Another great vid, Walt! I converted my 394 several years back. I actually found online a conversion kit you could purchase that had the 2 longer bolts for the cylinder, the rubber/round intake boot and clamp, firewall to match, and it came with a nipple for the 394 carb to convert it. It had detailed directions how to drill with a template to show exactly where to drill for the new impulse nipple. Directions said to use a same amount of super glue when installing the nipple, and it worked like a champ. I did the same as you and measured the throat of the carb and saw the 394 carburetor was larger so I did the impulse nipple conversion. Mine runs great and has for many years now. No issues from doing that conversion. The new cylinder you bought I think is called, Titan-Nikel. If I understand correctly from what I’ve read online about those cylinders that are supposed to be coated with a mixture of Nikasil and Titanium on the cylinder wall. I’ve also read they were extremely hard and difficult to cut on with a carbide burr. I’ve not tried them so I’m curious to see how it does for you. Thanks for the vids and keep’em coming.

I've always liked the 394 more then the 395. 394 makes more power, the way they make their power seems more usable. I think it's the shorter intake runner that create that. The Titanickle cylinders that have been on my bench have been quality. I don't usually grind them as the plating is very hard. Can't wait to see how this works out.

Really enjoyed this video Walt. It was great to see this old 394 revived. I wouldn't worry about the 1/4-20 cylinder bolts they will serve ya well, I remember back when snowboards first came about and seeing some testing on different bolts sae vs metric to hold the bindings on to withstand the impact, 1/4"-20 rules used to be a promo for the higher quality bindings. My middle brother was a pro snow boarder and had "1/4"-20 rules" posted on his wall ;) I like what ya did with the carb and look forward to seeing this BB Hyway cylinder really put to the test.👍

I've had good luck w 660 bb titan cylinders..been running 2 for couple years milling... one ..great numbers n beautiful cylinder w nice shapes..both run great but 2nd one was definitely different mold as intake and exhaust shapes are rounded on one n squared on the other..my only not ported 660s as I wanted to run them as is n they're pretty stoudt.. heard that plating flaked after grinding also..think tinman had good luck porting one n can't remember if it's still alive..thanks for sharing walt!!

Titanium-nickel. “Titan-nickel” is how they are pronouncing it… their spelling is a little off… you were wise to not grind it… it’s diamond burrs only!!! And it definitely flake’s… they wrap that lining into your exhaust port window and that leaves that hard brittle edge… if it’s super hot that ring catching that corner will flake off a super hard chunk and whip out the topend!! I remove those corners I’ve lost 4 to that!

Great pro tip on keeping the plastic screws in place. I always wondered why not take that handle off... Until I stripped the threads out of the plastic. Any fix for stripped plastic threads?

You can drill out where the bigger circle in the centre and put n a elbow and seal it off it works well. It’s sad to see a 394 cylinder gone even if it’s old technology they put the same horse power as the new 592. Looking forward to see what the new cylinder runs like. Cheers everyone.

when tightening the squish would you say the compression gained is more of a power adder? or the fact that you get more fuel/ air into the combustion chamber to burn?

I would like to rebuild my 394 and I don’t want to convert it to a 395. Id rather buy a 395. Probably a blue one, unless Hollzforma will make it orange. 🙏
