IT'S ALREADY 2024 BUT I STILL CAN'T GET OVER FROM THIS MASTERPIECE

As a person who writes based on observations I can see that mingyu and wonwoo loved a girl who were their friend. They imagined their hangouts with the girl as dates. When they finally decided to confess to her, we can see from the lyric "eyes meeting but hearts apart so sweet and so bitter" that the girl see's them as her friend and likes their friendship and nothing else. This obviously breaks their heart. As in the last scene we can see that they moved on from her and happy with each other. Most of the people think that rain indicates sadness, its actually used to represent the last step of clearing your mind from something that hurt/bothered you or your life. (I was rewatching this mv almost 18 times to write this) Edit: i think..I'm wrong but everyone has their own point of view

the fact that i'm just starting to get to know seventeen and decided that my biases are mingyu and wonwoo and only to find out about this masterpiece that they both made? the amazing vocals, the stunning visuals, the emotion packed cinematography, and the lyrics that hold so much meaning in their friendship and love. okay, im sold they stole my heart big time! they got a new carat here!

Note that they are svt's lead rappers but their vocals are no joke.

my analysis: the running scene means they are having crush on her. but see, mingyu is always behind. till they stop, wonwoo and the girl smile but mingyu not. if u notice too, gyu's scene is almost in the dark and his stares are always painful. it means that mingyu has (felt) lost at all. the scene in bar, i think, it shows the conflict of this friendship. I noticed from the cinematic style, it's just lagging and shaking and also their staring is full of pain. 💔 in the scene wonwoo gives a hat to mingyu and also smile, it indicates that, mingyu doesn't lose. no one lose. wonwoo chooses mingyu over the girl, i mean he chooses friendship over the girl. and they get along together anymore. from the back we can see, they are in the deep friendship. then, mingyu initiates first to walk in the rain. and look at his big smile. he feels better. they feel better after releasing their dilemma. 🤍

I love how this song gives a comfort vibe with a little melancholy....really loved it

