Hyperkalemia is a medical condition characterized by abnormally high levels of potassium in the blood. This condition can result from a variety of factors, including kidney disease, medications such as ACE inhibitors and potassium-sparing diuretics, alcoholism, and adrenal gland disorders. Symptoms of hyperkalemia can include irregular heartbeats, muscle weakness or paralysis, low blood pressure, and stomach pain. It is often diagnosed through blood tests and can be treated through changes in diet, medications, or dialysis.
