Hustler dash review

I am reviewing the hustler dash and accessories. Bagger kit add on video to come later.
As I mention in the video. I had a hard time finding info on this machine and/or the accessories and wanted to make this video for those looking for a little more info when considering this purchase.
Please leave any questions below. Sorry for the armature video. I’m not a KZfaq video editor.

I have ordered a 34" Dash XD, because I wanted the larger Kawasaki 15HP engine. Hustler definitely makes a robust mower. The frame and deck are welded and fabricated, not stamped. I am looking forward to it's delivery.

You bought the cheaper version. I have a hustler dash 34" with the Kawasaki engine much stronger and better, i use it for my lawn business and have zero complaints. As far as you using a walk behind mower to go around the fence using a weedeater is much better.

You bought a Dash HD? Different mower. Bought this when it just came out. That model was not available. Weed eating would take way to long instead of me making one pass with the push mower. When I do edge, like once every 2-3 mows, I weed eat.

To be honest, I think hustler should include the back plate. I had the first series hustler raptor with the kawasaki 23hp motor and I was stupid for getting rid of it.

Kawasaki is the best engine for a mower hands down. They are strong and very reliable, they've kept me in business for 23 years.

The 10.5 hp 344 cc 22.75 NM torque Briggs and Stratton engine is under power for a 34 inch especially for mulching thick grass i wouldn't recommend. The new model Hustler XD Dash 34 inch comes with Kawasaki FR541V 15.1 hp 603 cc 39.1 NM torque V-Twin, OHV engine. For a 42 inch you really need a 22 hp V-Twin, engine. There is nothing worse than an under power engine when it comes to grass cutting.

Agreed. Now that I know what I know. But the mower is pretty good over all for just a basic mower

Thanks for that info. I was gonna purchase this but was wondering about the power. Crazy, My old school IH cub cadet with 44” deck and 10hp kohler, you can’t hardly bog that thing down.

What's the round part that is above the fuel filter that is connected to it? Mine it's leaking oil from it

I've got one and I hate the Briggs engine. I got a great deal on mine, though. The Briggs has a cam issue: the lobes are pressed on. It's not a one piece milled cam. I'm selling mine before that happens and getting a Big Dog Alpha 36 inch. As you say, you can trim a little Betty with it

Good video!! I am wanting to buy this mower and my question is my yard gate is 37.5 inches wide and I can see online the specs say this mower is 37.5 with the chute. Do you think if i remove the grass chute like you did it will fit through my gate?

Thanks! So I have the original chute off. Use the small chute that came with the bagger. Just fits in my 36 inch shed door. No issue though with taking it off permanently. Has crossed my mind some times.

Hey! Thanks for making the video on your dash. You are right, there is nothing online about them! Do you still wish you had at a bigger deck? I’m similar to you, the 34” would fight in my gate no problems, but I like the idea of a bigger deck to get closer to obstacles. But then I would have to make a bigger gate (my gate is 44”)

No problem. If I could do it all over again I would have gotten the 42. But I am still very happy with this mower. I have a toro 21inch push more for edging. And I don’t mind. It works out great in my areas in the yard that the hustle 34 inch can’t get to. So all in all my scenario it’s great

@@rkingslandjr83 I already own a 21 Ego push mower, so I think I will probably go with a similar setup to you and get the 34" dash XD. I really like the idea of having the small size for storage in my garage.

@@beardofsteve can’t go wrong with the XD. They didn’t have that when I bought mine. I bought my hustler dash when it was first released

Have you ever had issues with getting yours to start? I think it might be a safety switch issue…but I haven’t seen any videos regarding this issue with the Hustler Dash. And I can’t see the safety switches. Do you know where they are???

Yes. Spark plug wire came lose off of the spark plug. Try pulling it off to see if it comes off to easy. Then push back on hard

How big are you? Wondering if I'd be comfortable on a dash xd at 6'1"

I’m 5’7”. I think you’ll be fine on the dash or dash XD. Hopefully you can sit on one near you before you purchase. Good luck!

@@rkingslandjr83 thanks! I have 1.5 acres with about 100 trees planted on each side of 900ft of chain link fence. So I need something with a small footprint. Thinking the Dash XD with the 48" deck might allow me to replace my 60" tractor as my primary mower. I just put the fence in so the big tractor doesn't fit between the trees and the fence anymore.

@@bryantolson8430 Cub Cadet rzt s 48 inches fuel injected 25 hp kohler engine zero turn manoeuvrability and steering wheel control. Perfect for hilly terrain.
