Hypoallergenic Dog Food - Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein Adult HP (Feeding my allergic dog)

This is what I am currently feeding my food allergen prone dog Halo! How she is doing on it and how I feel about it. This is only my opinion and this is only less than 3 weeks in. Our fingers are crossed that this will be the last food she will ever have to be on so prayers up that it works for her!
There are ONLY three companies that make hypoallergenic dog food and you have to have a prescription to buy them.
Royal Canin
Purina
Hills Science Diet
I chose Royal Canin from the overwhelming positive reviews and I'm glad I did.. she is loving it and her entire attitude with life has changed. She is more playful, more energy, sleeping less and seems like overall a happier healthier dog.
Junior is our 3 1/2 year old Chocolate Rednose American Pitbull Terrier from the bloodlines of Danger Zone & Boogie Man.
Halo is our 7 yr old Bluenose American Pitbull Terrier from the bloodlines of Watchdog & Colby...
My Pitbulls are loving, loyal, caring, athletic, determined, incredibly smart, perfect all around family and protection dogs that make our family complete. ♥ I could not imagine my life without them, and I will never be without a Pitbull for as long as I live.....
If you are interested in the breed, do lots of research before you commit. This is one of the strongest breeds, despite their body size. They are determined, intelligent, loyal, respectful, gentle yet protective and aggressive if they are not trained and treated properly.
A Pitbull puppy is one of the most active, destructive animals that I have ever known but this is ONLY if you let them be. If you train them properly you will have the best all-around family dog there is in the world, hands down! That wild puppy will grow into the most amazing adult you will ever know. They will lay down their lives for you w/out a blink of an eye and you will never feel alone or more protected with a Pitbull.
A long cotton training lead (10-12ft) attached to a Pitbull puppy is the best thing that you could ever do. By doing this you can have immediate access to correction and control of a wild Pitbull puppy and they have no choice but to follow you everywhere you go if you simply attach it to yourself. Just put it on them when supervised and let them go about their day.. I still use a lead on my adult when we have company if she won’t settle. As soon as I put it on her she become a completely different calm dog, just like magic!
Pitbull puppies need constant care and supervision so if you don’t have the time or energy I strongly caution against getting a puppy. Adopt an adult one that is already trained, they are amazing, resilient and grateful dogs that love nothing but second chances.. Even an adopted adult will still lay his life down for you and your family and love you like no other with the intelligence and loyalty of a Pitbull, you can never go wrong....

This is making me hopeful! I tried Hills but no improvement after a 30lb bag. My Sharpull has been suffering for two years now. Switch foods so many times! Thanks for sharing 🤞🏾

does not 'take all the allergens out'. Hydrolyzed proteins are broken down to a smaller molecular size so that the body cannot identify the proteins that would normally be identified as allergens. It's basically pre-digested.

Thank you for the video, I used to give Natural Diet for my little dog but seems that she is with some allergies, and we are going to switch to Royal Canin Hydrolyzed. I also don't like the Royal Canin, but let's see I hope her allergies is about food and not about environmental. I hope your dog is doing fine now. ;)

My Bichon has a similar issue. Age 9 now. It all started 2 months ago but considering the ear issues and body itching we thing is a much older problem. For now, we are under treatment with antibiotics, a sort of prednisone and some other things. 5 pills per day plus a special shampoo bath every few days. The skin looks excellent now. It was with a heavy rush, dermatitis, all the belly, the groins, and the back. The bumps are still present but healing. For now, the only option is hydrolized food. We use Hills dry food and can food. My dog was a homemade food lover so is very hard for him to restrict only to this food. But for now, is no other option. The main commercial food he hed in hos life was chicken and beef-based. Maybe in 5-6 months we will start try and error thing. It will be painful. I hope your dog is well.

Thank you for sharing your journey. This is very helpful. I have a rescue dog who just had her gallbladder removed. I have only had her 2 of her 11 years. She has had skin infection after skin infection. Biopsies done during surgery to remove her gallbladder showed that she has inflammatory bowel disease which can make dogs very sensitive to proteins. She was on the Royal Canin hydrolyzed protein but still was getting skin infections. I have her on Royal Canin Whitefish & Potato. Her skin is doing great but she has absolutely no energy so I know something still isn't right and I'm trying to figure something that works without putting her on steroids. I am typing this 6 years after you made this video, so I will try to find other videos you have made as a follow-up.

If I could go back I would have put her on full raw/cooked diet... I had my boy junior on a half raw half cooked diet and he did amazing on it.. he has recently passed away but the last 4 or so years of his life were amazing once I stopped all the dog foods ! Sorry to hear your baby is suffering... It's a learning process and each baby is different so if you can give her as much raw or cooked food as you can if not all of it.... Good luck!!! ❤️

Bless your heart for getting back to me. I am so sorry for your loss. Dogs are such gifts and make up the best part of us. I lose a part of me each time I lose a dog. I have been reading about raw/cooked diets and will definitely consider this. She is complicated because she is a schnauzer and schnauzers do best on an extremely low fat diet which limits what you can feed them even further. Just got prescribed this from my vet. My 1 year old chihuahua started getting really itchy, to the point where his paws were bleeding. They thought it was seasonal allergies but now that its cold, they think its the food. The hydrolyzed protein wet food Royal Canin looks gross! Dont know if my dog will eat it

Hydrolyzed Protein Adult HP Does works but again depends on a dog. It helped my dog instantly Some of you could try Apoquel give one tablet every 24 hours for itching.

