Great! Makes me want to start growing jalapenos myself or something similar. Those leaves and flowers are so nice looking. Cherry tomatoes are still the only fruiting veg I've grown. I do get the acne all the time on my plants, don't think it's a bad thing. I have also been cursed by the pepper hands before and I was stupid enough to also take a long bath afterwards which made the pepper oils go even deeper into my skin. Kept me up all night lol

Kratky can be tricky especially for crops that take the full season to grow. From the video it looks like the demise was due to rootrot, wilting happens when roots cease to function :) If you plan to grow another pepper i`d recommend a basic flood and drain bucket (no pump required) which i know you have the skills to make from your fogponic adventures. The longest i`ve had a pepper in the same bucket of hydroton is 5 years. the trunk of the plant was like an old oak tree. Being in a bucket you can place it outside in the summer so its super productive. When it gets cold outside you simply cut it right back and bring it in for the winter.

In my personal experience with growing a jalapeno in soil at least is that those small bumps are roots trying to start from the side I usually put a mix of ash and mulch within it and so far it seems to work

My best guesses as to why the plant health problems appeared: 1)Not giving the nutes a fresh refill as often as you should have. Pepper plant roots tend to take what they need and leave everything else behind. So if you see something like the nutrient solution not being uniformly clear with some white floaty things floating around, it might be time to flush everything out 2) not enough air going to the roots. Maybe the water level was too high for decent air intake from the roots 3) the root ball got too dense that they started choking eachother or denying water and air to eachother. I think this was the case and the best way to combat this is to prune the roots and then prune the plant as well to accommodate for the lack of intake it'll be getting. After pruning the roots give them a nice rinse bc it's kind of like cutting hair in the sense that there will also be lots of debris left in the root ball that'll drop into the water supply

The biggest thing you can do is check the ph balance of your water and adjust it when it’s off that’s the most crucial thing in hydroponics. Also make sure the water container is not getting light into it or it will grow algae

i dont know if anyone said it jet but peppers polinate them self the stick of the flower (stigma) is the part wich needs to be polinated and the stuff surounding it has the pollen in it. so every flower is normaly male and female at the same time

No jalapeno microgreens. 😂 Two plants are probably fighting for nutrients from the reservoir. Peppers and tomatoes are self pollinating,all you need to do is tap the flowers or shake the plant a bit to make the flowers drop the pollen. Unless you want to cross pollinate then you would hand pollinate from a different pepper plant. Did you fill the container to the top? If so you may have been drowning the roots. PH is critical with fruiting plants like peppers and tomatoes so they can take up the nutrients properly. Ph should be 5.8 to 6.0 for hydroponics. At least you were able to get some peppers. Great job, I did the kratky radish grow with mixed results, they are still growing if you want to check that out! Will probably try it again a bit differently. 🌱

Great video. It could have been the concentration. I'm sure you've studied the Kratky method. If I refill a container during a grow, I try not to go more than 50 percent to leave space for the air roots to get oxygen. Submerging the air roots will definitely kill the plant.

So this is 10.mths old but i usually do either the recommended amount or half the recommended amount of nutes for dwc . Also a tiny bit of h202 or hydrogen peroxide helps a lot with the green roots, thats more than likely algae.. 😄 but also black chalkboard paint helps a lot with light , maybe black first then let it dry and thenn paint it white to reflect light ig. Just black should help with algae itself tho so yeah cheers

To me it looks like the water level is too high. For Kraky as the plant matures the water level drops lower. Unless you are using a double cup. which these plants would have out grown by now. Brown roots indicate the roots were dying. Did you let the water level drop some?

I think the roots had not enough airation, a common problem with the kratky method. Staying with kratky you could keep a lower water level later in the grow allowing a larger portion of the rootball to breath. Considering nutrient concentration it is better to have too little nutrients in the water than too much, so you can slowly readjust the levels. Too much nutrients can cause abnormal growth with deformed flowers, leafs etc. Also, like you said, seperating the plants early on into different jugs should help. But very nice, considering you do this in your closet 😁

I believe what happened was root rot. You can tell by the color of the roots and the plant starts to show sighs similar to the plant not getting enough water but it’s actually getting to much . I bet you kept the water level to high roots also need air.

It’s a air flow issue is why your brown leaves are showing up it’s common in peppers but not all varieties. And most peppers are self pollinators. If you put a fan on them it will also pollinate your flowers

When you refill the container, do not fill it up as high as you did initially. You are drowning the smaller roots at the top which need oxygen. Fill the container half way or a 3rd of the way the roots can still breath.

