I know enough about hydroponics to know that I don't know enough, lol. 30 days seems to be that magical threshold. Sometimes I'll go for 6 weeks if I know whatever I have will be harvested. Thumbs up for you.

@@joshuarudd6297 I hear ya. BTW, I didn't know that was called root rot. I called it time to trash the plant. Now I know I don't have to trash it, but probably will. My plants hold zero sentimental value to me, lol

You could've saved the basil. There were still some healthy white roots in the center of the rootball. Just gotta chop the rotten roots, clean the container, refill, and let it bounce back. Also consider using a root inoculant like Hydroguard to prevent it from happening again.

I've had root rot that bad before, I cut all the dead slimy roots away and cleaned my container and added new nutrient. The plants hate it, but I've never lost any yet. These were well established plants too though. With a fairly large root mass to begin with. Might have a lot to do with the success rate.

2 issues. When using see through containers, you need to block the light out or otherwise you get algae = less oxygen in water = root rot. For Gnat flies, water with hydrogen peroxide & neem oil. Or creat a spray.

@@joshuarudd6297 Also for root rot, the ph is very important, in the 5.8 to 6.5 range. Too alkaline & everything is a lot more prone to rotting. This is #1 reason for root rot, the bad bacteria need certain ph to grow in, water becomes anaerobic (no oxygen).

Hey bud me again. Me wanted to update u. The peroxide can work of done right. However sometimes it's just not enough. For those instances u can trim the roots and add a root gel to promote new root growth.

Root rot is not a disease per se. It’s an umbrella term. The rot can be caused by a few different pathogens from fungi to bacteria.

@Derek Ross your water supply should not have bleach and you showing just use random public water you should get reverse osmosis or distilled water I wouldn’t put bleach in my water supply that’s feeding my plants tbh I like soil better then hydro cus it’s less issues

General Hydroponics nutrients have turned my peppers roots brown. However, it doesn't feel slimey. My peppers are not growing further but not dying either. Is there ant hope to reverse it? I do see new white roots trying to grow above the water line of my DWC system.

What treatment should I use in order to keep the roots in a good condition? Have you heard of a hydroponic ozone device (sterilizer) for example? Does it work? Thanks.
@joshuarudd6297
@joshuarudd6297 3 жыл бұрын
I do know what ozone does and how it works but I am unaware of it being used in household hydroponics. I work at a pharmaceutical that uses highly purified water and killing bacteria with high heat and ozone is used. I’ll look into it more. It’s probably more expensive then using hydrogen peroxide flush or hydroguard.

It seems like all bare root strawberry plants have brown roots. I thought this was normal. I have to soak these now because after about 2 weeks they started going downhill. They started growing well at first. Somebody recommended Hypochlorous acid but all I could find were huge bottles that cost $50-$75 each!

Are there like essential oils that you can put around the plants to keep the bugs away like I've heard some people do in their gardens...
@joshuarudd6297
@joshuarudd6297 3 жыл бұрын
That might work for a few bugs that effect certain plants but common bugs like gnats and flies are very invasive and will tolerate many harsh conditions. I did several things to get rid of the gnats like gnat paper and vinegar traps but all I did was rack up bodies as they produced faster than I could kill them.

No way, 18 tsp is way too much for a reservoir! Peroxide can be added to your reservoir but at a rate of 2-3 tsp per gallon, no more! That concentration will kill the shit out of your plants.

I got root rot using hydro guard. I added voodoo juice and now seems great. My rot was not as bad as yours though. I also use a lot of air through a stone. Hydro seems to make 💩 appear weather u use the right stuff or not. It’s crazy. I’ve learned a lot. But still learning everyday. So much can go wrong and before u know it 💥, it’s too late. Treat stuff as quick as u can. I cant go no more than a week without changing nutrients. I use 8 gallon dwc buckets and air. One plant per bucket of cannabis