Long term Apoquel causes liver counts to go up! Had to take my dog off it because of severe diarrhea and vomiting. And she is now on Royal Canin HP. and off Apoquel.

With pit bulls and all bullies, in my experience do best on the skin support diet by Royal Canin. It works on food and environmental allergies. I hope your girl is doing well!

Hmm I wonder if that's what's wrong w my dog, she doesn't naw on her paws she licks them a lot, and her ears get infected a lot... I never take her to the vet I just have to clean them with vinegar and water every once in a while and we've been feeding her science diet for 2 years

any vet that actually cares for the dog and doesn't want to keep you coming back will tell you what they call a "tell tell sign" of food allergies is recurring ear infections... I would take her in next time she has an ear infection and ask the vet if they think the hypoallergenic diet is the way to go but I bet they say yes.... good luck! (p.s In My Opinion, Science diet is junk food and that is probably the problem) ♥

yeah well I'm not really sure it is an ear infection i just assume, she's got it in one ear always and its like this brownish stuff and its not ear mites I'm sure about that, anyway i just clean it out every couple of weeks, usually when she starts shaking her head, i clean it out and she is fine.. but yeah i was misinformed when i got her on science diet, what about the hypo allergenic, blue buffalo? i am surprised that science diet is crappy its so damn expensive…

***** Blue buffalo does not make a hypoallergenic food... There are only three companies that make hypoallergenic. Royal Canin, Purina and Hills.. it's a food you can only get with a prescription from the vet.. it' hydrolyzed food.. if anyone tells you they have hypoallergenic food and it's not one of the three I just mentioned then they are lying to you. they make a lot of foods that can be considered hypoallergenic because they have healthy or limited ingredience, but they are not actually hypoallergenic.. just limited ingredience.. the real hypoallergenic dog food goes thru a process that eliminates the allergen all together.. good luck.. it sucks.. I'm still praying this will fix my girl!!

Have an 3 year old terrier mix on this food for a year because of itching, oily hair,dry skin,flakes in the hair with pieces of hair that are held together by a piece of flake and smell like popcorn,corn chips oily hair,and weird stinky smell! Now he be taken off of this expensive food!!! Dogs get yeast infections from eating too much food that contains starch and sugar just like humans!! Also yeast live off of sugar from every source natural and process foods!,such as baked sweet potatoes, green peas,milk,cream, cooked pumpkin,red apples, potatoes white,rice brown rice,oats,green peas have protein.Eggs give some dogs allergic reaction of itching as well! To get rid of yeast you have to remove sugar of all possible sources to kill the yeast,that's what keep yeast alive!!! TO KILL YEAST NO SUGAR AT ALL!!!The conclusion is if a dog have been eating dog food that contains an high glycemic load of sugar and starch they will eventually have skin issues of scratching,ear infections and yeast!!! The vet will give antibiotics for it and an anti itch medication but it doesn't work all the time! Medicines just make it worse in having the yeast infection hang around longer!!! Treating a dog naturally for it is Apple Cider vinegar and water rinse at least three times a week.That is 1/2 cup of vinegar to a gallon of water, make sure it is warm so the dog will not get cold from pouring on them.Do not pout it in their face just pour on them just like a rinsing after a bath,from the neck back to their tail!!! Also same mixture can be used for the in side of their ears in wiping them and even a few drops of it inside their ear while they lay on one side left and right to get to eat ear. I read doing this will kill the yeast!!! The diet for dogs is junk and it sad that most dog food hard and can swear it is healthy and it is not!!! That is why more people are going holistic with remedies of herbs,essential oils,apple cider vinegar,(Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar) is the one to use.It is organic and have the "mother" at the bottom.That means the settlement you see looking at the bottom is all pure of the vinegar and apple. The white vinegar you clean not to treat yeast infection!!!

no it did not... she was still having the same issues but the food is worse than I was giving her before!! I took her off...I finally found a food she does not break out in hives with...

Thanks for the info! My boy has very similar allergies and he was good for almost two years and it all started happening again. I think they changed the formula or something... I'm gonna give it a try it's been a guessing game for years I wish there was an easy solution.

Yes, my girl has been on dozens of diff foods and they do change formulas all the time... She was on Orijen dry for a year or so and it was the only thing that kept her from not breaking out but she also has grass allergies and she had a real bad outbreak with them last summer and so I took the advice of the vet and started her on the royal canin hydrolyzed... extremely expensive and did nothing for her. I follow Dr. Becker on youtube and on her website, she is a holistic vet and one of her videos broke down just exactly how bad hydrolyzed aka "allergy" dog food is for the dog so I took her off and put her back on the ORIJEN but now I get the Senior one since she is not very active and she is back to doing great other than the grass allergies the food issues are totally under control.. I just cant give her anything that turns to sugar or carbs with the people food. The Orijen is pretty expensive but it's the closest thing to as natural as possible and it's low glycemic which is a must for dogs that get yeasty and have food allergies and it's free of all the bad shit... good luck w/your baby.. it's a struggle I tell ya... I need to do another updated video for her...
