This keyboard received so much attention on the internet we had to check it out. The Keychron K2 combines the perfect reality of a modern keyboard into an affordable, clean, wireless, PC & MAC compatible body, that is too much to handle without a certain accessory. Here's our review!

You’re literally the one reviewer that discussed wrist strain, great review and attention to ergonomics. Most reviewers focus on switches and context around that.

Yeah. I appreciated that. Is there a similarly nice-looking keyboard out there which has better ergonomics and maybe isn't as flimsy feeling with the keycaps?

Anthony Craig ended up buying the keychron K1 low profile red witch mechanical keyboard. I love the clacking sound it’s for home use so if you’re planning it in the office it’s pretty audible and as for ergonomics it’s wonderful minimal strain

"Switch and Click" mentioned that and every other Keychron keyboard as it they have a 5 degree incline as opposed to a more normal 7 degree incline on their keyboard. I cant justify why Keychron went with a shallower angle the only reason to justify a shallow angle is if they decide to go with uniform profile DSA or XDA profile keycaps rather than, curved profile Cherry-profile or OEM-profile keycaps which are known to have a staggered rising profile to the top of the keyboard as compared to the bottom row.

Thanks for the great review. I’m using the RGB K2 with aluminum chassis for a couple weeks now. Going mechanical was a huge leap from my $19.99 low profile Logitech. I do a lot of webexes via speakerphone and work in a home office with my wife which makes the loudness of this keyboard a real issue at times. It looks great on my black desk and the lighting options are cool but not entirely practical. The height of the keyboard has been tolerable so far and no wrist issues but reaching the top row means repositioning my hands. It was a challenge to figure out how to connect multiple devices to this keyboard via Bluetooth but I’ve got that dialed in now with a worktop laptop accessed via Fn+1, home laptop via Fn+2 and iPhone on Fn+3. The text for the switches on the side is very hard to see but now they are in muscle memory so not an ongoing issue. For my setup I would’ve preferred the USB C power jack at the rear or right side. I like the smaller footprint of this keyboard since it gives me some desk surface real estate back. I’m keeping it for now

with like 50 bucks you can make it completely silent. With 17, you can still make it pretty quiet, just get some quiet switches, like some cheap Gamakay Phoenix switches. They are simple to assemble, just look up a quick tutorial on changing mechanical keyboard switches.

I'm very happy with the thickness of the K8 frame. I realize this review was for the K2, but I figured I'd post my thoughts because I too wondered how frame thickness would impact my experience. Ultra low profile keyboards often strain my wrists. Based on my observations from the video, my wrists and forearms are likely not as small as the author. I have the K8 which is even thicker and I enjoy it. I bought it because I like that I can connect my Mac, PC, and iphone to one keyboard wirelessly through bluetooth by just clicking the appropriate buttons. It is my travel keyboard. I use a logitech G915 as my daily driver, but I need to push it to the edge of my desk and adjust the desk height to ensure that the low profile doesn't cause wrist strain. It is funny how subtle differences like thickness in forearms, wrist bones, or other body mechanics can change a review from negative to positive.

Nice review. I liked the K2 so much, I got a K4, and I have a K6 on order. I recently transitioned to mechanical keyboards from Apple keyboards. I'm 75, and I was starting to hit adjacent keys and making double taps too much. I blame the big chiclet keys with not enough space between the keys...for me at least. I learned touch typing on a manual typewriter, and if the teacher caught you resting your wrists, you were in big trouble. Times change and I got into the habit of resting my wrists. I'm actually enjoying holding my hands up as I learned to do so long ago. I did build a riser out of Legos for the K4 to give it more tilt. I'm loving my Keychrons, and my typing is improving.

You seem to have this preconception that Gateron switches are Cherry MX clones, therefore they are worse. Which is so far from the truth. Most people would actually say Gaterom switches are equal if not better than Cherry MX switches in general. I think you're just subconsciously affected by the brand name as Cherry MX is sort of the "standard" outside the MK enthusiast community.