As Wonwoo sings in the first lines: "One you (the girl) and two moons (the boys)", there are three friends: two males and a girl. At a certain point the two guys starts falling in love with her. But she prefers Wonwoo over Mingyu, and you can tell by the fact that she gave his hat to Wonwoo (there is no scene where she gives her hat to him but, after 0:48 you see at 1:43 the hat is the same), and also by comparing the way she stares at Wonwoo (smiling and 'flirting') at 0:48 and the way she stares at Mingyu (quite coldly) at 0:32. Meanwhile, the boys are afraid to hurt each other feelings despite the love they both have for the girl. In particular, Wonwoo is the closest to the female and he knows that she feels something for him too. He initially sings: "I can't get closer, I'm sorry I'm like this", expressing he'd like to be more than just friends with her but he knows that Mingyu would suffer from this. Later, he cites a "Touch of a season passed-by", because in his heart he knows he wants to choose the girl (at 1:10 it seems like he's almost ready to confess to her while listening the same music) and he's thinking that his friendships would be a season passed-by if he picks the girl over Mingyu. It would be a season passed-by both referred to the relationship with Mingyu in a sad way (because they wouldn't be friends anymore) and to the relationship with the girl in a good way (because after the end of their friendship they'd become lovers). Then Wonwoo says: "I stand still before you (Mingyu), bеfore me", concluding "I'm okay, not okay" because, after imagining how things would change if he picks her, he still can't decide between friendship and relationship. Also the girl is hesitant: when she sings "Eyes meeting (hers and those of Wonwoo) but hearts apart" you can really get the feeling of having someone you like but not being possible to show it because someone (Mingyu) could suffer from this. She and Wonwoo share in this sense the same situation: their hearts are both apart, divided between each other and Mingyu. In all this, Mingyu has already given up: he seems more like a second lead indeed, also his figure and his scenes being blurred or obscured suggest this. Moreover, his surrendering eyes at the beginning (0:26) while looking at the girl express this. He knows very well that the girl likes Wonwoo instead of him, and by saying "Hiding the truth, pretending I'm fine" he wants to express the fact that he's willing to sacrifice his love to see his friends happy (since they both like each other). And when he sings: "I want an answer that I don't think I can find" he's probably thinking about the future: if Wonwoo (and also the girl) will stay friends with him even after becoming a couple. Of course this scenario hurts him and by telling: "I want the next thing", he's screaming that he's tired of all this and wants to move on. He repeats to himself that demanding the girl's love, that he cannot have ("If I give my hand and expect your heart"), would be too selfish of him and would only raise the distance between the three of them. He's trying not to think about them but it's hard, he says "Ruinous imagination consumes me" indeed ('ruinous imagination' is about him both dreaming of being the girl's boyfriend and thinking about Wonwoo and the woman becoming a couple). All of this makes him "Dream sweeter dreams", since he wants to focus his mind on something else. In the meantime Wonwoo is still stuck in his decision: "I close my eyes but thoughts of you (Mingyu) bring turmoil to night, to you (the girl) and me, real and dreamy". He knows that the feelings he and the girl have for each other are real but dreamy at the same time since they're not fully expressed, because there's Mingyu between them. The turning point of the story is when Wonwoo make up his mind after hesitating so much (1:32): right when we thought he would choose the girl, he gives his hat (that the girl gave him) to Mingyu, as if he wants to tell him: "Although it hurts, I'll choose our friendship". But Mingyu returns the hat to Wonwoo, meaning he's willing to step aside. After this part, there is a scene where the three of them run together. But you can see at 1:50 that the only happy people are Wonwoo and the girl, because they can finally be together. That's why they both look at Mingyu with that gaze of gratitude at 2:02, even if soon after their eyes become bitter (for the girl because she knows that she can't be friends with Mingyu anymore; for Wonwoo because he has to decide what to do with Mingyu). This is probably the last time Mingyu will see the girl due to unrequited feelings. Although Mingyu knows he's taken the best decision, it's bittersweet (his eyes at 2:15 really give this vibe). He's happy to make his friend (and the girl) happy but his dying inside. His choice was very difficult and at 2:06 you can see his look full of mixed emotions: sadness because he won't be with the girl but also because he'll loose two precious friends (Wonwoo and the woman), tiredness of always pretending to be fine and hiding his real emotions, defeat (he has lost to Wonwoo) and sense of loss (he doesn't know what it will be after this). His eyes seems to say "Goodbye" to the girl and maybe also to his friend. At the end of the song he questions himself: "Will our eyes ever meet each other?" (thinking of Wonwoo). But then in the last part he sings: "Don't want to let go so I let go", which sounds more like "i've already lost the girl, I don't want to loose you too". Here, he's referring to the fact that he won't ever confess his love to the girl (he lets go); as for the thing he doesn't want to let go, he's talking about the friendship between him and Wonwoo (which is the only thing that can be saved, but it all depends on Wonwoo). The last scene is the scene where Wonwoo has to decide. The possibilities are two: Wonwoo decides to stay friends with Mingyu, so you can see the final reunion of them as a way for Wonwoo to thank him for letting him stay with the girl, and to say "Even after this, nothing will change", or Wonwoo decides not to see Mingyu again (because he knows that he'd suffer from seeing him with the girl), and so you can see the last scene as a way to thank each other for everything and to say goodbye for the last time. The choice is up to you! Last but not the least, I'd like you to focus on the last scene, at the moment 2:35 where Mingyu is out in the rain looking at Wonwoo. At first his expression seems like he's going to cry, in fact at the beginning of the song he says: "I'm hiding in the rain always smiling" (so it's just rain on his face or also tears?). But you can see that after looking at Wonwoo he smiles again. And this smile is very different from the others, it's not fake, here Mingyu's smile is real, genuine because he has finally accepted his destiny and because he has seen how happy Wonwoo is with the girl. So, whether you think their friendship won't last or their friendship will continue even after this, the ending of the mv remains bittersweet: if you think they will stay friends, Mingyu won't totally be ok seeing the girl he loves with his best friend (and also the friendship with Wonwoo won't be the same as before); if you believe they won't be friends anymore, this is so bitter even if it's sweet at the same time because Mingyu and Wonwoo were both willing to choose their friendship over the girl (it's just Mingyu that decides for Wonwoo in the end, by returning the girl's hat back to him). No matter what final you prefer, there is no victory in choosing between friendship or love: the three of them will suffer anyway somehow. In any case I like to think that, in my interpretation, the friendship between Mingyu and Wonwoo is a great friendship. In the mv the feelings are so well shown: throughout the video you can see that Mingyu hardly smiles and when he does, he's just pretending. Wonwoo never smiles at the beginning but the more he stays with the girl, the more he starts smiling and laughing. Even though this is bittersweet, the mv end up with the both of them smiling genuinely and hugging each other. In the last scene, in fact, you can tell that they really love each other and, no matter how their story will end, they wont' hold a grudge towards each other. They both were willing to even suppress their feelings for the girl not to hurt each other.

