Husqvarna 450 Starts Hard But Runs Great

Theres a lot of reasons a chainsaw might start hard and many of those are fuel related. What about a saw that runs perfect after you finally get it started. Watch for one big clue that can tip you off as to where your problems really lie.

Does husquvarna have a special way to put the cover back on over the chain? I’m having a hard time putting it back on after cleaning it . I’ve had an echo all my life and just got this one

I suspect the chain brake is applied and needs to be reset. I don't think I have a video on the procedure but I'm sure there are a lot out there if you search "chain brake reset".

Good information! Any ideas on how to stop bar oil from leaking out when saw is not in use?

Sadly, the best way to stop oil from leaking out of a 450 Husky is to follow the owners manual and drain the tank. I see a lot of leakers and I usually seal the oil feed hose to the case.

How about a video on connecting rod play at the crank. I know up and down should be tight but what about side to side play, what I mean is if you center the connecting rod on the crank and move the top end of the rod back and forth what is acceptable play and what is worn out. I think some call it wobble. It’s on a husky 350. Just trying to learn. Thank you, love the jokes

I am an employee that is allowed to hit the record button while at work. No pre planned video or any other waste of company time is involved. Thats why you see an insert of me narrating from home. Just bought this saw brand new 450 rancher and it works great the only thing is it idles really low speed. I don't like that yes im running there pre-mix fuel so its not that, now I do live at 2500 ft so wondering if that has anything to do with it ?

If you just bought it from a dealer you should take it back to the dealer for a carb adjustment. If you have never made a carb adjustment before well then I'm not sure what you're gonna do. I don't have a carb adjustment video to refer you to.

I've got a 460 that starts fine cold, but is hard to start when hot. I don't see a video on that. Maybe I missed it. Any help would be appreciated.

Two things need to be addressed. First, does the cylinder have any scoring. Scoring and a hot piston are an almost sure way to pinch a ring in a piston groove and lower compression. Second, make sure to prime some cool fuel from the tank through the carb and then use the fast idle feature when warm starting.

Does it pull hard with the spark plug removed? Does the chain turn when pulling the cord?

Then look in the cylinder and check for scoring or carbon buildup. Maybe check the spark arrestor screen too.

@@TheGreasyShopRag Ok, so I took the exhaust off, and the piston has like 3 vertical stripes on it, the cylinder was not too bad, but it had a few marks - does this mean I need a new cylinder and piston?
