Don't be so fast with your assumptions if your saw won't start

Not trying to be rude, but 32:1 mix is why the saw had to much carbon, resulting in plug problem. Glad you got it figured out and running. It takes some time, but with a restricted stock exhaust a heavy oil mix will eventually show it's downside.

This particular saw was purchased in the late 80's and has had nothing but 32:1 mix through it since it was new, it is tuned just a little rich but that is how I tuned it. This is the first issue I've had with this saw, I think that's a pretty good run.

Sir your idle speed is more than it should be.
@elevationaxesaw5136
@elevationaxesaw5136 2 жыл бұрын
It's either an idle adjustment that needs to be made, a very weak clutch (which is common on these saws that have cut a bunch of wood and weaken over time), or a big air leak somewhere on the saw. If you have the ability to pressure/vac test, you could rule out the worst scenario right off the bat.

I keep at least two new spark plugs in my saw bag at all times. When I recently put a new fuel line and new air filter in my 575, it would start and idle but it would die if you tried any throttle. I had put a new NGK plug in it while I had it apart that turned out to be bad right out of the box. Plugs can fool you with spark at idle yet still not be up to the task for higher heats. I put another new plug in and the saw ran flawlessly. Just goes to show a good mechanic must stick to the basics and never be fooled by new parts or the smallest of details like carbon fouling.

Southeastern Ohio Honeybees You my friend are 100% right, its way to easy too OVER THINK the issue at hand. You should always start with the basics. I too have had spark plugs be bad right out of the box. You also need to make sure your using the proper plug with the correct gap, and the OE plug should be a non-resistor style plug. The plug in this saw is the original plug that was installed from the factory. This is literally the first thing done to this saw besides the bar & chain being replaced. Thanks for commenting.

I agree with what you Almost 100%, But in this case if you watch close enough the only thing I done was remove the very small piece of carbon that was bridging the gap of the spark plug, So with this being the only issue that is why I reused the original spark plug to the saw. And yes it is still running on that plug.

I would pull the muffler off and check the piston and cylinder for scoring making sure to look into the cylinder, if that checks out ok I would give it a shot of 2 cycle mix into the carb while holding the throttle open to see if it will pop/run a couple seconds. Could also be a fuel delivery issue with the carb. Check the pulse line and intake boot for tears or holes causing a leak. Good luck

How about putting a new plug in it? A carbon build up tells me that you are running to rich of a mixture. It also looks like it is running a tad rich. I would replace the plug and add a little seafood to the tank to clean up the carbon build up in the saw.

This saw I purchased brand new in 1991 that's 28 years of running 32:1 mix and this is the very first issue I've had with this saw, i will take that every day of the week, for years this was the only saw I had and it has put many cords of fire wood on the truck over them years, as seen in the video I removed the carbon and reinstalled the original plug back into the saw and it is still running on all the original parts. I do run my work saws just a tad on the rich side for just a little extra lubes and cooling, I tach tune to 500 to 1000 rpm's under max for my work saws. I don't use seafoam but I will use MM Oil.

@@craigtimmons3468 It is obvious. Haven't read the user manual? Information about making the mixture is on page 26 (For the best results use HUSQVARNA two-stroke oil, which is especially developed for chain saws. Mixing ratio 1:50 (2%))

@@Magdusia2003 It would seem that you are a sales person for Husqvarna, FYI Most all 2 cycle oil is designed for chainsaws if they are 2 stroke engines, granted some far better than others but still designed for 2 cycle chainsaw engines. And you are 100% wrong I have read the Owners Manual I read all my owner manual's, and yes you are right it does call for a 50:1 mix ratio which is needed to meet the emissions standards set forth by the EPA for that model year of saw. I for 1 don't like to operate anything without enough oil and that is why I mix at 32:1, a spark plug is a lot cheaper than a new saw, and as stated this saw is now pushing 30 years old and this was literally the very first major issue I had with the saw. A 30 year old spark plug cleaned and reinstalled and still running, how can you find fault with anything I'm doing based on this? Please answer 1 question, How many 50, 51, 55 series saw have been burnt up due to lack of oil? When you answer this then you can judge me for my actions.

32.1 mix gas is too rich 50.1with high test gas is what should be use thats why there carbon build up.
@craigtimmons3468
@craigtimmons3468 4 жыл бұрын
Please Explain why 32:1 is to rich and why I should run 50:1? Running Hi-Test fuel in an engine that isn't designed for Hi-Test fuel actually will make less power than running 89 octane fuel. Remember this the higher the octane rating the SLOWER the fuel burn this is to avoid detonation that will destroy the piston. So because it looks like you did not read my other replies this happened when the saw was 28 years old having nothing but 32:1 run through it and this was the very first issue I have had with this saw, it was still the original spark plug which I just cleaned and reinstalled. 50:1 is an EPA push to meet the emissions limits so I'll ask this again would you drive your vehicle down the road with only 1 qt of oil? I bet not. So why run your 2 cycle equipment with an oil mix that could cause way more damage due to lack of lubrication internally versus just a piece of carbon bridging the gap of the plug after 28 years of service? Scored piston & cylinder or carbon take your pick.
