HW97 Compression Tube Buttoning

We're moving on to buttoning the compression tube. It is case hardened from the factory. I show how to get through the case hardening and mill pockets for the buttons. I also talk a little about why I position the buttons the way I do. Hope you enjoy. Many Thanks For Watching!

You are welcome! I'll ad more in a future video. There are two reasons for buttons on the front of pistons in barrel cocking rifles. I'll do another short one. Stay tuned! (Pun Intended)

Pistons are different on a barrel cocking rifle. They operate as load bearing and sealing. I'll go into further detail on a later video.

Makes cocking smoother but the piston is pretty free floating without buttons , on firing

Yes, I prefer using a coated OSG. I'm out of them right now. The OSG end mills will usually go through the case on several tubes before I have to resort to grinding.

Y dou just make a inter tube to compensate for buttons

You clamped it in a vise cross-wise, and machined it, then say "it's not perfectly round"... Don't you think it would have been better to clamp it end-to-end, with a support beneath it? Harder maybe, but then it wouldn't go out of round...

It's not perfectly round from the factory. The amount of pressure I'm using to hold it is very minimal and not what is causing it to be out of round.
