There are some more areas to look for corrosion: The body is mounted to the frame at 8 points. The mounting points at the very front under the head lights are okay most of the times, so are the mounting points at the very back. But the mounting points located ca. under the pedals and on the passenger side are rusted very often. The other mounting points are located in front of the rear wheels. These are rusted almost on every Sidekick/Tracker/Vitara/Escudo.

Street legal side by side. Mine's a 1990. Manuel shift. Manual hubs. Red/black. Very capiable off road (stock). Reliable as hell but easy to fix any issues out there if you need. Gets down those tight trails without all the extra pin striping. Best in town runabout for fuel, parking, ... and climbing the odd curb. Removable top is cool. I always leave my hard shell (rear & driver sections) sections on then cruise with the driver/passenger section either on or off on a whim. This piece slips in behind either set of seats easily. I use my big pickup for the big stuff and use this little guy for all the rest. Always get offers to sell it ... monthly if not weekly at times ... kinda says it all. Great video👍🏻

you forgot the most rust prone section of these vehicles. The rear section where the plastic bumper meets the metal panel and that section of the rear wheel well just slightly back of 90 degrees. That section tends to rust right out and looks just fine from the outside. Same thing with the front bumper where it meets the fender.

My rockers were gaping open, I filled them with spray foam and actualy put the plastic trim on. Bashed them on some stumps, solid as hell. You also gotta check the rear body mounts in front of the back tire too. 8v valve cover gaskets leak when old. The rear speakers were rotten on both of my trackers.

They like to rust in the firewall and where the bonnet hinges are as well… as well as the front pillars and in the door hinges to the point where the doors will fall off… and in the boot under the bracket that screws over the carpet too … and on the hardtop ones they rust from the inside out where the window washer is just above the back door because washer fluid gets trapping in the top sill and cant get out

If you are looking at an 8valve(samurai same deal) check the #4 cylinder compression, they like to burn the exhaust valve! I haven't seen a sidekick or tracker with crank windows that work well! Just take the doors off to fix that! Also if you put the 2" body lift and you wheel it hard, don't be surprised if all 8 body studs rip out(ask me how I know) but you can just weld in plates and then put bolts thru.

There's a really cute 1990 Geo Tracker listed on my local Craigslist. 98,000 miles, $4,200. It doesn't appear to have any rust problems based on the pictures but I wouldn't necessarily be able to tell whether or not they just painted over it or something. I know next to nothing about cars and can't tell if it's in legitimately good condition for a good price. 😩

Hey man I know you probably get this a lot and might not have time to respond but it’s worth a shot. I have a MINT 1998 Chevy Tracker 4x4 with only 70,xxx miles it has a big sentimental value to me as it was my fathers last vehicle. I hardly drive it because I want to fully restore it. It’s bone stock and no rust runs amazing with the exception of one thing. P0740. It’s the 3 speed automatic 3L30. Mechanics where I live are not very trustworthy unfortunately. I’m tired of just throwing parts at it. I NEED TO FIX THIS! please let me know if you could be of any assistance or if you have time. Love your videos man I would absolutely love to meet you some day! Keep TRACKIN! MIL @ 47 mph Edit: got any manual trannys for sale? 🤔 Also.. are you hiring?

I sheet metal screwed the tin 'floor pan' in mine and the fuel tank is held up with cam straps over the frame as the front mounts are gone. You did forget to mention the fuel filler tube, where the body fastens to it. The rear wheel throws crap up and it just sits there.

These vehicles are part time 4wd. Do NOT put the transfer case into 4wd, lock the hubs, and then drive on a dry surface., whether on your ‘test drive’ or if you own it. You MUST be on a surface where one of the wheels can slip
