It's all about timing. Recently the South Korean population started to like Jessi's style (her voice, her music, her vibe, and just being herself as opposed to getting molded into a typical Kpop artist like the comment above mine said), and because her sound is considered trendy, she's gaining all that popularity. It's a combination of things. You could say - "yes finally" - but it's not like Jessi is a great singer or dancer. She is neither. It's just the whole package that people finally started to like (they started to accept Jessi as she is). I'm happy for Jessi. She's very unique both on and off stage. She's getting more gigs outside of the music business too: regular variety show appearances, has her own show - she's just popular overall now. I wish her all the best

So the other girls do not represent real women? Empower one, empower the other. They've all worked hard, for their own craft whether cutesy, badass, girl pop, bubblegum pop, or whatever the fuck that is, and there are different types of women in this world with different types of personalities. For you to want "some" to be on the top instead of others does not make sense to me, sorry. True empowerment should be happiness for being who you are and what you do, where people can let you be who you want to be and does not want you to be anything else but yourself. Go women!

@@catnoodles0212 I do agree with you on the aspect of different styles and personalities. However, I don’t think they meant it as a disrespect to belittle other kpop groups. I’m sure you know Korea is a homogeneous society that somewhat frowns upon or ridicule any type of diversity and includes the K-pop industry as well. It’s a very shallow thing to say but about 70-75% of the requirements are solely based on one’s outer appearance(ex, face/height/skin tone/age) which give others that look somewhat different an unfair advantage. Beautiful and cute females/ males, based on Korean standards, get popular and recognized faster with their appearance alone. Add some talent and the popularity goes up even more lol. I’m sure they work hard too but girls like Hwasa or Jessie or anyone that don’t fit the outer appearance of Korean standards will have to work twice as hard with their talents alone and still get treated like sh*t to get any type of positive recognition. It’s the sad truth. Hwasa is very beautiful in my opinion but if she was just a mediocre singer she wouldn’t have made it this far. Looks will fade but real talent will always triumph.....well at least in the US😅
