As previously stated, Warship is the correct term. Battleship refers to a very specific design that is sadly no longer in service or is being built.

Who knows with railgun tech or even partical accelerator cannons battleships may return. Also the USA ,Japan, and Germany are looking at there old battleship classes again they need something to attack the shoreline if they go to war with China and missile are to expensive complicated to waste of pounding a shore line and it's a waste of jet fuel and ammo for aircraft carriers as stated by top military officials in USA and Japan. So they may come back.

@@kuninagako9035 Shore bombardment is a thing of the past- one single truck with a Harpoon or Neptune-like missile would disable a 'battleship'. They will not return. A modern, even simple diesel submarine, would disable a 'battleship'. It was found that a well-placed smart munition, rocket or shell, is money better spent than blanketing an area destroying nothing useful. Only cluster munitions do that well anymore (delivered by air/missile/rocket). Plus, shore bombardment munitions have a history of duds, which exposes friendly in-gressing forces to ordnance that may explode later. Frigates/destroyers/cruisers are all that are needed along with submarines, carriers and amphibious assault ships. Amphibious assaults can only be made with absolute air superiority on all levels (close air support, mid-level fighter coverage, higher-level interceptors and stealth/electronic warfare/recon/anti-radiation platforms).

The gunners mates hate it when they have a gun shoot or missile shoot. For the gun shoot, after they get done they have to go and patch the non-skid. The rubber mats help a little bit, but there are still divots or 'half-moon' marks in the non-skid. After the missile shoot, they get to go out and paint over the scorch marks.

The original designation of Destroyer is derived from the task set to design a fast gunned ship as a Torpedo Boat Destroyer,as these boats were considered a lethal threat to ships of the line. This requirement dates back to the early 1900s and have been built in a similar pattern continuously,fast,agile and well armed.

Ships are still vary hard to hit unless your in a Russian ship. The USA ships and Japan's has lasers and many other defenses against air and missile system they are even taking out drones at crazy ranges so yes ships are still vary valuable the only down side with today's ships they can't take a hit like at all there no where near what a battleship can take as punishment look at Yamato and Bismarck they toke a hell of a beating. If today's ships got hit by one shell from a battleship it's lights out your ship becomes two pieces it will break right in half

Please please get your ship I'D. straight. Its not a freaking battleship. .. They're almost the size of a World War 2 light cruiser. They're weaponry is very advanced. But I don't know if they can take a torpedo or serious missile damage. Hopefully we won't have to find out.
@kuninagako9035
@kuninagako9035 6 ай бұрын
To answer your question if today's warships can take a hit the answer is no just no. They don't have armor belts or bulge armor anymore one shell or missile or even a RPG can do heavy damage to today's ships. Today's ships are vary lightweight but have vary accurate anti everything system on them and can see why farther then WW2 ships. Battleship like Iowa can take a hell of a beating even today's ships don't have the weapon to sunk a battleship like Iowa and if Iowa gets into gun range well today's ships would be in two pieces at the bottom of the ocean. But it also depends on what Iowa you where fighting if it's Missouri or Wisconsin your 110% going to die they were updated with modern tech and nuclear rounds that are 15 magatons aka Castle bravo level nukes and Wisconsin is still the fastest warships that the USA has ever built she does 42knots where today's ships do 30knots so there no running way your going die against it if your in a modern day destroyer.

Battleships are defined as Large gun and heavy armor capital ships built for slug fest and punishment that no ship today can withstand. All ships now are destroyers , cruisers, supply ships, subs, and aircraft carriers that's it no battleship classes the only use for battleships nowadays is there ability to drop a crazy amount of shells on shorelines before an attack but that's it. The original roles of the US Navy beginning in the War of 1812 were coastal defense from invading enemy and protection of sea lanes for commercial use. The latter role being the reason that John Adams was able to gain approval of congress for a standing (permanent) navy as opposed to the concept of privateers used during the revolution. These remain though in the modern world support of alliances is also required.

Battleships sit in a weird spot for USA, Japan, and Germany do to they are old and outdated but still vary needed. The miliary is still arguing about battleship and bring them back do to a lack of shoreline firepower that battleships bring. The top military officials all agree that missile are way to expensive to use on shoreline bombarded and aircraft carriers would just be wasting fuel and ammo on trying to soften shore landing. That's why there looking at old battleships again incase they have to attack China. Battleship shells cost almost nothing and can be built by anyone unlike missiles that have lots of special parts like semi conductors and if we can't build them we may have to rely on battleships again to fight China.
