you're going to build hotels and houses on the flat beach like that. What else do you expect when a hurricane comes. Anywhere on the beach in FL and the Atlantic up to NC and on the gulf coast can get hit by a hurricane. I am surprised if any of these hotels or houses are insured anymore. State farm stopped all new insurance requests anywhere near the beach in Mississippi, and now there is a named storm clause for all houses in the US.

I live in New Smyrna Beach which is on the east coast of Florida (about 20 miles south of Daytona Beach) and we got hit by Ian very hard because we got the northeast part of the storm so we had to deal with Ian for about two days because he was so big we had the rain and wind early on with the storm and we were one of the last to get rid of Ian as he crossed over Florida. Ian’s eye was just to the south of us in Brevard County so we just got absolutely pounded in rain and wind. We were still under tropical storm warnings after Ian moved out of Florida it was nuts. I didn’t think he was going to be so bad and we did get hurricane force winds for a good 24 or 36 hours before our warnings were changed from hurricane warnings to tropical storm warnings. NSB was flooded and in some homes they had water almost 5 feet deep. One man died after he fell at home and the water went over him and he drowned. We got over 20 inches of rain from Ian. Our ponds in our backyards (I live in a neighborhood with 3 streets and all of the townhouses have a pond in their backyards) turned into lakes and our streets turned into rivers. We have a lot of wildlife where I live which is the best feature of where we live and we had fish and turtles swimming down our streets and the ducks were swimming all over the place. I got video of an egret fishing for food in the streets. I hope and pray that’s it for the hurricanes this year because we don’t want a repeat of 2004 where we got blasted by 3 hurricanes in one summer (Charley, Francis, and Jean). The past two years have been awful with my dad dying last year and this year I lost a cousin, an aunt, and an uncle. My aunt and uncle were married to each other (my aunt was my dads sister) and when my aunt died we went to S Florida near Ft Lauderdale for the funeral and we got hit by a tropical storm with a lot of rain. My uncle died 2 weeks ago and we ended up with a major hurricane. Go figure! Hopefully that’s it for this year and I hope everyone can clean up and rebuild quickly. We got lucky that our home didn’t flood. It was due to where our place was and compared to most in our neighborhood we got very lucky as most had at least their porches flooded and many had their homes flooded. Most of New Smyrna I think ended up under water but thankfully it wasn’t as bad as Ft Myers.

@@Hborn I don’t know. I’m disabled and I live with my mother so I can try to save up money since I can’t work anymore and never will be able to again most likely. I live in FL so thankfully we don’t have state taxes here so if you are working you only pay federal. Also the rent depends if you want to live on the beach! I have no desire to be near the beach. I prefer the mountains to be honest but I moved to be with mom after my ex and I split plus my dad lived 1 city away. He died on 02/23/21.

*1 of 4* Cities can eliminate homeless tent encampments by replacing them with *Homeless Shelter Villages* [HSV] using _Pallet Shelter's_ existing *Homeless Shelter Village* [HSV] components. The _Community Room_ sells for $37,000 and serves as a shared laundry room, restaurant, *child daycare center,* and addiction services center. The _Bathroom_ cost $35,000 and the _Services Office_ costs $9,000. So for only $81,000 a city can establish a *Homeless Shelter Village* [HSV]. The 10'X10' *Camping Cube Sport Pop Up Tent* that costs only $120 provides protection from the elements; for two people and their belongings.

it is not such a good idea to dismiss the hurricane as being over with, the central pressure suggests the storm is weakened, it is growing again with having returned to open water. Round 2 anyone?

At a time when Floridians need all the good will they can get, DeSantis has just positioned himself as a petty, heartless villain to many Americans. Someone who is all about stunts for political gain and media attention. You have real problems that need solving, governor.
