Paddle boards, kayaks, skiffs, bay boats and Center Consoles. Today power poles are seen on just about anything you can think of. When power poles first came out there was a lot of question and controversy, but as the years go on, power pole continues to stand their ground in the marine and boating industry. First impressions may lead you as a nonbeliever but as time goes on through the use of various powerful products I am convinced. On the other hand some may disagree due to the price point. Therefor, I’ve put together this video in order for one to determine if equipping their boat with a power pole is worth their time, money and use. Through out the video we will talk about the uses of the power pole towards fishing, docking and stopping.

The high end electric motors have "anchor mode" that keeps you on a spot via GPS. The electric motor is already deployed. It's a simple as a push of a button with your foot. AND, the GPS approach using "Anchor Mode" doesn't add two more serious obstacles to the line when bringing in a fish that may still have some fight and run left in it when it gets close to the boat.

Nothing but problems for me, drains your batteries and worked about 10% of the time (over 4 years). I finally gave up having it repaired and bought a fiberglass manual shallow water anchor. Great video Clay. I always enjoy your videos. I have to agree with you I have a 21 ft Bay boat and only 1 Power Pole on the starboard side attached exactly like yours. Even just the 1 Pole stops the boat and doesn't let it move. I can only imagine having two on the back would really keep it from moving at all. Looking at getting the other installed for sure. The remote makes it nice as well. Its crazy how much torque and twist can be applied to these by wind and current on the boat and just the one continues to hold.

I've had the same powerpole since 2008. It's on a 2007 Center console NauticStar 2200. I should have bought a second one years ago, but they couldn't match the old one, so I'm still running single pole. Aggravating sometimes, but I'm use to it. Ive seen many large boats with these and never seen them being used. Yesterday I watched maybe 8 dozen boats pass by in the channel with these. Some of these boats were massive. Sometimes I feel like its a status thing to have these. Ive see boats all the time with these use a regular anchor instead while in a situation these would be nice to have. Especially when I'm out in the shallows. Definitely don't use these for docking all the time. On a boat bigger than this boat, I'd avoid spending the money.

I'm looking to possibly purchase a bay boat that has only one Power Pole mounted on the port side. Is that sufficient or would you recommend spending the money for the second one? If I can't afford the second one, should I look for a boat with none? IOW, is one better than none, and is two better than one? Final question: as always, budget is always a consideration. I'm looking at 22' to 25' bay boats. If I can only afford EITHER 2 Power Poles, OR having a set of trim tabs (and VHF radio) installed, which should I go for first? Thanks again for a professional, informative video.

That’s why we do not suggested using them to dock for an extended period of time. This would mark the spot and I could just use the trolling motor to stay on the spot, circle around/stay on the spot, IOW stay in the same place. A set of two of them cost about 10 bucks. I could stay in the same spot for 10 Bucks, that's a $3990 saving. Modern Technology is nice but not always necessary. I'll bet it still works, just saying.

For very specific applications, like the large expanse of shallow waters, offshore / sands... there's no doubt power poles are extremely convenient. For the vast majority of the lake fishing world, especially bass fishing, the ability to do "position holding" and more with some of the newer GPS-enabled trolling motors is slowly eliminating power polls. You can only use a power pole in a very limited area of a lake due to the depth limitations, but you can use position hold anywhere.

Definitely very popular in South Florida where we have a lot of Shallowater.

Why have a hydraulic arm? Why not just a hydraulic piston go up and down. Looks over engineered as fuck which corrosion will destroy.

I would have to disagree with you but I appreciate your input 👍🏼 A piston won’t flex the same way the power poles do unfortunately.

That’s actually a great question. Why do they need to pop out away from the boat? It just adds torque to arms.

Why does $2,000 seem ridiculous when you've got $60,000 worth of boat to put it on...go figure...

What an absolute waste of money, I can hear it now....honey wheres the boat....Ohh I used the power polls and the boat drifted away...look if you cant properly dock your boat you're a navigation hazard on the water. So next time you see these on a boat stay away from the owner...they're like waving a flag....amateur.

@@sharons9367 One 8 foot power pole holds my 20 foot boat just fine in all kinds of current, wind and waves. My wife thought I was nuts to spend that much on an "anchor". Now, she's wondering if two would be even better. We will never have another boat without power poles and a spot lock trolling motor. If you're a boater, those two things will change your life.
