I've never used a Mig or flux-core welder, until now. I have projects I want to do, and they require welding. Guess it's time for me to learn! Feel free to watch and poke fun in the comments. I'll keep practicing.

That is a hot welder. Inverter style. I bought the same unit months ago and ready to start building a bearing press with it. I skipped through to the welding part. Very nice welds out of the box. Thank you. I forgot about the settings given underneath the spool hood. Was reading the manual that only talks about tig and stick set up. Have a good one.

Nice when someone can view all the mistakes so they don't have to learn first hand. Most folks clean the welding surface with at least a wire brush or better before welding. When flux core welding you can use simple vaseline to dip the tip in occasionally for splatter control as well as cooking oil spray on your metal before you weld.. Oh, and lose the nozzle guard completely or preferably pick up a much thinner shorter tighter fitting guard at HF. The shortened guard will allow you to actually see your weld instead of flying blind. Stick out is around a half inch or slightly less..I prefer less. And drag, not push your weld on flux core. It's so simple a cave man can do it..

All excellent advice. I didn't know about the cooking spray. I gotta try that. Thanks!

Thanks, I really appreciate that. I've been practicing for about an hour most nights since I got the welder. I think it works better than I do, lol, but I can see I'm getting better. I'll be doing an update video in a few weeks. Hopefully it will include a first real project.

I keep going from MIG to TIG and maybe flux. Thanks for the video, you got a new sub.

Thanks for the sub and the comment, I subscribed to your channel as well. It's a pretty versatile machine, able to do flux core, stick, and it has a TIG attachment sold separately. I feel dumb posting a video like that. But the way I see it, if I can teach myself to weld, with awesome KZfaq creators for teachers, about anybody could do it! I'll be posting more videos of my learning experience, and building some projects in the future. I look forward to watching your videos as well.

Might want to check the settings. Drop them way down, way way down, then work them up slowly testing each time.

Thanks for the sub and the comment, I'll also subscribe to your channel as well. Pretty cool wheelie videos 😳 Now that I figured out how to use the machine a bit better, I'll probably do an update video shortly. Really like the machine, and I have been using it near daily since it was delivered.

Awesome, it wasn't just me. I figured I would put up my mistakes for others to learn from. Did you try to use it like that? If so, how'd it go?

I can't give an opinion one way or the other the piece that holds the wire spoon on, it's round and has spring on it broke! I never got to use the machine once!!!! @oftenwrongparadigm I'm not, that's the problem. I bought it and was busy with something else and the time past. But there should be a somewhere to get oarts for this thing. That piece to hold the spool is ridiculously cheap

Dude, that sucks. Are you still within the return window? I made sure to use the crap out of it the first couple weeks I had mine. I wanted to make sure that if it was going to break, it would do it fast. My harbor freight rules. With a limited return window, abuse it to the limits and return it if it breaks. What was it the broke? Does it still power on? What is it doing or not doing? I think I already trashed all the packaging and instructions that came with mine. I thought it had, like so many other sellers, one of those little business cards or slips of paper in it with contact information. I'll dig around in my garage and see if I can find anything.

@oftenwrongparadigm Жыл бұрын
@@mickeyholt3868 I'm not going to say this is ever a good idea, but have you tried cranking it up on high and striking an arc on the grounding clamp? For flux core the grounding clamp would need to be plugged into the positive terminal... Try at your own risk, I don't always give great advice, in case it does decide to strike an arc this way. My curiosity would just get the better of me in this situation. Will it strike an ark using the stick welder?

Yep, that tip was swapped out for the little cover for flux core right after my next visit to harbor freight. So much easier to see what's going on with the smaller tip cover.

Good call ! Would you recommend this flux core welder ?
@oftenwrongparadigm
@oftenwrongparadigm Жыл бұрын
I would, but as my first one, I have nothing to compare it to. I've used it for stick and flux core and haven't had any issues with it. The included wire is messy, splattered a lot more than the forney wire. I like the forney wire with this welder. Made my first project with it, rock sliders for my golf cart. Looking forward to the next project, a winch bumper for the cart 😁

Good to hear. I watched this after months of practice/use and laugh at myself. I've learned a ton by making other projects and watching the "making mistakes with Greg" KZfaq channel. And, I've got a couple better chippers now, that one is trash.
