I'd love to see what ideas you could come up with for turning a small room into a growing machine. Like what systems would you use for maximising space, how would you handle lighting and air flow and most important what would grow? Not exactly a small project but I think it would be interesting to see

Awesome stuff, thanks for the inspiration in Canada. Quick suggestion on the time lapse for all of your videos, I am guessing post production.. it would be helpful to see a time tally every x-days, maybe fade in/out with “5 days, 10 days, 15 … etc”. I find myself pausing the video at the beginning and trying to keep track to see how my own grow is comparing based on time. Cheers

Lol! Not snacking on them while the time lapse was happening! Lol! Now you can eat your fill! I have two micro dwarf Christmas tree tomato plants growing at the moment in an NFT system but I know I will have to transition them to their permanent environment and I’ve been debating what I will use but see this I know that the 40litre totes that I have planned will work perfectly! I wish I had a 3D printer because I would have an amazing setup and would be copying this batabucket setup! It looks like the perfect setup something I did notice was algae seemed to form initially in the perlite where the nutrients were being fed and I’m wondering if you had pushed your tubing further down into the bucket if it would have not had that effect? I’m also curious how much of the nutrients you lost to the algae growth and I’m curious how it seemed to disappear and not be apparent in the final results? Simply because light was no longer penetrating the canopy? 🥰❤️🙏🏻🇨🇦 Thanks for the time lapse videos and the thorough after analysis I truly gain a ton of knowledge and valuable information on how I can grow indoors with my little home hydroponic setup and I am truly feeding my family!

Wonderful video!! Left me with a few questions that other viewers might have as well: (1) Would this system be big enough to grow Dwarf tomatoes as opposed to the Micro Tom you grew? (2) Any estimate on the total pounds/kilos such a system might produce for a single planting? (3) Would it work to have staggered plant starts (like it did in your lettuce system)? (4) can the perlite be reused (if sterilized in some form)? Thanks -- David from Mobile.

Thanks for you videos. Learned a lot and am one of your patreon members. I have been having an issue with my tomatoes that I'm trying to grow in the official bato buckets. I was trying to grow dwarf tomatoes in perlite. All five died, and I tried again. Second time, I used a mixture of perlite and coco coir and they look like they are struggling. I might have transplanted them when they were a bit on the small side. They have small yellow elevated spots on the leaves before they fall off. Wondering if you could give me some pointers. Thanks!

Alright. Maybe it's time to bump the EC up on my tomato. I constantly have issues with leaves turning brown and curling dry under as little at 75 watts of light let alone the 150+ available. Using the time honored masterblend 3 part at it's stated dose which usually comes out around 1.8 - 2.0 max.

Do you find any problems with the algae growth on the perlite? It looks like it might only be a problem at the start of the grow as the plant blocked the light after it got big enough. Have you thought about 3D printing some sort of lid to stop this? You could build in a place to put the 4mm tubing so its not just over the side. Anyway, just a thought, not sure if the algae growth caused a problem.
@alexanderdrechsel6858

In Bako bucket designs you can actually prevent algae growth, if you bury the end of the water pipe a bit. This way, the surface will never have water or algae

To simplify this for those of us who don’t have 3d printers you could just buy some pots and saucers instead of the Bato buckets and drill holes in the lid and saucers for the pots to drain into the reservoir and you wouldn’t need the pvc pipe either.
@JeepMan
@JeepMan Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the exact same! Why bother with the PVC pipe when you can just make 4 small holes on the lid so the water can just drip back in the reservoir.
@roxane1237
@roxane1237 Жыл бұрын
@@JeepMan I see 2 issues: Tiny holes might not be enough, so the water might spill from the top of the bucket It's probably going to be very messy, the water will get everywhere and unevenly dry on the lid. When water dries the nutrients will crystalize so you'll have a (toxic) layer on the lid and loss of nutrient. Might be worth a try though, but it will take time to get it right and might not be worth the hassle.
@JeepMan
@JeepMan Жыл бұрын
@@roxane1237 Interesting and good point about the nutrient crystalizing, I think I'm gonna still do a bigger hole in the middle but create a 3D printed adapter so to direct the water back in the bucket. And still able to eliminate the use of a pipe.

If pH is right (very crucial) and nutrients reservoir is not too warm ( usually overlooked) then you can't really go wrong with this sorta method / all hydro methods/ dwc & then using liquid nutrients... 🤔 = Easy life 👍 faster yield & less taste compared to soil 👍 ... Ec never I've bothered about in 39 yrs ,20 of which in all forms of hydro / dwc methods & never had an issue, ever 👍 .. just put in less than half of what nutrient label says & if slightly yellowing up the dose only a little & then it'll go green & if you wish keep slightly upping the nutes until you see the very very tips of the leaves looking " burnt" .... Either stop at that or even very slightly reduce the nutes & that's it.. 😊😎 the plant will tell you everything pretty quickly in all forms of hydro methods, just keep pH & reservoir temperature within a pleasant range for the plant 🌱🌿❤️😎
