Priming the canvas with one of the spray paints sounds like a good solution to the white spot problem. So glad you are wearing a respirator mask. Can never be too careful.

Hello! I REALLY like your paintings!!!! Way to go!!! Congrats!!!! I learned to hydro dip from tumblers. This method is also used to apply "scenes" to stickers by floating the pictures on the water's surface. I That "blob" could be from too much paint on the surface. As soon as you pull your canvas, you can blot off the "blob" with a paper towel. I do that on tumblers. Yes, at an angle eliminates trapping air bubbles. Same with tumblers. I suspect you will soon learn how to float a picture on the water's surface!!! You can always go deeper, like in a bucket! And then you can twist the canvas to also create swirls! Some use a stick to move the paints around, or to attach the paint to the container's sides. Metallics dry faster than the regular colors. Being outside will cause paints to dry faster. AND there are also glow in the dark sprays!!! OH My!!! Sweet, they are!!!! If you are advised to clean with mineral spirits, lacquer thinner, or acetone, like when we spray paint the tumblers, then you are not using a water based product - methinks!!!! Thank you for this video! Really pretty art!!! Blessings and Re Jouir -Darlene

I suggest you use a colored gesso for the priming rather than spraying the canvas with the oil-based enamel. (Multiple reasons) I would also wait at least a week or more before sealing with clear topcoat. (Again, multiple reasons) Enjoyed the vid. Thanks and have fun.

Just for future knowledge, if paint is soap and water cleanup, it is not oil. Oil takes chemical for cleanup.

Very cool! I'm from the nail polish world and this technique is sort of what we do when we water marble our nails! Some polish floats and some sink. There are tons of videos about watermarbling nails. I got into fluid art because I got tired of working on tiny canvases, you make beautiful artwork ♥️

If you’re not sure if it’s oil based; maybe try using one that states it’s oil based. I believe this method is called Intaglio. Where oil based paint is poured or sprayed onto water then transferred to canvas. Which is what you did, but maybe it’s not oil based and possibly why you have blank spots. I am no art major or know much at all, but I have heard of this method. Love all your painting though. Your acrylic pours got me into trying it myself. Keep up all the amazing content.

Make sure your water is warm, not hot, and never cold. Cold water starts to dry the paint before you dip. Spray very quickly, then dip. For swirl effect, immediately lightly swirl with stir stick then dip. Or, tap sides of container for a ripple effect. For best effects, hydro dipping must be done very quickly.

The second one looked like you were using the paint like a heat gun or blow dryer. They both look pretty cool. If you felt like you want to fix the holes, you can spray a little paint into a little container or even on the work surface and dab it on the places you need the colour.

Watch how you spray the paint and before dipping, make sure there are no thin or empty spots of paint on the water. I believe that might have something to do with those missing spots of paint. If it's too think when you're dipping you might actually be pulling those thin spots of paint apart.

Interesting. I like the idea about using paint on the canvas before dipping. Maybe do more than one color though so if there are spots far to the left and to the right they will be different colors? That's what I would do anyway. *laughs* I would do three colors - one on each end and one in the middle. - Heidi

I wonder what would happen if you painted the canvas beforehand, let it dry, then dipped it....then, even if you did get some breaks in there, you wouldn’t have just some empty white spots....would painting the canvas make the spray not stick?

I know you are trying to put it in at an angle but in order to get rid of the bubbles (if you do want to get rid of them) you have to put it all the way in at the tilted angle you started with. I hope that makes sense.

Just a theory but I was thinking, after spraying your design in the water.... lightly spray white all over the design. This would act as the background color and help fight against the white spots of the canvas.....in theory anyway.

Number one ; you're not using enough water. For a 10 inch canvas you should be using about 14 inches of water. Number two ; you're not using enough paint. Spray each color for about 5 to 10 seconds. Let the paint settle in the middle for a couple seconds. After you have completely submerged your product then swipe away the leftover paint on top of the water and then pull your product out. Remove it quickly. Number three; Do a base coat on your canvas first. You can choose either one of the colors you're working with, A coordinating color or simply black. Tip; To tell if a paint is oil based or water-based look at the container under "clean up". If it's soap and water clean up then it's water-based paint. If it is a solvent clean up ,like paint thinner ,mineral spirits ,denatured alcohol then it is an oil based paint. Good Luck!
