Steaming Holes Golf Course!!!!! Inspired, I am not a golfer, but I would go there! I love Ice cream in cold weather, lots of nice calories to keep warm, and it does not melt so easily. The ice cream could be sold in large golf ball shapes at the steaming holes golf course. Outstanding photography as usual. It is some of the best I have ever seen. You have a fantastic talent for lighting and framing, along with great drone skills. Well done.

Thanks for this one, especially. It brought back great memories of a visit there. We went in the library where the 'great crack' is visible beneath the perspex floor panel. We were also 'treated' to a trip in the earthquake shed, standing incongruously to one side amid the bookcases. I can't recall now whether it simulated a 5 or 6 m earthquake which had occurred in the region. Even though we knew it was a simulation and that nothing could fall on us, standing in the dark and hearing it rushing up like a giant express train before it actually hit, was terrifying. So I think I'll pass on the real thing. I am very sorry to hear, though, that Eden burned down. It was a fascinating place, and to see bananas growing to fruition was mind-boggling.

HAhahahaha! We love ice cream in the winter too! We have several local shops that sell as much ice cream in December as they do in July. Idaho is fairly geologically active. Most counties have at _least_ one geothermal feature. There are several businesses in southern Idaho that farm Tilapia - a fairly tropical fish.

Beautiful video, beautiful town! Hveragerði is definitely known for ice cream. The last time we went to Ísbúðin Okkar, all four of us had different ice creams, and we all got heavy stomach pain about 45 minutes after eating it. When we arrived back in Reykjavik, we ran to the toilet as quickly as possible. I must admit, it tasted good... 🤣

The green houses must be very well constructed. An ordinary green house wouldn’t last long in an area that has frequent earthquakes. Everything looks pristine there. I live in north of Ireland and our main country roads are filthy with litter. Every time I lift litter off the road where I live. There will be litter there the next day. Shows how the people there respect their environment. Enjoying the virtual tours of your country.👍

This was nice to see, especially because I have been there and hiked up Reykjadalur. I remember being in some shopping centre in Hveragerdi and there was some corner which looked like a kitchen with smashed plates on the floor and all, and at first I thought: what a mess is this? Before I quickly realized it was some sort of Earthquake rememberance museum :)

I travelled on the bus on the road no1 all around Iceland in the summer of1996, stayed in this town, had icecream, went to eden, where I left one of my glass beads that I used to make amongst the bananas, it was a very quiet place then... always wanted to come back and plant some trees on your island, after hearing about the danish ladies that brought trees and the botanical gardens to Akurery..... best hostel was in Osar with Knutur... my favourite swimming pool was near there

Totally brilliant, as usual, thank you very much! Several points; would you know where the power stations are planned to go that will be feeding the undersea cable down to the UK? Also, suggest your public transport people take a visit to Switzerland and see how they transport people safely in the worst conditions possible up and down mountains using electricity and have been doing since the late 1800's!

I know this mountain pass very well, was driving the highway coming from Selfoss and heading to Reykjavik in December 2017 ... during a snowstorm ... coming from northern germany i know what the combination of snow and wind can do, but what i experienced there was a whole different category. Coming up that mountain pass i had to use my satnav to anticipate the corners and the wind was so strong it made a fine dust out of the snow which that was lingering in the air like a white blanket of sorts. Visibility was like 2meters, and thats it. I appreciate the design of the road though, which makes a noise when you get too far to the side, that also helped a lot. Cheers from germany

Sometimes the only sane thing to do IS to say "She'll be right mate!" as we do almost daily here in Australia. 😁 On that golf course do the balls get ejected by steam every time you putt one in? . . . that would make it an infinity Par golf course. 🤣 I liked the idea that you could grow bananas in Iceland, how novel but I don't suppose it would be a viable business option? There is nothing wrong when you have a power plant neat the volcano. However, if the volcano destroys it, it would be nice to have a backup plan. You do not want to deal with an eruption, evacuation, and building a new power plant at the same time. No power makes everything difficult.

Aw, I wish I knew that Hveragerthi was known for its ice cream back when I stayed there for a workcamp. :( Despite my two visits to iceland I haven't tasted icelandic ice cream before. That I need to catch up on on my eventual third visit :D Suprised you didn't talk about the Geothermal park in the town centre. Granted, imo the entry fee smells like a scam. But there is an amusing story surrounding it I hoped you could confirm since I can't find anything about it online anymore: The people of Hveragerthi once used to throw their trash into one of the holes in what is now the geothermal park. After an earthquake, a small geysir at this spot got active and spewed the trash all over the town.

I think it's mostly the greenhouse business that benefits from the nearby hot springs but houses in Iceland are mostly built from concrete, with lots of iron so they can handle earthquakes well, but most of the damage is inside after such events...
