i have been playing badminton for 1 year now. Is it normal that your wrist hurts when trying to do smashes or are my hand and arm not strong or conditioned enough like regular players?

In my opinion, multiple things can cause wrist pain : - your wrist lack of mobility - you force too much the wrist to go down (I see it a lot, not only in beginners shots) - pain can be caused by your muscles / tendons / finger extensor putting too much pressure on the wrist - a mix of all those For me, the wrist movement you see in these videos is the continuation of what is before in the movement ; it's just a "let go" at the end of te shot ; it's not a forced wrist action on the racket but more like a racket action on the wrist (by inertia) Not sure if it's very clear, but hope you'll understand.

It's not normal, chances are you're using your wrist to generate the power rather than your forearm. Try focusing on hitting the same way it's shown in the video, the wrist should be relaxed and kind of move on it's own if your technique is correct.

Not normal, wrist hurts because it is bended during hitting, like knocking a door The proper technique, just as shown in the video, is wrist rotation, hence pronation, which focuses on your forearm strength