I own the K2, and I personally really enjoy it. I haven't had any issues with Bluetooth connectivity with any of my Windows devices, whether it be my desktop, laptop, or Android phone. I have the RGB version, and the battery life has been outstanding thus far. It's lasted even longer than the advertised spec. One thing I really like about Keychron is that the developers listen to their customers and improve upon the firmware of their keyboards accordingly. The K2 has increased in functionality over time through firmware updates based on customer feedback. I own several mechanical keyboards, and the K2 is actually among my favorites. To each their own, I guess...

My K4 is awesome. It is angled, Bluetooth works perfectly and the sound is really good with the packaging foam inside the frame. The Stabilizers came generously pre-lubed and sound great. Sadly I have the same problem with the brown switches tho. Some had a hard bump, some were scratchy, one had a loud spring reverb, and some even were squeaky. I kinda made it better by switching switches to and from different locations so all important sub-groups sound the same.

I bought it like a week ago and I'm really please with my purchase. I used to have the Drevo Calibur V2 with outemu brown and I think that switching from outemu to gateron was really nice and also the plus of have it a wireless is just nice. I haven't noticed much of the sounds of the switches because I always use my headphones. I have noticed that the keyboard is a little bit tall, but it help with my ergonomics because it forces me to sit down straight. To summarize: I love the keyboard I just need to change the keycaps but it's hard to find ones that fits the keyboard right side and it makes it harder to live in Mexico.

Bought one of these as my daily workhorse keyboard about two months ago, and wanted to share my own experience after watching this video. 1. Thickness. Agreed that it's too thick. Highly recommend getting a palm rest, or if you are cheap like me, using a rolled up towel :-) 2. Switches. No complains. I've used cherrys before on some high-end keyboards, and the Gateron browns on my K2 stack up well. 3. Inconsistency. Doesn't bother me. The inconsistency might be noticeable when doing a keyboard "review", but in reality, you're mostly likely to be focused on what you're doing on the screen, rather than letting you ear be annoyed by the sound difference between the enter key and the space bar. 4. Price difference between official site and Amazon. I was shocked at first too. Then I realized the price on the site doesn't include shipping, while Amazon has free (or close to free) shipping. So it all evens out. 5. Battery life and Bluetooth connection. Good enough that I don't even think about battery life or Bluetooth connection. Overall, let's just say it's several millimeters away from being the perfect keyboard in its price range.

recently got myself a K2 to replace my Razer Ornata Chroma V2 because im working toward building out a full wireless peripheral setup. Not sure if i got a newer iteration of the keyboard since mine has a slight angle without the legs extended, might just be because ive got the RGB version. Personally I love it, its very small compared to the Ornata and fits my playstyle for games perfectly, i tend to have my mouse on a very low DPI so i happen to make a lot of large movements. So far the only issue ive got with it, and its more of me than the keyboard, is that the spacing of the keys is just a bit different than the Ornata so i tend to make more mistakes or tap two buttons at the same time when typing. I do agree that a wristrest is probably something that most people will need if theyre going to be using it for typing or extended gaming sessions. love the review, keep it up!

For me it's another story. I used to daily drive Cooler Master Pro L with MX Brown but one of the key went bad and Cooler Master replace me with MX Red RGB instead (they ran out of Blue and Brown). I couldn't bear the linear switch and I kind of need keyboard ASAP and most of the MX Brown keyboard in the market is either out of stock or the price is just crazy for pre-built. So I decide to try Gateron Brown (without trying it out due to covid thing). And TBH I hated it, I just too linear for me. I ended up switch back to MX Brown by order HP K10C from China and my Gateron Brown went back into its box.

I had to pick up some dielectric grease in order to switch out the space bar to a PBT double-shot setup, the space bar and Enter keys definitely have a noise to them.

I really like these incoming keyboard reviews. I was skeptical since there are several keyboard enthusiast channels, but you guys are doing a good job. My only critique is that I think that Cherry MX are really middle-of-the-road. There are worse switches, but there are also a lot better ones imo.

