Lantern type is really versatile since you can shoot groups, 45 degree angle, and any other type of shoots. Nice updated video, Hypop!

The problem is all modifiers used too far away. Which makes it all very similar.

Even if the modifiers were placed closer the results will still be similar. At first glance it could appear the same but with close review there are subtle differences in light quality and even colour casting - we found out that Aputure softboxes have a magenta shift from this test and don't think this has ever been noticed in any other reviews online. The light throw onto the models face is a good reference point and the full body shadow that she casts onto the backdrop.

I think the Spectrum Softbox creates the most flattering light of all. The lantern comes in second but is best placed overhead for optimal results. While the strip box is excellent for edge lighting, it might not be the ideal choice for a key light application. Great work guys.

Wow crazy how much each one changed. To me the parabolic and laterns look the best for what I like to shoot

Hi Rob, thank you for the comparison! I noticed that both of the Aputure softboxes seemed to have a much cooler overall color temperature in the final comparison - do all aputure softboxes give this "whiter" look (in comparison to all the other brands looking relatively "yellower") or did you change the color temperature for those shots (I assume you didn't but it almost looks like you did!) I'm asking because I'm currently using a Godox S120T, however by switching to Aputure I would truly gain a whiter vs yellow light output I would consider doing so!

Hello, please, I want to consult you. I have some lighting suggestions. 1- IVISII G2 Pocket RGB 2-SESENPRO RGB Video Light (SL218RW) Is there a better lighting than them and close in size as well? 1-NEEWER PL60C RGB LED Video Light 2-GVM-896S 50W Is there a lighting? Better than them and close in size and their price does not exceed $300 if they are not available. Do you think that these lightings are the best?

It's interesting how much cooler (in temp) the aputures are.

Absolutely love your content. Could you please recommend a modifier for shooting outdoor sport portraits for teams and individuals? My smallest modifier is a 120cm Godox. I'm afraid the modifier is a bit too big for breezy wind conditions. I was thinking of something closer to 90cm. I'm interested in the Spectrum beauty dish. I shoot with a AD400 Pro

The Spectrum Collapsible Beauty Dish would be perfect for portraits, with the option of the removable velcro grid. For teams, bigger is always better so I'd say stick to the 120cm . Godox have released an umbrella softbox range. Take a look at the Godox UB-130S (with optional diffuser cover) as an equivalent larger option but would be easier to setup and pack away on location than the softbox. Otherwise they make the 85 and 105cm variants of the same umbrella softboxes.

Seems like putting your modifiers that far from model will really diminish their differences.

We maintained the same position of the light and model to ensure a more objective result which you can see at 10:48. At 8:42 we go through a few of the modifiers that are used more traditionally, such as a beauty dish used in butterfly lighting, a stripbox in a perpendicular position and a lantern overhead.

When will manufacturers stop calling none parabolic modifiers parabolic. The shape if wrong and the light position is also wrong.

I'm looking to purchase a strip box, but all the ones I'm finding are a pain to put together compared to most octaboxes. Any suggestions if there are any that can be put together quickly and easily?
@hypop
@hypop 5 ай бұрын
Due to the unique shape of the strip boxes, most require an initial setup with the four rods around the speed ring. The Godox SB-FW-30120 (30x120cm Stripbox) is relatively easy to setup once you get the hang of it.

See the results recap at 10:48 with the close-up and wider shots, noting differences in the tone, contrast, shadow and light fall off.

See the results recap at 10:48. Very subtle differences however when looking closely you can see changes in tone, contrast, shadow and light falloff. In the wider shots, notice how the backdrop is lit differently (noting it's the same colour backdrop used the entire time), despite the model and light maintaining the same position. All photos have no post-production and are straight out of camera.
