This video is on Hypnotic Phenomena in Clinical Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy
People often limit the role of clinical application for hypnotic phenomena to merely 'convincers' to get buy in for the work, but this really is selling them short!
To find out about the September Workshop at Melissa Tiers Centre in NYC, go here: www.hypnosiswithouttrance.com...
In this video we talk about meaning making in therapy, touching on PTSD, post traumatic growth, Robert Kegan and more.
The video opens with what many would call a hypnotic induction (though it's more accurately a piece of leveraged phenomena work).

And I'm curious... What are your favourite creative applications for hypnotic phenomena in hypnotherapy or changework?

Perhaps you wish to restore some meanings filtered from your question? What specifically do you mean by hypnotic phenomenon? You know well yourself the quality of the answer may well depend upon the strength of the question you ask. Please take this comment in best possible way, sir. I truly learn much from your teachings. I cannot think of one presentation that did not edify me to done extent.

@@ericrounce8181 I'm really just using the 'lingua franca' of the hypnosis world here, Eric. Personally speaking, there is just experiential phenomena, and it is that in it's totality we are exploring with when we do 'hypnosis'. So, I'm using the term here to refer to such things as catalepsys, hand sticks, arm locks, amnesias, analgesias, aphasias... whatever. Interesting suggested 'stuff'. Not a specific, scientifically defined category, so hopefully this rough exemplar 'laundry list' will suffice

@@TheTrippnotist I remain a fan. I recently purchased 4 of your hypnosis without trance home study products. You are among the few I learn from, who in my own judgment, I believe continually seek out only what is effective and discard the dross. So cheers. I do regret I am not able to catch your training at Htllive 2019. You have hinted that you are thereafter going in another direction. I recognize that to build your business a change seem to be required, you will not be abandoning what has been working in your "brand".

@@ericrounce8181 I am creating a new hypnosis training programme, which is also a self-transformation programme. What is changing is how I deliver things and what it all means 'under the surface'.

I use hypnotic phenomena most of the time. Over time I've drifted away from focusing on "inductions" and often chain phenomena together and link them to the desired outcome. For instance I recently did a live talk where I ran the audience through "magnetic fingers" then "magnetic palms" then "book and balloon". At the end of the book and balloon routine, where most of the crowd had one hand high and one hand low, I said something along the lines of letting their left hand fall only as fast as they could let go of all the negative thoughts and feelings that were holding them back, then letting their right hand fall only as fast as they remembered and re-installed all the positive thoughts and feelings they had ever had. I made it quite theatrical, and almost all the participants reported feeling significantly better afterwards, with a handful reporting major shifts in perception. It was a lot of fun too.

This is REALLY good James!! I love the experiential metaphor. Very ingenious way of describing phenomena work as a tool for leveraging change.. Genius! Thanks for that!

Great video james. Personally I use phenomena work in clinical situations. I start off with postural away, some idea motor movements, then I do hand clasp, foot stick, eye lock and then continue to induction and so on. I’m working my way towards amnesia numbers and name. I tried the name but didn’t work but I just went into something else so they knew no different. When he is holding the coin, and your asking him to move the problem to the coin, if he drops it, is that not good as they maybe getting rid of their issues, but of course your looking for a stick, so is that not going against what you want for them

I'm happy to go with it whichever way it goes... whatever happens, I'm geared up to use it. As I believe Louis Pasteur said "fortune favours the prepared".

I don’t use hypnotic phenomena as much as I’d like and I’m really keen on the idea of utilizing it more for changework. I’m curious if you are bringing this training to other places besides NYC? (An LA resident wants to know. :) )

I'd love to do something in LA... it pretty much comes down to getting an invite from a promotor! I might do something for @Carlos Casados - Hypnotherapy Breakthrough in Orange ( he has suggested the idea, but we'd need to get the timing right). I'm in Santa Monica for the last week of August and the first to weeks of September visiting friends and enjoying the beach... are you anywhere close?

James Tripp - Chaos Wave I’m in Hollywood, CA. So central LA. Orange is an hour from me. And I’m a half-hour away from Santa Monica. I’d love to see this happen around this area. I trained with Melissa Tiers when I was living on the east coast, so have a similar approach to change work. I would love to become more confident in doing and using phenomena, in general. I’m going to keep an eye on this. And if I know of anyone else capable of putting this training on I’ll let you know. I don’t know Carlos, but I’d like to get to know him. I’m volunteering at HypnoThoughts this year-my first time going-so I hope to meet some new people while there.

@@lanibuess4118 you can enjoy HTL with intensity, and on special insider track as a volunteer. My first year was 2018. Unfortunately financial circumstances do not appear to permit my attendance this year, so I confess jealousy. So beyond the whine, I wish you the br8time ever....

In something as in the demo with the gentleman, once that coin drops for him, are the changes apparent for him pretty much right away? Does it take time for the changes to "manifest" in "reality"? Awesome video!

Hi Bill This demo was from a LONG time back! And, to be clear, it was a demo of a single 'bit of business' rather than a demo of an actual changework session. When I'm doing changework for real I use LOTS of tools and manoeuvres interwoven and tied together with iterative feedback loops, some of which extend out across several sessions. I do not want to be giving the impression here that this is intended as a stand alone technique!