@@Scrofitto There are too many switches I wouldn't say that there is a better switch, all brand are different even clones of Cherry sound a bit different and a tactile switch of one brand will feel different from the same offer of another brand. You have to pick your flavor. The one thing I can tell you that is universal are the stabilizers at low prices the mayority are crap and they will make your big key (Space Bar, Enter, Shift) sound like crap and it won't matter which switches you use. In this video he is praising the G.SKILL KM360 because it has Cherry stabilizers too which make it sound really nice.

@@Scrofitto I find Kailh Box style switches to be some of the best. kailh box reds, for example are silky without even lube. Box Royals and Navy's are way more tactile than browns as well. Buy a key switch tester from kbdfans and try some out! It's only like $10 and is eye opening

Nothing against you, Ibra, but I have some stuff I'd like to mention. As the main man to review keyboards on the HC channel, I'd like you to try out different options that you haven't, because by the looks of it, you are lacking some knowledge that could elevate this video and plenty of future videos you'll make about keyboards. Mainly, I'm talking about callouts like such: 7:34 "Traditional Cherry switches" is a mention that has practically lost it's meaning within the keyboard community a while ago (although a lot of us love some of the Cherry switches), and it started to lose its meaning last year with practically every other keyboards manufacturer either making their own switches, like the Romer G and Razer's switches, but with others going with different options like Kailh switches and Gateron. Also, most of the most praised switches from the community are somewhat Gateron based like Zeal's switches that use the Gateron housing, or the currently very popular Gateron Inks. Heck, one of the best stock linear switches is the Kailh x NovelKeys Cream switches. 7:50 Your preference is your preference, but I'd love a video that explains your experience with keyboards and switches, because as far as I remember you've never uploaded a video of any 'premium' switch. Saying that, maybe give a go to a completely custom one or a build using a hotswap board or something, check out some TaehaTypes videos or something and learn new things that you could share with the audience. I'd love to watch that! 8:07 You're calling out a squeak or something - Would that be just the switch spring sort of echoing because they use Cherry profile switches on a pretty much huge hollow space within the case as far as I know (although if this is a retail version of this keyboard, expect some lesser quality switches, that'll happen with Cherry and Kailh as well because not every single switch is perfect). Also, you're comparing several keys without mentioning the stabilizers at all, might be lack of lube or a lower quality stabilizer that causes that as well. 8:30 If you'd tell someone that you have a wireless, bluetooth, mechanical keyboard that has a 4000 mAh battery and charges via USB type C for 69 bucks, I'd expect them to understand the 'unbinned' switches. For this price point you're getting much more than most keyboards on the market. Reason I'm mentioning this is because I really like keyboard content. I've started this EXPENSIVE hobby a couple of years ago with the GMMK TKL that I've modded slightly to perform better and be quieter, and am slowly maturing it and getting closer and closer to my (hopefully) endgame set. Problem I have with the mainstream tech channels is that channels like yours, Jayz2Cents, RandomFrankP and even LinusTechTips is that while you do go for the mainstream angle and have the mainstream knowledge, if you could increase the info you can share to your audience, such as what Frank did with him diving into custom mechanicals and recently even Linus went ahead and made his own (and has some more videos on the way according to his FB), which could elevate this content, as it did in my opinion to one smaller channel by the name of BadSeed Tech. Typing this on a GK64S (99USD for a wooden case, aluminum plate and the hotswap bluetooth board with a 4000mAh battery) with currently Kailh Box Royals (around 55 bucks for 90 switches) until Drop ships the aqua Zilents and SA Miami Night (99USD)

@NaveTGT exactly. Nice review of his review. lmao. But seriously comparing gateron browns to mx speeds and complaining about bigger key noise which is easily fixed by checking the grease on the stabilizer bars, just makes this review seem uneducated. Also thought it was strange that he didn't mention keychron's other keyboards, the fact that they have optical switches, and hotswappable boards now.

I own the K2 and really enjoy it. I agree you should get a wrist rest if you aren't a floaty typist and yeah, the stabilised keys are a tad soft, but in general it is a great typing experience. I don't feel any wobble when typing, but I will certainly check when I am at my desk. I absolutely love the compact form factor without needing multible layers. But I wish it had PBT caps.