Nice video. That's how you learn stuff. Nobody get's it right on the first time trying out new stuff. Next time maybe ask for help on reddit or even here. For the future: If you see something is wrong even after adding nutrients, let the plant sit in plain old water for a day or two and if the drooping stops then you need to re-calculate your ratios or even make a fresh batch

An EC meter would help with knowing the concentration of your solutions both before you change and what it had been sitting in already. Know the difference between ppm and millisiemens first! Ppm conversion can change between regions too.

3 years too late, but the droop and eventual death was from root rot. It was surprising you didn’t encounter it earlier, and you did a great job overall.

Biggest container you can fit in your closet is best. Once water level gets to around half full, try to keep it there. Add a little more nutrient solution to bring back to level at a time, rather than letting water level drop low and adding back in a lot. In a small container, that may mean daily. You saw how well it grew in the beginning, there is no reason it can't go on like that for a long time- nearly two years for a jalapeno. Every 3-4 refills, empty jar a fill back up to half full. Hard to do with big plant, but you can prune plant, or add a drain to the bottom or siphon out old solution if you can't empty with plant in place. Peppers are one of the best plants to grow using kratky method in my opinion. If you grow the right variety, you could have plant growing for up to 15 years!!!! And I thought plants that produced fruit were female but you keep referring to plant as 'he'

Thanks for the Content. You made a minor mistake in the beginning, by putting them into a transparent container causing algae growth. Even if the algea is not visible yet, it is probably evolving already. This might have caused the browning of your roots. Greets from Berlin and keep it up 🤙

The reason your plant went bad is likely the ph balance and the. If you added a bubbling air stone to your water reservoir the roots would get way more oxygen and not turn brown

it gets better. BUT do airstone or only 50% water lvl...also refill it with frash water when its 20% water lvl. its better to have just a bit less nutriens when to much. i think the roots had minarials o n it and thay couldnt take any nutriens anymore...in this case you need to clean the root and put it in frash water and pray xD. but just take a airstone for fish and put it in the jar. but the rest was good. small mistakes make have a big impact

Fish tank air pump, the plant needs oxygen. Do not refill to top of net cup, the top roots take up air. If you over water you cause root rot.

The plant died because of lack of air in the bottle. You’re not supposed to full the bottle with water and solution. You can search “root rot” for more information. ☺️ nice and entertaining video btw 🤗

looked like root rot to me. Try a lower water level, easier obtained in a bigger reservoir. Also aeration can help with preventing root rot, Pythium wont do as well in a oxygen rich environment. Well done anyways, hydroponics is a constant learning progress.

Just found your channel- realized I watch- listened, rather- to one of your other videos and I wanted to give you a couple of tips that no one else- IS going to "inform" you OF! 1] "Khang Star" is another KZfaqr who does a TON of "grafting" stuff but he uses "hydroponics" for a growing method. He does a LOT with explaining the "WHY'S" & the "HOW'S" of why to do things and why NOT to do certain things! Idk if you "pruned" either of these- but NEXT time your grow a pepper plant- ANY type/kind, you should really watch a few of his videos and you'll get WAAAY more info than most [so-called] "gardeners" will TELL you! 2] When trying to figure out "how" to plant specific plants- a HUGE "tip" that goes a LOOOOONG way, is to research the "TYPE" of plant you want to grow- BEFORE you attempt to grow it... THIS WAY, not only can YOU learn about the mistakes that others have already made- (so YOU don't HAVE to make the same mistakes before you learn the lesson-) but ALSO, so that YOU can get a better understanding of "WHY" specific plants grow the way that they do. For a couple of examples to start with... Herbs: have very shallow root systems and can be grown in literally- ANY type of "container" or "jug"- (I know bc I've tried- I've tried SOOO much crap that "other" "people" SAY- "you CANT do thaaaaat!" .....ugh, IF I had listened to them- I wouldn't have the herb garden, that I have NOW- sooo... yeah! Drooping lol pepper plants like dry not hydroponics yes they grow but they do not like it to many bites use less way less it’s much more productive and safer for consumption use fresh water for at least 7-14 days before consuming it’s easy to harvest before it’s safe

I am suffering together with that plant. It is a miracle that plant it even survived this treatment. Please, before trying "things" with plants, do your research. Starting with the importance of oxygen for roots.
