Hyperloop-Revolution: Munich as a Pioneer for the Future of Travel
In a 24-meter-long test tube near Munich, the Hyperloop, a forward-looking mode of transportation, has made its promising beginnings. Project leader Gabriele Semino expressed satisfaction, even though the Hyperloop is not yet close to reaching the speed of sound. Nevertheless, the 24-meter-long test track represents a crucial step toward visionary travel technology.
The Hyperloop offers a significant advantage over traditional trains: it allows for departures directly from the city center. The goal is impressive - a speed of 900 km/h. This would mean that the journey from Munich to Berlin could be completed in just 40 minutes, compared to the usual 65 minutes by a commercial flight.
The Hyperloop's operation is fascinating. By minimizing friction, the capsule levitates above the track without contact. An integrated linear motor provides propulsion, while an electromagnetic levitation system magnetically pulls the capsule forward. All this occurs in a vacuum tube, at only 1% of atmospheric pressure, to minimize air resistance.
Germany's support for Ukraine in the form of doubled military aid also casts its shadow on the Hyperloop. Meanwhile, hopes remain for the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles.
Despite promising tests, challenges remain. These include the airtight construction of a tube hundreds of kilometers long and estimated costs of 15 to 19 billion euros for the Berlin-Munich connection. However, scientists at TU Munich have clear perspectives. The next steps involve longer test tracks of over ten kilometers to further refine the technology. Their goal is to present a mature Hyperloop technology in about seven years.
Overall, it is evident that the Hyperloop has the potential to fundamentally change travel. The tests in Munich mark a significant progress, even though the challenges remain high. The future of the Hyperloop thus remains an exciting chapter in the book of innovative and sustainable mobility.

With virgin hyperlloop going bust and then one close to SpaceX scraped, this definitely is impractical.

Promoting innovations is great. However, I have one piece of opinion that may not be well-known: the fact that Germany takes a good hold on this Hyperloop is because it's among rare German innovations nowadays. Another noteable is BioNTech vaccine, but this company decided to expand facility in UK to develop new drugs (NOT in Germany, their home). When innovations are generally rare in Germany, they definitely take a very gooooooood hold on it, no matter what (e.g. economic sense, practical implementation). If they abandon that, there won't be any other innovations any time soon. In contrast, innovations in the US come out everyday; vanity ideas can be got rid of easily as new innovations (in other areas) will come out soon. This situation is however not true in case of Germany.

Good thing it’s aerodynamic for the vacuum it will be traveling in. 👌

What radius does the track need when changing direction before all passengers pass out and spread onto the inside of the pods? Maglev technology is nothing new but bloody expensive - ask the Japanese. What is the capacity of these pods? Thunderf00t (YT channel) has covered this so many times it is truly stunning some are still selling this stupid idea. It seems you can sell Mars megapolis or Hyperloop or the 100 mile long city with CGI. ;)

I love how at the end it is always "trains but worse". You could use the money to reform the Deutsche Bahn and repair our train network.

As if the normal HSR (High Speed Rail) were not already costly enough. Running at 350km/h is not always a thing because the distance between stops is not far enough, or straight enough (must go through moutains, rivers, cities, villages...). Let alone >800km/h... 😕 Freight train is recommended to go < 200 km/h. Unless "future of travel" (title) means future of 200-300 years head...

Would that differ from the usual fast train going off the rails? I´d rather see a comparison between this and maglev, costs to build and run. And Chinese and Japanese seem to be ahead of us in this category.

@@xc43t well a diesel generator train is running on electric motors and they barely go ~130kph but I just meant what an EMP would do to a mag lev that's so quick. A rolling rail train might lose it's auto brakes but they have redundancies. If your train stops floating at half the speed of sound... Oh buddy

A practical EMP to the degree you are considering is also fiction. With that said, mag-lifts are built with the foresight of magnet failure and power failures in mind. It might not be pretty(speculating) but wouldn't lead to fatalities either. I am confident that a scenario as obvious as a complete power out on a mag-lift has been considered by regulatories. The same would apply to the fictional vac-train.
