First no-nonsense hydroponic basil video I’ve seen that covers all the details rather than referring to other videos for info on the nutrient mix, lighting, etc. Bravo and thanks!

Well done! Thanks for all the concise clear information. I'm surprised that this was enough light! Its encouraging! I was looking at grow LED COB that I draw 240 Watts and I was thinking they would be a massive eye sore and power waste

Great video, and was super useful for getting my own Kratke basil going. I did not use humidity domes, however, and had no issue. I live in AZ so I think anyone should be able to reliably skip this step. I also use considerably lower concentrations of nutrient solution than what is recommended on the bottles and am experiencing great growth.

I think maybe I needed to use more nutrients. I have these large hydroponic tubes with air stones in them but I only used 1 tablespoon of nutrients. The containers are 2.6 gallons so I looked at the directions for Floragrow and it looks like I used too little. Would it make that much difference? Roots are white. They look healthy. Can't figure what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks for the great video! You mentioned you are using the blue and white LED panel light yet the link is for blue LED panel, is that a mistake or you recommend the blue light alone?
@ninehigh99
@ninehigh99 4 жыл бұрын
K K That product is no longer available. But there are plenty of other LED grow arrays on Amazon. The red and blue lights work too. I like the lightweight arrays, they’re easier to suspend above the countertop.

Great video. Want to know if we can follow the same steps with seeds?
@ninehigh99
@ninehigh99 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, seeds will work just fine, but they’re a little slower. You should allow the nutrient solution to just touch the bottom of the net cup. The hydroton clay media will work as a slow wick to keep the rockwool cube moist, but not overly soaked. The roots should be able to make their way into the solution, via the moist but airy hydroton balls.

Hello, i applied same steps as you mentioned, but after removing humidity dome basil's leafs got soft immediately and it seems it can not get water, i opened and checked rockwool and it didn't have any roots i don't know what is the problem how long will it take to get roots, can you help me on this? I'm unable to propagate basil in this way.
@ninehigh99
@ninehigh99 5 жыл бұрын
It can take a few weeks for the roots to peek out from the net cup. Also, you need to *slowly* change the humidity under the dome, as it's the quick change that wilts them. So, instead of taking off the dome completely, just move it slightly off center, so a bit of air gets in. When that works for a few hours (i.e., the leaves don't wilt), then move the dome some more, etc., until the dome is off completely by the end of the day.

Thanks for the video, help out a lot. So the clay doesn’t have to come in contact with the water?
@ninehigh99
@ninehigh99 3 жыл бұрын
No. You definitely want the some length of the roots to be exposed to the air, before they dip into the nutrient solution. The plants need to breathe, else you'll drown them.

Great video. Did you mix and add the nutrient solution at full strength? Many tutorials recommend a weaker solution for new plants.
@ninehigh99
@ninehigh99 4 жыл бұрын
Jan Kamide Yes, I use full strength solution for the initial cuttings. When the plant is large, I top-off the reservoir with lower strength (1/4 to 1/2) solution to replace evaporation. Every month, it’s a good idea to replace the whole reservoir with fresh solution.
@williamcho1974
@williamcho1974 4 жыл бұрын
@@ninehigh99 Would the "Full strength" solution equate to the 5ml of liquid nutrient and 3ml of mag supplement to 2 liters of filtered water mix that you made?
@ninehigh99
@ninehigh99 4 жыл бұрын
@@williamcho1974 For the nutrients in the video, that'd be 10ml of Pure Blend Pro + 3 ml of the Cal-Mag supplement for 2L of water. Nowadays, I just use an all-in-one dry nutrient called General Hydroponics MaxiGrow, where I use 1g powder per 1L water.

AVA LIVE RADIO are the roots healthy and white? If the water level is too deep, you’ll drown the plant quickly, and the roots will rot. Otherwise, maybe you don’t have enough nutrients in the solution?

I moved the basil from under the countertop, and now grow it in a full-sized net pot with about 1-2 liters of nutrient. It sits along the windowsill, and grows very large with little effort.

if the pH is fine but the TDS is 2x, could you just dilute the solution with filtered water, or is there another reason you’d just throw it out? does the TDS measure the concentration of the nutrients or something else?
@ninehigh99
@ninehigh99 3 жыл бұрын
Nowadays, I don’t use any TDS or pH meter. I just add diluted (1/2 strength) nutrient solution, or straight water. I kind of alternate. I’ve found the plants do fine over the varying concentration levels. It’s easy to tell when you’re under nourishing the plant, as the leaves turn yellow. In the end, “eyeballing” works just fine.

I have tried at least 3 times so far. Keep growing algae in my water which ends up killing the plant, even after wrapping it with foil. Do you dis-infect any equipment by heating it or using boiled water?

It’s plenty, as that’s the actual power consumed by the LEDs. There’s a lot of ambient light too. And it’s 24 hr/d. Nowadays, it njust use windowsill light for everything. No more artificial light ever. Plants are more adaptive than you think.!
