Great dancing by all! I’m a ballroom teacher with 46 years experience Love the hustle been dancing it and teaching it since the 70’s (I’m 66). Anyone who loves the music and the dance should think about joining a dance studio! We do Hustle all the time! Just danced it last night in fact, at an outdoor dance picnic! Great disco and ballroom music! It’s never to late to start dancing! It will be great if you do! 💃🏻🕺🌺

We need to bring this music and festivals back. Calling all promoters to start the revival for the new and older generations to enjoy this again. I never lived through those times. I was born in the 70s but too young to really enjoy and appreciate it. But I always remember hearing these songs. I'm going to start promoting this myself and getting some disco dance parties going with those soul train lines too. What a cool and fun looking era

It has some similarities to salsa. It's because it was invented by Puerto Ricans. in the South Bronx the original name was called the Latin Hustle. Which is still going strong today?👍🇵🇷

The name of the second song is "That What Love Does" by The Vince Montana Orchestra featuring William "Smoke" Howard. Vince was an orchestra leader, producer, songwriter, arranger and the best vibe player in the world. In 1967 he helped set up Sigma Sound Studios, in his native Philadelphia, where he worked with Gamble & Huff and Thom Bell. He is probably best known as a founder member of MFSB, and THE founder of The Salsoul Orchestra and Salsoul Records. He played on and arranged tracks by The Intruders, The Delfonics, The Spinners, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, The O'Jays, The Trammps, Eddie Kendricks, William DeVaughn, Billy Paul, Lou Rawls, The Stylistics, Teddy Pendergrass, and many others. I Dj'd in Boston Clubs for 25 years and ended every night with the 2nd half of Vince's song "You Know How Good It Is".

I've never seen NY Hustle performed like this and all the arms. Sad music and dance is becoming a lost art. Back in the day we danced in 4 inch heels and beautiful dresses. 😢
@Eyeris6255 жыл бұрын
You need to go to the hustle parties that still exist in NY and NJ. Everything is there.. high heels, low heels, dressed up, dressed down... but always lots of fun and happy...very happy

So sad dance for dance, not dancing because the music moves you, they´re so young to catch it as we did back then.

They couldn't even be bothered to dress up for it? How sad!
@jorgeluispadron91564 жыл бұрын
@@PAGAN19 You have reason in part. But manteining the hustle dance and disco music live is the must important. And this actual generation could compare the crap they listen today that they call music with this real gem that Disco is.
@missapril19564 жыл бұрын
@@Eyeris625 This is a summer event, and often quite hot, so I don't dress up as much as I would like to. This teacher did another dance demo in 2019, that is more choreographed with better outfits. The dancers are students, not professionals.

Someone commented that "this is like Salsa"! And they are right and IT SHOULDN'T BE, since they are two totally different dances with different rhythm, steps, music and customs! Problem is, a lot of people soimetimes cannot distinguish one from the other, since they have lost the "feel" of what New York Hustle is and of course, do not even disitnguish from this to West Coast Swing, Jive, Lindy, SHag, Balboa, etc. Great dances but few people practicing them!!!

I have a question as someone that dances mambo. What timing do hustle dancers use? Cause I know for mambo our break step is on the 2 and 6 beat on a 8 beat measure. So I am curious as to how the timing on the hustle works? Wonderful video though and the dancers are very graceful.

Avery You are wrong! That is Hustle. I was one of he first Hustledancers in New York. Started doing the hustle back in 1971. The dance went through many changes and variations. The 3 count NY ustle is what these couples are doing. The dance started on the streets of Manhattan, The South Bronx and areas in Brooklyn. It was first done in the Gay community and later caught on in the various NYC Disco clubs. It spread to all segments of the population and eventually went worldwide.
@jimm24345 ай бұрын
That’s definitely not the Hustle. The Hustle is from the 1970’s. It was not a couples style dance in any sense of the word. No it’s nothing like Salsa. I know because I can dance the Hustle. Van McCoy’s - track called The Hustle is the song you need to hear & then watch SoulTrain or watch Saturday Night Fever to learn the Dance Moves for the Hustle.

A message for the gentleman that was the 3rd couple that danced..... You are the frame, she is the picture. Everything that you do is to show her off & I saw nothing but you with her practically standing there trying not to look stupid because you were to busy showing off to lead her. A message to the lady, if you felt silly in any way..... PLEASE DON'T!!!! Anyone who knows anything about dancing, they will see exactly what I just described & will see it's not you, it is him all the way!!!
