I got up before sunrise on Friday and went an hour south from Ottawa then west to Brockville. Then continued west of Mallorytown on HWY 2. I took a sleepy little gravel road (Hutcheson) north to a bridge that passed over a triple track main line between Toronto and Montreal. The sun came through the fog and a pleasant blue sky day lay ahead. This is an interesting place to test my skills and camera with backlight photography. I like backlit photos as it works well with trains. The rail cars present interesting shadows and it also reduces the reflected glare from the car sides. Especially passenger equipment. I stayed in one location and the sun moved clockwise around me from south east to north west. The track was on an east west plain. Stayed there until the Golden Hour. I also experimented with three auto settings for focus, Regarding the other settings most was shot in manual mode. Played with different ISO, AV and TV set before the train arrived. The headlights play havoc and I had to pick a focus point just beside the front of the train so it would not go wonkey. I tried to stay with ISO 200, AV 7.1 and TV 1/500. My eyes are just not great for manual focus. I use a Canon Rebel T3i with a 55-250 stabilizer. The movie was made with Windows Photo Story 3 and Movie Maker.