"Bittersweet" holds such deep meaning and as rappers of the group, *THEY TOTALLY NAILED THIS BALLAD SONG* . The members of Seventeen are all switching roles around and I must say, *they're doing very well at it* .

The woman and Mingyu were never together in one frame. Thus, she really did pick Wonwoo. Yet, Wonwoo tried to let her go symbolized by the hat. Mingyu was ready to let go giving back the hat. In the end, the colors red and blue are gone. A little hint of yellow or orange was left symbolizing their friendship. To answer Wonwoo, love becomes love when you're ready to give up what you cherish to make someone else happy.

By reading all the theories here, I’ll come up with a combined one: I think they aren’t dating her yet. Wonwoo and gyu are bestf who have feelings for the same girl who has been hanging out with them. The female’s feelings aren’t really clear but I’m sure of the fact that they both loved her but ended up leaving her for the sake of their own friendship. They chose friendship over love. Really interesting how Mingyu, Wonwoo, and Lee Hi's voices blended in this song. Given that the guys are rappers in SEVENTEEN, they both have this raspy and deep vocal color which fits so well with the angst the song demands. Lee hi's voice has always been amazing to me because of its delicious deepness and fullness and I must say her voice is a really great addition to the song. I really like it; It is something I'd listen to during rainy days or when I'm working on something (since it's just laid back, chill at most. Reminds me of H&D's Umbrella). As for the music video, I'm delighted it didn't focus on either of the guy's quote by quote 'suffering' for liking the same girl but instead sprinkled a little bit of sadness, longing, and amazing friendship at the end. The rain scene touched my heart; It's refreshing to see a plot like this end with the supposedly rivals pick their friendship above else. Congratulations for this single, Wonwoo, Mingyu, and Lee Hi! Really well done.

There's something so eerily sad about this music video, there's a hint of quietness in the verses, like it's a hopeless whisper dedicated to youth and desperate, entangled love. So masterfully done, and LeeHi gave life to the lyrics with her unmatched r&b vocals.

