James Carter gave us the amazing opportunity to chat with him about his P. Mauriat PMB-300UL Bari Saxophone. Not only did he give us his time to explain why he loves his bari, but he even gave us a performance that puts the horn to the test!
James Carter is an absolute professional and just a really awesome guy!
Thanks James!
Please call us 877-88HYSON and mention this KZfaq video for a special offer.

Those tenor notes pop out. And James can play those tenor and altissimo notes really good. They pop out.

triple tonguing is a separate technique using different syllables that when put into a reed instrument, stops the reed just as much as normal tonguing but much quicker through practiced articulation. The technique is triple tonguing, is easily heard if you're use to using the articulation and hearing how the instrument sounds while using the technique

(Suppose you're talking about 1:20 ) First of all, triple tonguing is simply double tonguing divided into triplets. And half-tonguing (or sub-, dooden- etc. etc.) is not played as in double (or triple-)tonguing. It's played by partially stopping the reed. That's why you can hear the note sustaining through the articulations.
@LowReedExpert1
@LowReedExpert1 11 жыл бұрын
Its triple tonguing, its a technique first developed by Arban for the cornet and other brass instrument to play triplet patterns like he was playing, half-tonguing is a two note pattern as with double tonguing.

Love the sweet high notes, just started playing a Bari and this is inspirational stuff! What mouthpiece and ligature was being used? Good to know what these Baritones are capable of in the right hands, of course you make it look so easy but it isn't, sounds terrific! What neck strap is being used James, all the best.

Anyone else notice his circular breathing?
@wyndhleodumegwu253
@wyndhleodumegwu253 7 жыл бұрын
Steven Cusick : Yes! Circular Breathing was done profusely by the traditional masters, for whom C.B. was a skill used for the purpose of moving through a melody, phrase or passage lyrically and smoothly - not the meaningless holding of a SINGLE NOTE for "postering". Many modern players have understood that, and do avoid the melodic and harmonic emptiness which comes with that SINGLE NOTE affectation. James Carter, and many others, endeavor to add meaning and purpose to such a feat when they do carry out Circular Breathing. Sydney Bechet, clarinet and soprano sax; Harry Carney, baritone sax; King Curtis, Soprano, alto, tenor saxophones... come to mind - when it is a question of meaningful Circular Breathing - in melodic, harmonic and lyrical context. James Carter is the #1 on ALL SAXOPHONES in Organic Real JAZZ; he does the "impossible' - especially on baritone saxophone. For him, Circular Breathing is "child's play". Rahsaan Roland Kirk held a note for 2hrs. 21 sec. in London, England way back in 1974. He was asked to STOP! It was then considered to be a useless "gimmick" coming from a blind multi-instrumentalist - a creative genius for whom sound exploration and creativity were his professional aspirations.