For starters even gat are naming their switches according to standards Cherry set. Cherrys were the original that started the mechanical keyboard craze and for the longest time were the only real choice as nothing really came close. Only in the last few years we've seen other manufacturers coming up with decent switches of their own. No wonder people still consider them to be the golden standard. You can be pretty sure every company making their own switches are comparing themselves to Cherry.

A lot of the complaints you list (not being cherry, click/squeeky enter key, hight, brown switches etc) are actually not issues with the board. But, rather enthusiast level details. Cherry are not worth the money in my opinion. Like at all, Gateron are great switches and are great value for money. The squeak is purely down to stabilisers not being the best and are simple enough to replace and/or loop up. The switches are are entirely personal preference. (as are key caps). So, I hate to say this, but comparing a custom board form Keychron or Idabao etc with a G-SKill is a little iffy.

I don't have the K2 but Im rocking the K4 (numpad version). A thicker 0.75" wrist rest is a must. I haven't had any Bluetooth issues connecting to my PC, using a pcie wifi 6/bluetooth 5 card. You really should do a review on the k4/k6 which come with optical switches. Also saying cherry switches are superior to gateron switches when you have the brown switches is slightly petty. The issues you are having with the larger keys are just due to the support bracket bars needing more lube. Seems to be a QC issue. The hollow sound is indeed due to the large space behind pcb.. I had to lube my backspace and left shift key supports as the squeak was terrible. Also the white led version has less of the cool color tone that you were mentioning and more neutral.

I have a K2 in blue switches and a K4 in red switchs, and I love them both! Wasn't sure how I was gonna do with the thiccccc design but I have smaller hands and longer fingers so it ends up working out really nice as far as height. I did end up replacing keykaps on both though. The K2 with the white Hyper X pudding caps and the K4 with some blue and pink vice city style key caps. I do have a little bit of a squeak in the space bar on the K4 which is a bit annoying but I have headphones on most of the time so I don't really notice it. I'm sticking to the K4 though because I like the smaller form factor keyboards, but after being on TKL and 60% keyboards for over a year, it's nice to have a number pad again for when I need it and the K4 is a good mix of both worlds.

I feel like this review went out of its way to find issues with this keyboard. Of course for good ergonomics you should be using a wrist support with a keyboard and have the legs extended to produce the best angle. In this configuration I have now used this keyboard for over a year and had zero wrist issues, which coming from someone very prone to RSI and similar conditions, is amazing. The switches are excellent for typing on, I have the same Brown variant, but personally I wouldn't use it for gaming, I prefer to use Red switches. The battery life is excellent, and I've had zero issues with the bluetooth connecting to any devices, including four different Windows PCs and Laptops over the last year. The RGB backlighting is excellent, easy to turn off in a more professional setting, or to customise to be less 'gamer-y'. The USB C port is recessed, which makes using other USB cables tricky sometimes, but other than that I have no complaints with this keyboard, especially for the price. I still prefer using my Vortex Cypher with MX Silent Black switches in the office, but for working from home the Keychron K2 with Brown switches has been an absolute delight to use. The media keys are great, the layout works well for me, despite being a UK user with a US keyboard, and it feels fast and satisfying to type on.

Intending to pick up one of these as a replacement for my current Logitech K810 keyboard when that finally gives up the ghost. I really needed a Bluetooth wireless keyboard that has a 75% compact layout, had media keys, and was backlit, and the Keychron K2 was the only one that ticks all these boxes. Shame I'm not able to find a low-profile keyboard that fits these requirements as well (unless Keychron starts making a 75% version of their K1), and the thickness of the K2 is definitely rather concerning. Perhaps I might pick up a wrist rest for a 75%-sized keyboard if and when I do buy this keyboard.

I'm not sure you can blame a keyboard for the relative heights of your chair and desk. Most fixed height chairs and desks put the keyboard too high for typing ergonomically. This is why the old school computer desks had a keyboard tray that was much lower than the height of a typical writing desk.