I feel that the hat actually acts as a metaphor in this storyline. Wonwoo was given the hat by the girl, but instead he gave her hat at Mingyu knowing that her presence gives him comfort, but Mingyu gave it back to him because he knew he needs it too. But in the end... both of them decided to let go of the "hat" than to break their long friendship apart over their feelings for the girl. I think the scene of them smiling in the rain without needing the "hat" shows how much they are willing to protect their longtime friendship. it's really a bittersweet feeling.... ㅠㅠㅠㅠ In the scene where they are running, Wonwoo & the girl are sure ahead of Mingyu but Wonwoo check on Mingyu... showing his loyalty and ensure to leave nobody behind in this friendship... "Love you Till the end" I guess this is the Power of Love, even between friendship and romantic feelings that they are trying to portray. Regardless of which, they will always love each other till the end. This song is a masterpiece. The MV depicts the song well.. i have never come back to any music video this much before and i have been a carat for a long time but this particular song just does something to me, also, since every one is sharing their interpretation, i also want to do the same, for me it mostly feels like, they all have been friends for a really long time and the first line, "when did love become love", is like when did platonic love become romantic love and that line is so genius, and then it seems like, wonwoo is in love with the girl as he is shown running after her but thye girl is a free spirit and doesnt want a relationship but clearly has feeling for mingyu, who on the other hand seems to be running after wonwoo means he likes him and throughout the mv it seems like wonwoo is somewhat aware of mingyus feelings. in the end, when the raining scene happens it kiund of reminded me of spam france scene where one character goes out in rain and asks the other one to follow him and then they enter into a relationship and i loved that.

Here we have Mingyu, who in their early years got insecure with his singing because some people labeled him as “just a rapper”, but is now proving them all wrong. He has improved so much. Who knew he had so many vocal techniques?! From his chest voice, to mixed voice, and to his falsetto. Tell me once again that he can’t sing. He is actually a really stable singer. Tbh, his voice is under appreciated. But look at him now. And then we have Wonwoo, proving to all of us that he’s more than just the “deep and low tone” that he is best known for. The man has range! It's actually a love traingle where both woonwo & Mingyu like the same girl, but MIngyu confused either he should open up about this feelings towards this women or it will hurt Wonwoo and their friendship, As woonwo also love in with her. that's why Mingyu was in immense tensed & worried( sitting in alone in the rain,walking in street), He couldn't reach the decision,as he should go after the women or not. it created bittersweet feelings.BUt when woonwo got that Mingyu also like the same girl,he gave her to him( hat symbolize this thing).BUt Mingyu gave the hat back,(which means he didn't accept the offer of Woonwo). I've watched this mv so many times and here's my take (after a year of interpretation lmao): Mingyu and Wonwoo both like the same girl, and it seems like they were close friends before and even during the time the two started fighting over the girl. Wonwoo seems to be more successful than Mingyu (as they share AirPods, run and dance together), which leaves Mingyu alone. Then, Wonwoo decides the friendship is worth more, and he's willing to give up the girl for Mingyu (thus, he gives her hat to Mingyu). But then Mingyu returns it, which is a sign that he's also willing to put his love interest behind for the sake of their friendship. So that results in them both giving up the girl, which leaves a bittersweet aftertaste symbolized by the rain at the end. Mingyu had already experienced the feeling, so he steps out into the rain first before Wonwoo joins, and they leave together as friends with a bittersweet memory. This is how I analyzed it, lmk if u agree!

Listening to this song makes me think about my lover that doesn't even exist.

Two years had pass, and I'm still here, again! Appreciating this masterpiece. This song deserve more appreciation than anything.

So here's my theory: Wonwoo and Mingyu are best friends. At 0:24 we see, Mingyu comes to see the girl with his eyes filled with love and at 1:02 Wonwoo looking at the girl with all love which shows both of them were in love with the girl. Mingyu has started realising that its not only him but also Wonwoo who likes the girl. A scene comes where Wonwoo puts a hat on Mingyu's head and seconds later Mingyu takes off the hat and puts it on Wonwoo's head which is in my opinion Mingyu's first step backward. And the next running scene after they all stop Mingyu looking at them realising he should finally cut the thread(meaning stop liking the girl). And the last rain scene, Mingyu coming out into the rain and looking back at Wonwoo and gesturing him to come out is like him saying "Common man, you're my best friend. I'll always choose you over any girl". BUT It's not only Mingyu. Wonwoo giving that hat to Mingyu, Wonwoo coming out into the rain shows He chose friendship as well. In my opinion, this MV is like a backstory of Wonwoo and Mingyu's love story but in the end and even throughout the video we see both of them taking a step backward for each other for love which is also a step forward for their friendship. Afterall love is always Bittersweet.
